Have recently found that with a busy life, complex swing changes take real practice for anyone.  Recently went off the rails for a few weeks then took lesson.  This setup is much better - on Trackman added 20-40 yards per irons and hit much straighter.  However had two golf outings on difficult courses scheduled and went right back to old swing on back nine.  Still can't believe myself.  Either I get better at complex motion changes or start playing pickleball.

Given winter coming if mats really screwed up your game we are all in trouble.  As others have stated mats will give you and advantage on fat shots as club will bounce a little.  Our local course has mats with brushes for hitting that in theory make it a little more realistic.  With mats you can still work on your swing which is better than doing nothing and off season with mats is great for learning to hit ball first on iron shots.

Practicing see many different methods, was taught to break wrist but switched 2 years ago to solid wrist as fewer moving parts, question what do you think is better and why?

Got into it a few weeks ago, watched a few videos on youtube, then worked on reading on practice green with feet.  Amazing difference.  Not sure if it is just more focus, but really works

I would suggest Outdoor Research, more of a hiking and skiing brand but great.  Also in Waffle House comment above be very careful washing,  You need to use special detergent with any rain system or you will damage the waterproof layer.  from then on you will need to spray Scotchguard.

Spikeless are so convenient and don't have many slipping issues, given the importance of your connection to the ground in golf swing suggest trying on shoes before buying even if then buying online.  Btw, same with ski boots

This looks like fun.  Given a recent snow storm, that may limit real golf for a few days, will baseline in back yard and then Superspeed.

Was on my way to beach and stopped to play golf 4 years ago. Crazy weather dropped temp to 32 degrees at tee time and was wearing shorts.   So bought lined guide pants from Eddie Bauer, they are water proof and warm.  Used twice since. Also have $17.99 Costco pants that are wind and water resistant, they are cheap and my go to for cold weather golf.  Underneath my top wear Under Armor cold gear .  Most useful layer in my golf bag is a $30, on sale, well cut fleece top.  This has been great in early morning rounds and near sundown.

Have had terrible rounds this year with snow limiting practice time, until today with a 78 from tips.  Read something that I will share on how to break 80.  Keys to focus are: Driver - put into play rather than focus on length;  Putter - remove 3 puts, practice 6 ft and less puts; Wedge - chip so you have up and down chances regularly.
    Good luck on the baby.

It is time to make the tour better for fans, given the LIV shake out, and playing a "Championship" on the same, not so great course (although does a lot for charity) every year is just boring.

higherplane got a reaction from artful_golfer in How to get rid of self-talk during the swing
Just learned to go with "feels" rather than "self talk" and also believe in Thought box/swing box.  As a feel example, If I feel my weight shift to back foot in practice swing will be able to repeat weight shift in actual swing.  In putting work on speed with feels.   Talking too myself just didn't work for me.

This is a personal observation from this week.  Bought Garmin R10 launch monitor, setup in yard with net etc.  Very good for videotaping and a set of stats. However this week realized that the game of golf is hitting to targets not a net.  So not a full replacement for practice with focus on real target.   And yes all practice shot and real golf shot  should be with focus on target.  Also at times chipping with spin have gotten so focused on technique that ended up with poor alignment.

Have a minor foot condition that will take years to heal properly, walk golf courses using Superfeet inserts in spike less golf shoes.  Key is to raise your heel up.  They are at REI and also can be ordered online.

Watched your video, tough to see lower body vs upper body.  Looks like they move fully together and head moves with them.  if you can separate bottom and top a little with trained professional golf coach you will gain distance and hit straighter.  good luck

Did sort of have an ah ha moment when I had taken multiple lessons and then practiced for about 6 months when swing got much better and gained distance.  This was many years ago and got me hooked on the game.  In order to get better, believe you need to focus on where you are truly gaining strokes in a round.  Putting is absolute key as can go from 3 putts to more consistent 1 putt from say 4-7 feet, had round this morning where 3 putted tice. Next place to look is driving,  how many times a round do you hit out of bounds or into hazards?  These strokes really add up.  A consistent, long, and in fairway or short rough drive might be the hardest shot in golf.  Then there are others...
To get better swing take lessons that give you videos to see where you need to change, to putt better practice with drills on carpet in house and at course.
