  1. Nice to see you guys are getting after it! I did a quick epsom salt test for COG, and all of the balls were well balanced. I marked the high points out of the water and gave them all a spin 3 times, and never did the same point return, so that's speaks to the quality of the core albeit in a small sample size. Like Tom, I noticed that all but 1 3 ball and 1 4 ball had at least one paint bubble on them. Maybe some slight issues with the mold or painting process, but not going to read too much into it considering these are not production quality retail balls yet. First outing was to the putting green. I must say that I did squeeze each ball in my fingers and I feel like the 3 compresses easier. At least the outer mantle is softer in my mind. I was hoping to verify on the green, but I must say they feel the same to me. Perhaps its my Evnroll putter that sort of feels dead. I love it, but its not the best feel putter. Might be a good thing as I'm not picky yet. Will back up and chip and pitch this weekend and get more feedback where it really counts for me.
  2. Nice. I plan on doing the same test.... Once the balls show up. I was hoping with a dozen that we might detect more quality issues in one ball than the other, but 3 is way too small of a sample size. Maybe if more testers did this we might learn something? Hard to say.
  3. We are starting to get shipping notifications today! Should be receiving them next week. I forgot Titleist HQs is in the NE and so far from me.
  4. Lots of people have passed on the fairway wood and opted for a lower lofted hybrid. Unless you are playing insanely long courses, I wouldnt think you'd hit a 3 wood very often with your distances. If you are not set on Titleist there are quite a few manufactures that make 16 or 17 degree hybrids. Some with adjustability that you can turn even lower.
  5. first off, jealous. second, we need more pictures of the pm grind. What is the Big Pon grind you speak of? I've gone to the Hi Toe for the LW because I wasnt a huge fan of the grind and bounce on the PM. What does Gerrit have cooking?
  6. we are in different worlds. Almost every shaft I have ever had has been tip trimmed and I've been constantly battling how to add weight to the driver head, going so far as to add yarn inside the head, lead tape, buying aftermarket weights, baking the head in the oven to move hotmelt, etc. Should have bought a hotmelt kit years ago.
  7. When you toy with the adapter, you are never truly changing the loft of the club. The face is fixed, the driver loft is what it is. When you add loft on the adapter, what you are really doing is closing the face. Now the face appears closed, so you open it so it looks neutral and now you had added loft. When you lower the loft on the adapter the club becomes open. You will grip it so it looks neutral so you have delofted the club. This is how it works for all companies. Cobra is somewhat unique in that they have a draw setting lower than the stamped loft. This should be impossible as lowering the loft opens the face. A higher loft than stamped makes sense, but not lower. So how do they do it? By not changing the loft at all. The draw setting just makes the club 1 upright.
  8. This is incorrect. Delofting the driver will open the face. Beyond that @tdc1 , I wouldnt be afraid of opening the face. Seems odd with the right miss, but for some people knowing its open forces you to return it square or closed. And for a draw, closed to the path, but open to the target is what you want.
  9. Ball A is obviously the early favorite. . My theory is that there is a call to market another one of Titleist's tour balls like the left dash. Maybe left dot or star. And Titleist is unsure or even doubtful that amateurs can tell the difference between that ball and a regular prov1. Of course you want to tee both up and see which goes farther with the driver, but my focus is definitely around the greens. To a fault, I tend to fly the ball to the hole too much and utilize spin to get the ball to check. Anything that rolls out too much is immediately detested. Then I like to hit some approach shots from 5 iron - 200, 7 iron - 170, 9 iron 140 and make sure I can get the ball to spin and hold like I want it to.
  10. Nice find. Who knows how much those are adjusted from retail though?
  11. I doubt the T200 will be weaker lofted. The combo set to target is T100-S and T200.
  12. These look really nice. More like the old AP2s that were all time classics.
  13. Didnt get the best pics, but the fam got me a BBQ prep tub for seasoning and cutting on. And an 8 pack of seasonings from Meat Church. Smart to get me something that would ultimately benefit them. ha. Here's a whole chicken before going in the pit.
