  1. I'd go with the Forged Tec X because I think the extra forgiveness would benefit my game the most and I've never tried a hollow body iron but have been very curious about them. I absolutely love the looks of these as they are just the right size and hide all of the technology very well. The idea of playing a game improvement club that others might mistake as a players iron is very appealing. Ryan / Bloomingdale, IL Currently playing Srixon Z585 Currently sitting at a 20 handicap Absolutely agree to participate in forum discussions about these sweet looking irons .
  2. You must be playing a ton of golf then. If you play 32 rounds of golf a year and lose a sleeve every round, you need 8 dozen a season. 8 dozen x $5 ea is $40 a year. Meanwhile you will have spent $1200+ minimum on green fees alone. Again, if you're shopping around and buy in bulk when they are on sale, you can find high quality urethane balls for $30/dozen. I think the biannual ball test and the ball lab days show pretty clearly that you don't need to drop $50/dozen of ProV1 balls to get a high performing quality tour ball. And honestly, if you're playing more than 30 rounds a year, it's probably a good idea to cut back and invest more time in lessons and at the range to improve your scores which will in turn drop your ball usage. Personally, I only have ~5 hours a week to dedicate to golf so I choose to spend those on the course knowing full well that is the reason I've been stuck at a 20 cap forever.
  3. I get what you're saying, but like I mentioned before, with a little planning and a willingness to stock up when they are on sale could have you playing a better ball for $0.75 more a round. I paid $28 a dozen for the Maxfli tours and bought enough to last me the entire season, possibly longer since I seem to be losing less on average this season than last.
  4. I'm a high handicap golfer and lose 1-2 balls a round on average and I play tour balls pretty much exclusively. The performance benefits on distance and spin are well documented and if you plan in advance there really isn't a reason why anyone can't afford tour balls. I always buy them on sale and I'm willing to stock up when needed. Currently I'm playing the maxfli tour x and was playing z-star xv before that and I paid under $30 a dozen on average. While I admit that's more than the $15 you pay for 15 rocks at Walmart, it's worth the $2-3 a round extra to me. I've got a couple grand tied up in clubs, $45-65 a round each weekend and beers at $6 each after tip so for me the extra $70 per season for a higher performing ball is a no brainer.
  5. I also have birdie balls and based on my experience, I don't think they work well for a back yard setup. First, they travel pretty far, a full swing with my SW will send one 25 yards pretty easily. Second, unless you have a hitting mat, you're going to tear up your yard in a hurry. It takes a long time for those divots to re-grow. I would check out the reviews of the spornia nets here. They tested the regular size last year and the new XL model is in progress now. Those have some weight to them so I don't think it would take much to get them anchored solidly in a yard of your size.
  6. That doesn't really make sense. Driver lofts are what they are because of the way most people swing them and the "average" resulting dynamic loft. With a driver, you are adding loft because of that flat to upward angle of attack but with an iron the opposite is true, dynamic loft is going to be lower than the static loft because they are designed for you to be hitting down on the ball. If you teed up all your iron shots as high as a driver and then made a "driver" swing, you would be launching everything sky high and losing a ton of distance.
  7. SWAG golf also has a lot of fun covers that are all pretty limited availability so you won't run into someone else with one on the course. They can be pricey though.... If you find something you like, best to head to FB and join one of the BST groups and then post the one you want and see who is willing to sell one. https://swag.golf/collections/headcover-archive
  8. yeah the tech is the same, just a bigger and better radar on the mevo+ but in theory you should get the same benefits. I'm planning to buy some as well as I just picked up a mat and hitting net and will now be using it with my Mevo
  9. Looks like a club that has hit a bunch of sandy range balls. That could honestly be one range session, $140 is a good price for a radspeed and I wouldn't be worried about the face, most of the scratches are likely just in the paint. Definitely one of the drawbacks of all these clubs with black faces, they look good when new but it only takes a couple of balls to make them look shoddy. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the club, just ask the seller if the scratches are in the paint or if they are deep and proceed accordingly and pay with Paypal.
  10. Might have to look into this for my little guy. I've brought him out to the par 3 with me twice now and they don't give a discount at all. Full adult price for dropping his ball 20 yards from the green and letting him 3 putt.
  11. wow, big turnout so far. 417 and counting. I guess a lot of people are hoping for a new set of irons!
  12. are these the dual cor 211 or the previous generation?
  13. wow, someone got a screaming deal.
  14. Yeah it made zero sense why they did that since he had no chance of scoring points once he was forced to pit. As the announcers said, it seems like a serious safety issue to have the potential for the wing to break off and potentially hit another driver at worst or at best, hit the ground and shatter into a million carbon fiber pieces and cause a red flag. I expect there is going to be a new rule or directive from the race director by the time we get to Montreal...
  15. Definitely have to try my luck again at this. Huge thanks to Titleist for the fantastic prizes and MGS for organizing!
  16. You aren't just changing the loft though, you are also changing the lie angle so that could have an effect on your swing as well so keep that in mind. Kudos to your friend though, if I had a buddy who was breaking clubs because he skies the ball too often, I wouldn't let him anywhere near my driver !
  17. Is NPG no longer going to always have a video component to it? I always watched on Youtube and was waiting for episode 100 for like a month only to see Episode 102 uploaded last week. What's going on ?
  18. Only 206 participants this go around.....better odds for all of us .
  19. Sweet prize! Got my line-up set and liking my boys....hopefully I do a lot better than the masters pool.
  20. Since you're in the Chicago area, check out Mistwood Performance center if you are interested in doing a full bag fitting. They will break it into as many sessions as you want and it is much cheaper than truespec or club champion. Assuming you aren't looking for hitting a bunch of exotic shafts and plan to stick to what the manufacturers offer, they should have everything you would realistically want.
  21. Either the scale has to be off or they are fakes. the specs say that shaft should be ~83 grams for that flex so there is no way they could be that far off. I've never heard of "blemished" shafts, but if they are a thing I would have to imagine they would only be cosmetic blemishes and not products that are completely out of spec. There is no way a company like True Temper (Project X parent company) would let a shaft out of their factory with their name on it that was so far out of spec. Does the shaft still have the sticker from the factory on the butt end? Did you measure the tip & butt diameters and compare it to what it should be? Chances are it won't match and some factory in China is taking some old A flex shaft and applying the current Project X graphics to it.
  22. I'm not an expert on refinishing by any means, but if you decide to use an abrasive to remove the copper be sure to wear some kind of respiratory protection because you don't want to be breathing in all of that copper dust
  23. Most PGA tour super stores have practice bays practice bays that you can rent for $10 for 30 minutes and the launch monitor will give you carry distances. Just remember to take a picture of the screen when you switch clubs because they usually can't/wont save or recall the data for you when the session ends.
