  1. Going to be a great golf weekend. Playing Sunday and Monday.
  2. you want to reduce launch and reduce spin? It's possible switching shafts can help. C Taper is a possibility. But I'd be looking at strengthening the lofts.
  3. Congrats! Got this one book marked. Looking forward to hearing about these irons.
  4. When you create your line, really focus on the last few feet or so of the putt when the ball is slowing down and any break is at is maximum. What does that line look like? Where is the ball entering the cup from? We don't always aim at the front center lip. Now how hard do you have to hit to get it on, or outside that line? It's fine to pick a spot in front of you to start your putt, but before you hit you need to be looking at the last couple feet of the putt. You want to find that break line where the ball starts dying off and make sure your putt is hit hard enough to stay outside or ideally on the breakline. Once it is inside you have no chance to make the putt. 0 chance. It must stay outside, so you must hit it with enough pace to do so. Recognizing the hole is 20 feet away and picking a nearby start point is not enough because the putt might have 25 feet of movement, and with your line you may be putting more into the hill, making it play 30 feet. So find the breakpoint, the slowdown point. Its the star in this picture and hit the putt with enough speed to ride that line. Any miss on the high side is tolerable.
  5. Sounds like it needed a 17 sided internal structure. Sorry about the break. Seemed like a possible gamer with those dispersion numbers. I used to work for Panasonic as a validation engineer, during the development of the cf-29 tough book line, typically marketed for rugged use like law enforcement / construction / utilities. We would put the systems through scripted tests like dropping them from certain heights, hot/cold temps, pouring liquids on them, and so forth. There was a famous advert at the time of an elephant standing on one. Anyway, we quickly developed an exploratory test called "give it to children," because, in its early development, while you could slam it around the office all week and run it over with your car, they would routinely fail when your child did something you would never think of like pour melted chapstik all over it. Kids man. Gotta love em.
  6. I see no problem with it as long as your are making a good faith effort to shoot your best score. In this case you believe going without the woods will help you do that. I've gone 1 round not hitting driver because I was a mess with it in warmups and literally could not keep it in a 50 yard window. I even put it in the car before the round so I wouldnt be tempted and hit 3 wood and driving iron all day and actually posted a very typical score. However, dont expect everyone to see things your way. I could see you getting called out on it. I would probably put the clubs in the bag as to not draw attention.
  7. Been practicing short game at least 3 times a week for 40 minutes. Have a course right around the corner from my work and have been spending my lunch hour there. Chipping and putting. Chipping and putting. I want both of these to be the strengths in my game.
  8. stock shaft was a lighter weight matrix radix. 53 grams in R flex and 55 grams in S flex.
  9. I've been using a free app on the phone that basically gives yardage to the middle of the green. That would normally be sufficient for me, especially with some other landmarks around. However, I recently won a gift card to PGA Superstore, and considering I just refreshed all of my clubs, I couldn't think of anything to buy except for a rangefinder. I must say that I quite enjoy having it. I didn't realize how useful it would from the teebox. Knowing the distance to carry fairway bunkers, or the distance to a tree to try to cut the corner on a dogleg. Even used it on people a few times to see if it was safe to hit. On par 3s, the slope feature is particularly useful, especially since I play some courses that have dramatic elevation changes and your not sure if its a 6 iron or an 8 iron hole. And as mentioned, its great to have on the range. My home course has a nice driving range, but the yards are all measured from the sidewalk near the hitting area, and of course they move the hitting area up and down a good 50 yards or so to keep the grass fresh. So the flag marked at 150 could easily be 100. Knowing exactly what distances the flags are really lets me dial in my distances. Especially since I just got new clubs. I dont think its a must have, but it is a nice luxury item.
  10. @GolfSpy MPR Can I please have the Broke 80 badge? Thank you.
  11. feet close together, shortened swing, choke up on the club. Only thought is just make good contact.
  12. Obviously different situation in Arizona, but the courses never closed. Some courses instituted some really good rules, like doubling the time between tee times, so that the courses wouldn't be stacked up. One golfer per cart, unless you came as a group and are okay with sharing. No water on the course, no cart service, no bunker rags. Basically nothing to touch. And obviously play with the flags in, with some sort of insert to prevent from reaching in touching the cup. I've played a dozen times since the outbreak and its always felt safer than the grocery store. Again, much lower rate down here than in NJ so take that for what its worth.
