  1. This is a great topic. I take the same view of buying a car as I do buying clubs. I always buy certified pre-owned. It doesn’t make much sense to pay full price for brand new sticks especially if you’ve been fitted at some point and know your specs. I think for me this strategy has worked all the way through my bag. I am also a big re-seller/trade in guy as well to offset costs.
  2. Thanks that helps although I don’t see how to add to my original post but I’ll figure it out lol
  3. Really love your sugar ball review and the way it’s chronological. I am finding using the forum a bit confusing and how to keep multiple posts or replies as we progress and add how it all stays connected as your review looks. Any advice is welcome
  4. I can remember back in the 90’s going to Myrtle Beach and finally splurging at Caledonia and Glen Dornoch both of which were I believe $120 in April which is high season. Funny thing is these aren’t that much more than that considering it’s been 20+ years.
  5. UPS just arrived! Missed the chance to use these for my round this morning but I will be in the simulator this week looking at the performance against my regular ProV1x as well as the Chrome Soft X ls and the new Mizuno RB TourX. Should be interesting as I was prepared to buy a box of each of these as soon as the weather broke. As an introduction I am 55 years old and playing golf for 30 years I am currently playing to an 8 handicap but have been much better than this within the past 3 years leading to a lot of frustration. The opportunity to test these Callaway balls couldn’t have come at a better time, not only because I have wanted to be a tester for years but this also now gives me an opportunity to look at all of these ball attributes in earnest and finally pick and stick to one ball . Because I don’t know about all of you but when my game starts to struggle I start changing everything. I live in NJ and the weather since receiving the balls has not been good so off to the Golf Cave in Eatontown NJ I went this weekend After warming up I went with driver with the 2 Callaway test, Pro V1x and Mizuno RB Tour x balls head to head TCX TC ProV1x Mizuno RB Tourx After a couple of weekends of being rained and frozen out I was finally able to get out on the course with these and they did not disappoint. Of course I am not hitting the ball exactly the same each time but I like the slightly lower flight of the tour ball. I do have to say the cover did seem to get pretty beat up but the course conditions were also not ideal so I would have to wait for warmer drier and firmer conditions to really make a call on cover durability. I will say I am sold. My ball speed numbers in the simulator on the tour modeltold the story for me which led to some extra yards, I went out and bought a box of the gold tour ball at full price. I did not take advantage of the buy 3 get 1 because I do not particularly care for the triple track. I like either the triple track 360 or plain white which was not part of the offer. I love that these are made in the US just like the Pro V. II will certainly be interested when MS does a quality score on these unless its already been done and I missed it. I have to think Callaway took extra care that the quality is as good or better than what Titleist has been the leader on.
  6. This is a great topic. I recently had the same conversation with my wife. I’ve been playing for 30 years and while I still have fun playing, the expectations I have put on my game each time I play does detract. Once I started breaking 80 under tournament conditions from time to time my expectations became unrealistic leading to frustration and not having fun. I used to put a lot more time into my game and now with increased work and family commitments I play once a week at most and rarely practice. So what should my expectations be? I still remember the peak of my game at a 5.2 and no Matto what I tell myself that is the guy I think is showing up every week.
  7. I just got the Honma TR20 V irons 4-10 and they are sweet. Took the plunge because they gave 25% off after donating to a support the pro charity they were part of. Well crafted and never had Nippon shafts before in any previous clubs. Nice flight. Lofts are good. Not too strong but enough to keep up.
  8. I love my Queen B. I have the limited run with the copper insert from 2 years ago. Also have the Studio Stock 28 Slotback. I would give it a go. It will hold its value.
  9. So I must be in a stuck at home golf equipment buying frenzy. I just bought a set of Titleist AP3 irons 4-GW. I know these didn't test well in the Player's Distance category, but they look darn good and I have never owned Titleist irons. Price was right. Doing my part to keep the economy chugging along. Golf courses open tomorrow in NJ!!
  10. I didn't hit it or get fitted prior to buying but PXG reduced the price from $595 to $295 through April so I took a chance. They do have a phone fitting available. I knew I wanted the heavier 73g shaft and I decided to go 10.5 degree as I usually always go 9.0 and I wanted to do something different. I am also going to play around with the weights as well once I can hit it
  11. Just put the PXG 0811 X driver ITB. 10.5 Fulikura Pro 2.0 7-S stiff. Of course I'm in NJ and EVERYTHING is shut but it makes me feel better having it. Wish I could put up more pics. Really nice head cover and box too.
  12. I have really been enjoying all the information put out by MyGolf Spy for about a year. One of my buddies in my golf group turned me on to the site initially with the ball cutting and testing. I love the No Putts Given podcast as well and felt the next natural step would be to get more involves in the forum. Looking forward to getting tons of information and opinions from all the Spies!
