Swing changes have been incredible with the irons and wedges, but have been causing issues in my reliable Driver and 3W.  Sent some lesson and practice videos to fitter and had some discussions about shaft weight, balance point, head weight and swing weight.  The Accra TZ5s that was fit into are fantastic, but they have a very low balance point.  This means that swing weight is typically higher.  This was causing the driver and 3W to get stuck behind me, leading to come much more from the inside than I wanted.  After trying a few different higher balance point shafts, I settled on two shafts.  I sold my Accra's last week.  My new 3W shaft (VA Vylyn) should be here today.  The driver shaft I liked (VA Nemesys) is backordered until next week.

Looking forward to getting these in play.

@jlukes did you get a chance to play that Nemesys? It looks pretty awesome. That is at the top of my wishlist, along with a T1100 and Fujikura Pro 2.0. Do you have a thread where you discuss how you arrived at that decision?

Just asking, partly because I'm curious and partly because I'm getting ready to buy a driver and am looking at options. Reading the material on the Project X Evenflow has made me curious. I used to be a shaft junkie and kept up with anything and everything shaft related. But having a wife and kids has changed priorities a little bit, so now if I see something new it's a pretty safe bet I don't know much about it. So has anyone played an Evenflow? I haven't used the Hzrdus line either, so I know very little about them. I hit my driver 275-280, I have a quick transition, and a short fairly quick swing, if that helps any. The 2 shafts I currently have for my F7+ are a KuroKage cb an a Wave. Both shafts work for me, I'm just looking at other options. I'd like to go to ClubChampion and get fit, but I don't know if that's going to happen.

Is that carry or total distance? If you like a Kuro Kage CB, I don't think the Evenflow Blue will work for you. I can't speak for the Black which is hear is somewhat counterbalanced, but not extreme. With your aggressive transition, unless you like to feel a lot of load and unload in your shafts (like the Tour AD Di or the original Blue Speeder Evolution), I think you'll find the Hzrdus to be more manageable. If you play a heavy head and a club at 45 inches, you might want to try their CB options - Hzrdus Yellow or Smoke Yellow or T1100 (the original Handcrafted $$). Would help to get more info like your preferred playing length, SS, Swingweight preferences.

  3. I'm surprised the announcement of the results didn't crash the site. I also didn't expect Ping to take home the crown considering all the buzz over the SIM and Mavrik. Guess that goes to show that you gotta watch out for the quiet ones. Congrats to Ping, and thank you to all of those that contributed to the testing.

Not surprising considering the total driving. In pretty much every video for every level G410/LST were exceptional performers regardless of seeing speed and level. Sound and Look are subjective and frankly the only metrics that one could know l knock it.

  4. This fitting was accomplished in Sep 2019 at TXG
Driver:  Ended up with the M5 12* head, 1.5* open/-.75* loft,  Accra TZ6 55 M4 shaft, and 45" long. I tested the G410, TS3, Epic Flash, F9, and ST190 also. M5 gave me the best numbers and helped eliminate my over draw miss. I also like the moveable weights as I am working on 3 areas of improvement with my driver (1: more swing speed, 2 - less in-out path, 3 - hit up on ball more). The spin is a little too high (around 2900-3000), but I should be able to bring that down if I improve my angle of attack.
Wood:  Ended up with TS3 16.5* head, B1 setting, Accra FX 2.0 370 M4 shaft, and 42.5" long. Also tested TS2, G410, Epic Flash, M6, and ST190. The 16.5* head gives me the slightly higher ball flight I need/want and the moveable weight helps protect against my left miss now with the ability to go back to neutral if needed as I work on my swing. I also love the classic look of TS3.
Hybrid: Unchanged after fitting. Sticking with 818H1 21* head, C1 setting, TENSEI White 90 S shaft, and 40" long. Didn't see any improvement from TS2, G410, or M6 tested. This had only been in the bag a year and was fit for me so no suprise it stayed put.
Irons:  Ended up with Mizuno MP-20 MMC 4-PW, PX LZ 5.0 110g shafts, 2* flat, 2* weak, and standard length. Also tested P760, Z785, and T100. I previously played a split set of 7-pw blades and 4-6 iron cavity back. It was time to choose more with my head than my heart and get a little more forgiveness. MP-20 MMC and P760 performed the better than T100 and Z785s so I went with the feel of the Mizunos. I went 2* weak to match the ball flight I am used to seeing and to eliminate some off the offset. I play such a "light" flex shaft because I have a very smooth tempo and the 110g weight proved ideal compared to other weight shafts. This shaft choice was the most surprising part of my new set-up. I am also currently testing an MP-20 MMC 4 iron.
Wedges: T20 50.04, PX LZ 5.0 110g shaft. T20 54.14 and 60.06, PX LZ 5.5 115g shafts. All are 2* flat and 35". Also tested RTX4, SM7, and Glide. RTX4 and T20 performed the best. I have played Cleveland's for over a decade and I practice my short game a lot. So, I went with the T20 to have something different and to use that as motivation to practice short game even more. I originally had low bounce in the 54, but replaced it with high bounce to give myself more flexibility in the short game.
Putter:  Unchanged after fitting. Titleist Newport 2, 33". Made 8/8 putts with good launch monitor numbers. Would have been hard to get me to change this one as it has been performing great for years.
Ball:  Pro V1x. Previously was playing the Pro V1. The extra spin is better for all clubs except fairway wood and driver, but I'm only losing maybe 2-3 yards. That's worth giving up for the extra spin with my irons and wedges. Pro V1 or Pro V1x are both just so good.
Have you been for before? What was the biggest difference?

  5. Agreed on the "great review" part.
As for TXG - I was fit by Ian at TXG in Sep. It was awesome. Replaced everything, but my trusty putter. Wrote a bit about the clubs tested in the WITB forum. Well worth the time and money. Wish it was closer so I could go back more often for gapping sessions or tune-ups as needed.
I will be looking for your reviews. Btw, I've started to create playlists of all of TXG's YouTube Video by topics. I've tried to think of how people may want to view collections eg 2020 Drivers or Golf Model Year Comparisons (eg M5 vs Sim). Not done yet but I've indexed everything back to July 2019. One of them is here

Feel free to suggest other playlists.

  6. There are small differences. While specs and things like radial consistency are the same in Project X HC/Small Batch vs Non, shafts from other manufacturers like the Ventus and Tensei are different stock vs Upcharge. Velocore (Ventus) and MR70 (Tensei Pro) are different materials and are higher quality with different properties. While most stock shafts are now extremely high quality, the differences are more noticeable in Xstiff versions, where it's hard to achieve the same characteristics from lesser quality fibers. If you swing a driver slower than 110 or have a very smooth tempo you may not notice as much.
