  1. All right youngsters here's how it goes in my house. When working out its classic rock, in the car either Willies Roadhouse or Outlaw Country on Sirius and easy listening at home its Soft Rock or Classic Country on the tube.
  2. Shot an 85 on Wednesday. Weird round. 46 on front. 39 on the back. One triple. One bird. Hit ten fairways with the driver. was 5 for 5 out of the traps. 39 puts. Go figure. Courses around here shut down on Friday until further notice. Need to work on my putting. Appears I will have the needed time.
  3. Here in Nueces County , Texas as of today all courses closed by order of county judge until further notice. Deemed a non essential business. Played on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week under CDC guidelines with no problems. Methinks someone complained we golfers were having too much fun or she is trying to make a name for herself. Not a popular edict with the golfing community down here.
  4. Having tried both the F9 and the Speedzone before purchasing the later, I can truly say the difference is in the new face design. Both are about the same distance wise but the wraparound face on the Speedzone gives it much tighter dispersion than F9. Thus more forgiving. Just my experience.
  5. Use my 3 wood about 5 times a round. Off the tee on 2 short par 4s and off the fairway on 3 par 5s. Set at 15 degrees so works well off the deck.
  6. Curious as to why they didn't use the standard Cobra SZ in the test with the heavy weight forward. When I demoed the Cobra's I got more distance with the standard model in that configuration. The X model in not unlike the Callaway Fusion I retired when I bought the Cobra. Hit 10 fairways today with the SZ. In my opinion one is as forgiving as the other as the face is the same and it does work.
  7. Bionic. Helps set the grip and feels good on aging hands. Wears well also.
  8. Flew with the 101st. Supported their LRRPs and Special Forces up in ICorps. (68, 69 then 71.72) Also did a lot of work for Marine Recon.
  9. Appreciate it. Have followed MGS for a while and found it very informative.
  10. Thank you. Enjoyed my time serving.
  11. Demoed Mizuno Hot metals and Ping G700s when I was looking for a new set of irons. Both went about the same distance but the ball dispersion was considerably tighter with the Pings. So I purchased the G700s. In the end you have to go with what works best for your game.
  12. 74 yrs old. Retired Army Aviation Officer, Two tours in Vietnam flying Hueys, Retired from a construction equipment sales career after that.
  13. Am in the same age range as you. Playing UST Helium shafts in my woods. Bought a set of PIng G700s with Factory graphite senior flex shafts. Am happy with those choices.
  14. Golf Digest had an article about driver loft distance and swing speed several issues back. Claim was at most swing speeds a lower lofted diver got more carry and roll out than with a standard setting. Fooled around with my driver and it seemed to work. Have a 9 degree Cobra Speedzone which I initially set at 10 degrees. Then changed to 8 degree draw setting and got about ten to fifteen more yards. To make this work you need to swing up a couple degrees off the tee. Am a high ball hitter so works for me.
  15. Just want to say this is one of the more interesting and informing discussions I've seen so far on MGS. Started playing golf in earnest at age 40 for business (customer golf) and got hooked. Took a while to figure things out and am competitive by nature just as many here have stated. Am 74 yrs old and in the time since I started playing this game have owned five sets of irons. First set were Pinnacles, then graduated to Slazenger blades, wanted something more forgiving so bought a set of Tommy Armour 855s, then being an old fart decided to go to graphite shafts for less stress on the joints and purchased a set of Callaway XRs with Project X reg shafts. Finally decided I needed more distance and better dispersion and ended up with a set of Ping G700s with senior shafts which I love. Have shot scores in the low 100s, 90s. 80s and high 70s with all these irons. Guess the point of all this is there are many variables in finding a set of irons that match your skill level, physical capabilities and comfort level that allow you to play your best. What is good for one player may not suit someone else. Shot an 81 with the Pings on Wed. So all is good in the world.
  16. Playing Cobra Speedzone driver and 3 wood with UST Helium Black shafts. Driver is 9 degree set to 8 draw with tour 44inch shaft regular flex. 3 wood is 14.5 degree set to 15.5 with standard length regular flex. Both clubs feel well balanced and are easy to swing. Best woods I've ever owned. Averaging 240 with the driver and 210 with the 3 wood. Not bad for a 74 yr old duffer.
  17. Played today at Gulf Winds GC on Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. Sunny, 80 degrees, winds 30 gusting to 37. Shot 85. Couple of drives went 300 plus downwind. LOL. No changes in routine with the exception that only 2 people can sit at a table to adhere to social distancing guide lines in the restaurant.
  18. Agree with PlaidJacket. What we have here is a media induced panic for political reasons. This isn't my first rodeo either. Am 74 years young and have been through much worse than this to include two tours in Vietnam flying choppers. Country is behaving like a bunch of wimps. Yea, you take the proper precautions but you keep a stiff upper lip and drive on. Makes me sick to my stomach to see my country react this way. To cancel these golf tournaments and other sporting events because of political correctness is a disgrace.
  19. Just purchased a Cobra Speedzone 3 wood. Set to 15.5 degrees with UST helium shaft. Distance is as good as my previous Callaway Fusion driver. Demoed against the new Mavrik, distances were about the same but went with Cobra because of adjustable hosel and rails. Can hit it out of most lies. Great club.