  14. You are looking in the right spot. Not all cobra drivers are given serial numbers for some reason, so that by itself doesn't mean anything. But would have been nice to verify its authenticity with cobra. The lack of infinity on the face, white lines on the face, coupled with no SN worries me l. I am not an expert on that line of drivers, but it definitely looks different than every photo I can find, whether it be at cobragolf.com, MGS or other reviews sites, and also different than BNIP heads on ebay. You either have an extremely odd version, a specialty version made for the kit that there is no documentation for on the web, or a counterfeit, which seems odd considering where you sourced it from.
  15. The thing is, you are not likely to be able to produce the club head speed of John Rahm. You are also not likely to be able to produce the club head speed in the same manner that Lexi Thompson does. The goal may be to produce the club head speed of Lexi with your best Rahm like swing. Not seeing alot of guys on the range that can get in these positions, and even if they could I doubt it would help their game.
  16. Driver. No hesitation. For some reason, I am really sensitive to changes in the driver. When friends get new clubs, I have no problems hitting a few shots on the range and striping some iron shots. I routinely switch around putters for fun. I have a favorite but have no statistical data that says I putt any better with it. I've got 2 different 60 degree lob wedges I use. One is 6 bounce and the other is 12 and I'm not sure which one I like better. I've got 2 different gap wedges I'll switch out because I am not sure if I like the set wedge or not. And I have another wedge set where sometimes I play 56/60 and other times 54/58 just to test things out. I don't think it really matters. But driver. Give me your new shiny club and I will top it, hit wild hooks, low cuts, high slice and pretty much hit every spot on the face except the middle. Give me a driver that I've never hit before on a tee box with pressure and I will consider just hitting the face and advancing the ball more than 150 yards an accomplishment.
  17. I frequently play as a single. Going out to Dinosaur Mountain tomorrow morning to get paired up with 2 or 3 random people, but I've never had any problems. It usually nice because if you jive with the group you can choose to be more outgoing or talkative. If not, then its easy to just stay within yourself and focus on your game. With friends there more of an expected social environment which may or may aid in good golf. I quite enjoy that freedom.
  18. 3 wood is the one club were i've heard so many people say, "I wish I had my old club back." Not saying that will be the case for you. But the 3 wood is so personal. It's really hard to get right. I'd stick with a good one and use the money on wedges, balls, shirts, etc. But thats just me. If you were going to fit yourself, I'd take note of what you like about your 3 wood. The loft and the shaft flex/weight/profile. Face height. Is it mostly used off the tee or off the deck? Assuming the store has a launch monitor, get on there with a few different options and see what you are able to keep on line the best.
  19. Do you have an unwrapped picture? Is there a serial number above the screw than connects the head and shaft adapter? I'm concerned about the white horizontal lines as well. Should be black.
  20. Interesting product. Not Cobras first oversized hybrid, but looks to be aimed at more of the players market. 85g stock shaft. Super low lofts available. Weight forward to hit low bullets. Maybe picks up on some of the Super Hybrid action.
  21. Getting off to an early 368th place. Not too bad.
  22. Nobody else likes losing to a cheater. Some people are inherently passive or want to be polite or want to seem like $5 is not a big deal. And I agree in many ways. No need to go nuclear here, but your playing partners would probably be relieved if someone else took on the burden of calling out Joe. For me, I'm not dancing around the bush. Joe cheats because he can. He will continue to do so until he is called out on it. Next time you keep his score and ask for his number on every green in a way that he understands he is being watched and monitored in a way that is different from anyone else in the group. I'd also be putting some pressure on him by being close by when he is looking for his ball or hitting from a bad lie or angle. Any opportunity to cheat, there are eyes on him. When he is cheating, you call out the discrepancy. "Joe, I have you down for a 6. You did such and such and such and thats a 6." If he wants to debate that and get unruly and write down a 5 for himself, whatever. Dont engage in any quarrel about it. There's no fight to be had about it. You just presented your fact, and thats your lone contribution. But you publicly called him out. The other group members heard it. And if it happens again, they will sense a pattern with Joe. In the clubhouse, I'd stay away from it if you are not involved in the winnings. You presented your evidence on the course. And now there are witnesses, that may feel the need to start their own debate in the clubhouse, especially if they lost by a stroke to Joe. But thats between winning parties. Again, not looking to cause a big fight, but definitely ready to call him out. And if it happens to be you and Joe in contention, I'd press him some. "I shot a 76 and I had you down for a 78, lets find the discrepencies. Yes, you had an 6 on that hole. I told you that on the green Remember? You had a penalty that you ignored in your score."
