  1. I think Bandon will provide a 'group' caddy. A group caddy does not carry a bag but walks with the group and provides advice to all in the group. At the end of the round, each player gives caddy a gratuity. Caddies are an enormous asset on Bandon courses not just for reading putts but also target lines for tee shots along with knowledge of where you can miss and/or not miss. 2. FWIW, I partially agree with original poster. MTB-Prime performs well in terms of spin, distance & feel. Whereas I agree the new covers are slightly more prone to scuffing, I still think it is durable enough to play. Sent from my SM-A716U using Tapatalk
  3. As you are aware, several good courses nearby, but courses fun to play by a 6 year old, less so. We go to Sunset Beach regularly and an option a few have used for young golfers is the par 3 course just across the state line in Little River (SC), unable to remember the name. It is on the West side of US 17. Also, at least from the way it looks from the road (Hwy US 17), Valley at Eastport Golf Club might be what you seek for a young golfer. It is across the street from the par 3. I am assuming desired course attributes to avoid for young golfers: forced carries over water, deep bunkers, fast undulating greens, etc, Most courses offer quite a few sets of tees, so choose a set to make sure the young golfer has fun. However, if you are willing to play courses with such characteristics; the nearest course to OIB is Rivers Edge a nice Arnold Palmer design. If you venture out towards Sunset Beach, a few good courses well worth playing and you never leave NC. I especially enjoy these during summer weeks if I get a tee time before 7:30AM, then I am back at our beach house and sitting on the beach by Noon to 1pm. 1) Sea Trail (3 courses: Maples, Byrd & Jones) 2) Oyster Bay 3) Sand Piper Bay (3 nines) 4) The Pearl (3 nines, 9 holes closed Jan 2020) 5) The Thistle (3 nines) 6) Ocean Ridge Plantation (4 courses: Panther, Lion, Tiger & Leopard) 7) Crow Creek Meadowlands Hope this helps and have a great vacation.
  4. Moved to house on Lake Murray last fall. Yes, we have neighbors that rent their house via VRBO or Airbnb. The drive to Augusta is about 1:15. I play Timberlake because it's closest course to my house & a great design (Willard Byrd). Course conditions are steadily improving but still a work in progress. Back 9 greens new last summer. Front 9 to be renovated this summer. Bermuda grass tee to green. How much of the Bermuda grass is not dormant depends on how much warm weather preceeds Masters week. Other courses to consider are Oak Hill & Mid Carolina. Sent from my SM-A716U using Tapatalk
  5. I am at Sunset Beach several times per year and play every time I am there. My personal take on best courses when limited to Sunset Beach / Calabash area; Thistle and Leopard's Chase (1 of the 'Big Cat' courses). There are several others (still in the area) that are good and you should attempt to play them as time allows. If you limit yourself to the courses east/south of US 17 then all 3 of the Sea Trail courses are pretty good, with my preference being Jones. All of the other 3 Big Cat courses (Panther, Tiger and Lion) are worth playing. Sand Piper Bay, Oyster Bay and The Pearl are there and also worth playing. Be aware that The Pearl just closed 9 of its 36 holes (January, I think) and is now a 27-hole facility. That being said, it is worth noting that the Thistle and Sand Piper Bay are also 27-hole facilities as well. As all of the courses I just mentioned are on the beach-side of US 17, they are within 10 to 15 minute drive of the beach. If you are willing to drive up to 30 minutes, your selection is MUCH greater and this post gets much larger.
