  1. That is generally true, but there are lighter weight jumbo grips. JumboMax UltraLites are 35-50 grams depending on size, which is lighter or on par with a standard grip.
  2. Number 10 at Las Colinas in AZ. Long Par 4. I usually try to drive this at the trees on the right, but I hit a weak push that never got much elevation and run out a bit into the left rough. Really unfortunate because the hole plays long and there a ridge at about 250-260 where if your ball goes over it will run down the hill some. Not uncommon for me to hit 280-290 drives here. You want to be close for a controlled approach because this green has an elevated upper tier, and if you are on it putting down the hill there is no way to stop your ball. Its 3 putt city. Of course the pin is front center, so I'm trying to underclub a hair to not go long, and I just absolutely flush an 8 iron. Its right at the pin. I mean right at it like it going to land in the hole. Lands on the green and takes a couple of bounces. Flier. No good. The ball keeps rolling to the peak of the tier. Im yelling at it, no no no no no no!! The other people in my group are so confused because I just drilled this shot to 15 feet. But I've had that nightmare putt before and didnt want it again. Your ball is going to run 8 feet past down the hill unless you hit it the cup. The ball stops for a few seconds. I'm using a bright @Yellow Ball so everyone can see it sitting there on the peak, and then it moves. Wait, did it? Am I dehydrated? Drunk? I thought it wiggled. And then again. WTF. And then for sure its rolling back in slow motion. We all start screaming. Come back! Back! Yes! Go go go go go go!. It picks up some steam and rolls right by the hole and luckily stop about 3 feet short of it. Tap in bird. But the excitement from the group was the fun part.
  3. Feel like broke 75 or even 72 would be a worthwhile badge. Afraid I'm never going to break 70.
  4. I've found MGS to be a very friendly, open, and knowledgeable forum. Honestly, sometimes your point is better made when people disagree and challenge it, more facts are brought into the discussion, people research topics and bring in resources and there's some resolution. Yes, someone was right. Yes, someone was wrong. But the people in error and the people just reading along probably learned something. Sometimes that's more impactful then readers nodding their head and skipping to the next thread. I'm not advocating fights or attacking posts, but discourse is not a bad thing, and it doesn't need to be personal. Its an internet forum. Nobody knows you, your golf experience, your club building experience, and so your word, just like mine or anybody else's, regardless of post count, is not absolute and undisputable. At the end of the day, whats the point of being right on a MGS forum in the first place? Theres no bonus points for being right. Theres no credibility scale that jumps up. We dont have user ratings. The whole point of being right is to help others realize fact from fiction and boost their own knowledge base. So lets focus on that and continue to learn and grow together.
  5. Tried and true here. As long as length is not changed or either shafts having some odd counterbalancing. Personally a big fan of heavier shafts. The golf motion is so much easier when there is weight or resistance.
  6. Still cheaper then needing a new wife and house.
  7. You guys are crazy. I'm 80 pounds overweight, and walk 36 holes in the Arizona heat at the peak of summer after binge drinking the night before, pounding a bloody mary on the first teebox, getting a hot dog and a payday at the turn, and hydrating with Coors Lite.
  8. I actually prefer a little noise. The worst is when people are talking and then realize you are swinging and then shut up, and now your unconscious mind goes to the lack of noise. Either be quiet, or talk, but not both.
  9. Usually logo down. I'd make a small exception if you the shaft fits your color theme. Like Srixon irons with red fill paint, modus shafts, and then red grips like cp2 or something.
  10. I've still got a Cobra F6 fairway wood in the bag and Cobra F7 hybrid in the bag, and thats after spending hundreds to try to replace them. Nothing wrong with some older clubs when they flat out work.
  11. Right now: Ping, Cleveland, Cobra, Callaway, Srixon, Taylormade
  12. I clicked on here fully anticipating a hard roast, but thats a pretty nice bag setup there. Once you sell off your grandpas irons and get your own, you'll be all set.
  13. Maybe in black the alignment aid is not such a deterrent?
  14. Yes! Honestly I'm looking over ebay every day for a good deal on a yes putter. If it aint broke, dont fix it.
  15. Yeah, they are funny looking, and just an odd feeling standing over the ball. But boy are they easy to hit straight. I end up losing too much distance, for the guy just trying to advance to ball forward and getting something they can make contact, elevate the ball, and get going, these are absolutely money. Especially in the 4/5 hybrid area.
  16. Head looks great, nothing to worry about.
  17. Anybody pick one of these up? Was mulling getting for a while and just decided to go for it. I'm probably not the ideal use case for the bag. I'm not an avid walker or minimalist golfer. But wanted a range bag, something to keep in the car most of the time. I occasionally ride bikes to the driving range with the kids, and carrying 6 clubs on a bike is awkward. Will probably take it to an executive course or for 9 holes early on Sunday morning. We'll see. I'll let you know what I think in a few weeks.
  18. I was going to post this on the 2nd instead of the first because I had a round of golf scheduled on Sunday and wanted to include that in the post, but then life happened. SW: 314 CW: Big drop coming for the next weight in on the 15th. So Sunday was the first round of golf I have played since the beginning of July and I wasnt sure what to expect. Got off to a rough start on a local course that I am very familiar with and usually score well on. Shot a 43 on the front. 7 bogeys and 2 pars. Didnt make any massive mistakes but a couple of three putts, a bad drive here or there. Pulled the wrong club a few times as I am not locked in on distances. And really had to adapt as my stock fade was doing nothing by drawing over and over again. But I really recovered on the back 9, started playing the draw, and shot 36 (par 35), for a 79 on a par 71 course. Quite happy with that. I will say, I hit 2 300+ yard drives, which is a definite rarity for me. Wasnt hitting irons crisp enough to really know, but I just feel more speed in the swing. Hear more of a woosh with the driver. Cant wait to confirm on a monitor.
  19. SW: 314 CW: 285.5 Down almost 30 pounds. Feels really weird not to have hit a golf ball in the last month. I work full time, have 3 kids with the youngest at 3 months, so the schedule is busy. And I've been putting alot of energy into working out. I recently picked up an Oculus set, which has been pretty great for sneaking in work outs on the weekends or at night. The boxing game in particular is super taxing. I've got some big golf events couple up, so in October I am going to look to bring golf back into the equation. I've got a big work golf tournament in November and I am making a trip to play Pebble, Spyglass, and Pasatiempo in December. So starting next month, I'll aim to lift weight M/W/F and hit the driving range on T/Th. Hopefully my speed training and muscle gains wont mess up my game too much. I feel like some of the training I have been doing with weights or resistance bands to mimick the golf swing have really helped my understanding of the position of the body during the swing. You can't really make an OTT swing motion on a pulley with 45 pounds on it.
  20. Down to 292.1 this morning. Was at 290 last Friday, but the weekend did me in. That's okay. Still making progress. Still lifting 5x a week and noticing more muscle on my body. I've got loads more muscular endurance where at first I could hardly lift for more than 30 minutes, but thats feeling like a warm up now. Continuing speed training and making golf related moves with resistance bands. Nearly down another belt size. Some fitbit tracking from the latest email. Hitting those step goals and putting the miles on.