  13. Yes. I have a buddy from back in Oregon that has a place in Maricopa and I met him there to play it. That places looks like Australia. Was expecting to see kangaroos out there. And those greens gave it to me. I had such a hard time getting shots to hold. Kicked my you know what, but it was a blast to play. Very fun setup. Some tee shots that really make you think about club selection and shot shape. And the first and only time I advanced the ball 20 yards but still took 2 shots to get out of a bunker. HAHA. Was great. I would definitely go back.
  14. Alot of courses in my area include the cart in the rate, and its almost socially unacceptable to walk. This is in the Phoenix area and there are alot of desert courses with some elevations and alot of neighborhood courses that can have some considerable distance between holes. Not to mention the heat. I do prefer to walk though. I feel like you get the lay of the land walking up to the green from your approach shot. Sometimes from the cart you are missing that analysis from 30-10 yards out where you can really see the general slope of the green and pinpoint the low spots. Makes it quicker to get a second or third angle on your putt, whereas with the cart it is easy to run up to your ball and just look at the putt from behind the ball.
  15. ive had two sets of cobra irons over the last few years. And was very tempted to tap into their woods with the F9 series. those were very good and didnt exactly come out of nowhere with the success of the F8 and previous gens. Fantastic company and usually a touch cheaper than the big boys.
  16. I've battled hybrids for my entire golf career. My problem was routine hooks that would seemingly happen even on a good swing. Unfortunately, I wasn't much better with fairway woods and lacked the quality ball striking to consistently flight long irons. And since I found the hybrids so versatile I continued to push forward with them. Cleveland Mashie, Cobra Baffler, TEE XCG, RBZ, Adams A12, X2hot, M5 and a few others. I kept hoping to find the holy grail. For me, I've found it. Start with something that has a somewhat neutral face. Second, the hybrid is too light. So many of these companies have light stock shafts in the 60-70 gram range. Go with something at least 85 grams. Next, the hybrid is too long. Cut it to an iron length. My 4 iron is 38.5 inches. The 3 hybrid should be 39 inches. 1/2 inch difference just like your irons. This promotoes a more downward strike on the ball and you will find the center of the face more with more control. The stock offering is 40 inches on my 3 hybrid. Chop it down 1 inch. The added benefit is that the lie angle will be flatter. The stock hybrid is too upright, so that kill 2 birds. Finally, you may need to add some weight to the head to maintain swing weight. I'm using a Callaway 16 apex, which normally has a 6 gram weight in the head. I replaced it with a 12 gram weight. Now we are at D3 just like my irons. Now we have something that swings just like a 3 Iron, but obviously with a hotter face and deeper DOG.
  17. Updating with pics of my new putter that just won its way into the bag. Love this Evnroll ER3.
  18. Work on putting and try to eliminate 3 putts. That's my biggest weakness right now. I'm having 3-5 a round right now. Just getting that down to 1 would be huge and help keep me under 80 more often.
  19. I dont think there is any competition on this one. There is only one acceptable answer.
  20. Could never not use a 14 way bag. I need a separate slot for each club, so it has a nice comfy home. And I feel like there is less bag chatter. And a oversize putter well is necessary.
  21. What source as you using for you MOI ratings? I've just done a similar experiment with Cobra S3s and Srixon 785s. I was using the Maltby Playability Factor in my analysis, and the MOI ratings listed on that page, which are more in the 10-14 range rather than the 2100-3400 numbers you are using. Must be some factor there. Would be curious how your source rates the S3s compared to the JPX EZ irons.
  22. I play the Z Star XV and Snell MTB-X. I find the Z Stars to be very durable and to play very well in the wind. I have a hard time paying more than 3 dollars a ball so obviously at retail pricing the Snell is fantastic. But you can usually load up on Z Stars when then are on sale.
  23. Thats got to make for a good job advert on craiglist.
  24. My worst drives are typically when I tee the ball higher and place it more forward in my stance. Almost trying to force a more positive angle of attack and to get the ball higher. My normal drive is a mid height bullet that is the slightest of fades if there is any movement and runs out a fair amount. But on holes where there is a longer forced carry or an elevated tee box or some strong wind blowing in my favor, I feel compelled to try to hit the ball higher. and thats usually ends up in a big slice for me.
  25. Since I have never had a hole in one, I have to go that route. I could see if you had a few already then the albatross would be tempting.
