  1. Both Dunes courses are a must, and I would try the Sheep Ranch. Old Mac is my least favorite. Bandon Trails seems hit or miss with guys, but I've grown to really like it after not liking it at all first couple of times. Par 3 is nice, expensive though and if I had a choice would play one of the 18 hole courses instead and spend an evening or two on the Punch Bowl
  2. 1 Plantation course Kapalua (best course and views/weather) 2. Pebble 3 Pacific Dunes 4 Bandon Dunes 5 Whistling Straits 6 Blackwolf Run 7 Spyglass Hill 8 Old Head (Ireland) 9 Tralee (Ireland) 10 Mauna Kea/Monterey Peninsula CC (shore)/Erin Hills/Royal County Downs (man I can't leave any of these out!)
  3. Ko’olau in Oahu. Almost no rough before jungle=lost ball. I don’t lose many but lost at least 6 that day. 78.2/155 from the tips. We were on vacation played blue tees and it kicked our arses. Used to have the highest slope in the US at one time.
  4. I’ve been to all 3, yeah I’m lucky. Pebble is Pebble, nuff said but you’ll pay for the experience. Bang for your buck Koehler is better. Resort is super, golf excellent and food/drinks much cheaper. Stop at Sand Valley and/or Erin on your way up or back. But Pebble is still Pebble. Depends on if this is bucket list stuff or just an amazing golf trip. Bandon is the same as Koehler in terms of experience, well run resort, great golf, reasonable food. Last year was the first time in 7 yrs I didn’t go to Bandon. Went to Koehler instead. Would recommend all 3, can’t go wrong, but I go back to if this is a bucket list trip or not. Going to Pebble this fall with a buddy from Ky, as this is his BL trip.
  5. Par 4’s are almost all uphill except #4. Par 3’s take you back down. Played with a fore caddy once who said the course plays 500 yds longer than the tee. Front nine has ocean views on the first few holes then it goes up into the hills. Awesome course. pay attention to your surroundings particularly where the high point of the hill is, as some greens look very sloped one way but if you look around it’s either wrong or not nearly as much as it looks
  6. Mauna Kea is tops, good test of golf and pretty. Hualalai would be next. Waikoloa courses are good resort style as well as Mauna Lani
  7. True knits are extremely comfortable and will accommodate wide feet as well since they basically expand.
