  1. So that friend of mine got a new MotoCaddy M7 a couple of weeks ago and gave me his old Bat Caddy. It's beat up, but I'm an electric push(less) cart convert!
  2. My doctor uses one of those to test my knee reflexes.
  3. Looks like the Fila Latitude (#10) reduced issues with toe strikes...
  4. First: I'm not a big fan of Callaway gear, in fact I've got a sort of brand antipathy when it comes to their stuff. I don't generally dig the aesthetics (what the hell is all over that driver face, a mid 90s 'tribal' tattoo?), their marketing spiels induce unconstrained eye rolling, and the Mavrik felt like a broken piece of plastic when I tried it last year. Second: I've tested this line, and the Epic Speed with an MMT shaft was a fantastic club for me. I'm going back to my fitter for a little more shaft testing and build tuning later this week. I guess I'll just have to get over myself and my anti-Callaway preciousness.
  5. @McGolf One of my favorite channels! Thanks for the great tutorials!
  6. Cool trick, I'll definitely keep it in mind. I've only used a fine bit to drill into the weight and pull it out. That's a bit of a finesse operation, tho.
  7. Huh. Not sure this thread was an invitation for a right-wing, anti-media screed. Or did miss something?
  8. My friend was telling me about some GolfTec analysis and lesson packages the other day. So something like that....but in a nice warm(er) climate.
  9. @tchat07 so yeah, I sometimes wear the mittens over my gloves. Usually only the first couple of holes as I walk mostly, and tend to warm up after 15-20 minutes. There is a little more friction on the leather palms of the StaSof gloves as compared to my own palms [...insert joke here...], but it's not too much of a struggle.
  10. I second @Dr Strangelove. I got a pair of FJ StaSof (where are the final consonants?) gloves a couple of weeks ago. They work at least down to about 35* if I'm walking. Grip-wise, they're far superior to the all fleece winter glove FJ has had in previous seasons. And if it gets really cold, there's always these babies in between shots:
  11. @Kenny B and @Shankster , why not make them both proud with this number?
  12. Thus far it's been a toss up between the FJ DryJoy Tour and Adidas 360 Tour Boost. I walk mostly, and the Adidas are the most comfortable shoes underfoot, but kinda ugly too, at least to my eye. The DJTs are not as cushy, but the stability and aesthetics are better. I had a pair of FJ Icon MyJoys for a little while this fall (see below). They were pretty comfortable underfoot, but the shoe proved too wide in the end, and I returned them. However--and I realize beauty is in the eye of the beholder--they looked boss indeed:
  13. From what I've heard via FJ marketing emails and a chat with customer services, looks like the Premiere series will be launching soon. Billy Horschel has been wearing the one with the white vamp and blue cap toe recently. Those look soooooper sweet to me, especially if/when the MyJoys option rolls out. The Tour X is a different kettle of fish, looks like a great shoe, just not to my tastes aesthetically.
  14. In my view, even so-called "meaningless" events matter to someone. Playing for quarters with friends matters, otherwise there'd be no quarter on the line. Playing a weekly no-account men's league in the middle of Nowheresville matters to everyone making an honest effort. Fudging your handicap index matters, because like all the other examples (the Masters or the Open included, just like my men's league) they are objective structures of social relations, and as social beings, connections with others matter to us. Cheaters spoil that social relation, no matter the stage or premium for performance upon it.
  15. Update on the DIY puller: eventually the carpenter's vise tore out of the wood at the end of the bench. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Golf Works puller, only to learn a component was on back order. I found this thing on ebay instead (see attached photo), and it's the bee's knees.
  16. I've never played the Steel Fiber, but I was fitted into a set of JPX 919 Forged w/ Recoil ESX 460 F3 a little more than a year ago. I'd previously switched to graphite iron shafts (Paderson Kinetixx TS-I R) because of some elbow and wrist issues. The ESX 460 are lighter, torque-ier (sp?) and therefore less stable than the TS-I I played previously. I'm currently switching out the ESX for another set of TS-I, also R flex. I don't like the feel of a board, and am on the R/S flex cusp, swing speed-wise, but Paderson shafts tend to play a little stiffer in terms of flex and torque. I've recently put a Paderson Ballistic 80 in my Titleist U510 3 iron, replacing the stock Tensei AV 70HY, which I also found too unstable. When I put a good swing on that thing now, the ball launch and flight is something to behold. I'm not trying to hijack the SF vs Recoil comparison, but I would suggest anyone who is interested in trying graphite iron shafts take a look at Paderson as well (good selection on Golf Works). Having previously worked for a graphite shaft manufacturer (crew oars, not golf clubs), I do think the filament winding/vacuum cure tech combo Paderson uses is superior to prepreg sheet layup/tape and bake, and is unique as far as I know for golf shaft manufacturers.
  17. Altruism for the win. I guess you've still got your barrel o' shafts, but maybe this process has tamed the tinkering impulse? As an aside, I played at the West Seattle Golf Course with my brother a few winters ago: all carry/no roll is an understatement this time of year! In any case, hope the TSi testing continues to go well for you. Thanks for your unvarnished reports!
  18. I've been following this thread with quite some interest (I have my own driver fitting scheduled for Monday upcoming). Thanks to all the testers and their feedback, I can't wait to try the TSi! I am wondering, though, @dlow206 what happened to your SIM/Motore X combo? I see lots of refs to the SIM/Ventus Red as your gamer going in to the TSi test, but not about the Motore (sorry if I missed it, I have read all 29 pages and searched). Knowing you're a tinkerer (so maybe it's irresponsible for me to even suggest it), if I was in your shoes I would have a hard time not pulling the TM adapter off the Motore and replacing it with a Titleist one. You know, just to see... I guess that's against the test rules, but maybe a posttest test in the offing?
  19. @Flip4000 for the first pair, about two months. The second was less than that. I walk about 3-4 rounds per week, but still, it's not like we're talking about a kleenex or a take out coffee cup.
  20. Well, I'm sorry to say they did not last longer (see below). It seemed like DJ was sporting a pair this weekend at the Traveler's, but they were unblemished to the degree I wonder if he wears them more than once. Certainly not long enough for the foam to completely break down. I went with the CodeChaos this time. They've lasted three weeks, so here's hoping.
  21. @berkeleybob thanks! It came to me from my wife's grandparents' retirement house in Tenants Harbor, Maine by way of my father in law. It's old, but my wife doesn't know if it originally belonged to her grandparents, or if it came with the house when they bought it. In either case, they got that house in the late 1960s or early 1970s, but by the appearance and construction, the bench seems to date quite a bit before that. As I'm typing, my wife is telling me to add that one of the Bean family (of L.L. Bean fame) lives there now. That's all I can say about the provenance of the bench, but I do enjoy working on it!
  22. @cnosil for sure, it's a low-volume set up. Having used it a few times, on iron heads and a driver adapter, I'd say it's a good and relatively inexpensive option for the hobbyist. Certainly it's less expensive than a shop shaft extractor tool, and cheaper than a ruined shaft too. Speaking of, maybe I should factor the shafts I've ruined attempting other methods over the years...that would push the total cost up a bit
  23. I've been trying to figure out a cheapish graphite shaft pulling setup for a while. I came across some videos on Youtube (here and here) by a guy who built one from a couple of vises. He's from the UK, so he says it cost less than &20. I picked up the vises for about $20 a pop at the hardware store. I cut out the aluminum cuff myself, but I'm going to get one from Golfworks here shortly, and had the torch and shaft vise collar already. It's a pretty simple design, and it works a charm, so I thought I'd share it in case anyone is interesting in making one themselves.
