... That just isn't going to happen. Made For's fit many more average golfers buying off the rack than a premium after market shaft. OEM's figure better players are gonna play a shaft that fits their swing and that could be a Ventus Black Velocore for you or an AD-IZ for me which are both awesome shafts but fit two radically different players.

Yeah and I totally get the numbers game the OEM’s play: they just won’t get my money for anything that is still full price.

I actually operate the exact same way for my 2nd love, snowboarding: tent sales in august before OEM’s drop new gear force retailers to liquidate everything from the season before. Hard goods, soft goods, you name it.

Ebay remains the superior alternative market for used/prior gen clubs: as long as you buy from a reputable seller with a return policy.

  2. I’m sure someone has mentioned this already, but I’m on a 2-3 year “after market” cycle. What I mean is, I end up fitting into an expensive, after market shaft for driver and woods. Sometimes as expensive as an off the rack head and shaft from a retailer. So I keep my after market shaft for 2-3 years and keep buying 2nd hand or season old heads from eBay. Can’t wait to snag an Aerojet LS around xmas to replace my LTDx LS head. Same goes for my wife, she’ll snag a cheap stealth head to replace her sim2. But would I buy a full price new driver? Not a until there’s no such thing as a “made for” shaft.

  3. I was thinking, “I’m not sure I want to try the ‘23 for a while: I’m still all in on the ‘21 X. And since I have 2 full cubes in the basement, I’m not sure I’ll have to for awhile…”

Then @chisag mentions that he returned some ‘21 for the new ‘23… 🤔🤔🤔

If all they changed was the alignment/cg stripe I’m sure I’ll love this version too. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’ll be playing this ball until it’s as expensive as a ProV1x.

  4. How shafts feel is widely subjective: how you react to the weight and kick(or lack thereof) of any shaft is pretty unique to the individual. Being able to try and not buy will keep your garage from looking like mine, lol. I’ve gone from the Tensei ck pro in my old driver to the Hzrdus RDX blue in my new setup. Both are low launch and low spin, but wildly different to me. My transition is aggressive and I do better(deliver the club more consistently) with the RDX blue. I currently game the yellow in my 5 wood; I like the soft midsection with a very stable tip. What makes the difference in the 2 clubs for me is that I swing a driver much more aggressively than a 5 wood.

  5. Most people with big hands use a bigger grip. I wear a xl glove, but the thicker the grip the more I can’t turn it over: knowledge I use throughout my bag. In my woods where I fear a big left miss, I like the  mcc plus 4  + 2 wraps. Makes me feel like I can go after it as hard as I want, and not hook it. For my irons, I like the exact opposite: skinnier grips(standard Tour velvet) that make me feel like I can aim right and turn it over slightly.

  6. I have a U-505 2 iron that is in a platoon with my 5 wood. For me, it’s really a tee shot only club that doesn’t really offer me much except for tight, tree-lined courses. But since my league course is tight and tree lined, it stays in the rotation.  Not consistent enough to hit it off the deck, and when I do catch it, it’s not gonna stop rolling out. Bit of a one trick pony…

forgiveness is about maintaining ball speed on off center hits

Period, end of sentence. I can hit a “forgiving” driver off the planet. No club will “forgive” your bad delivery/strike.

Be honest with yourself: how often is your delivery/strike poor? Personally I want to be fit for my good swings and coached/practiced out of my bad ones.

Amazing. Bet you could have some fun with your playing crew going over that and how it works.

What are the lengths of the shafts? Any weight positions?

The Ping 3 wood is the LST model: 42 inch Fujikura speeder shaft.

The stealth 5 wood is the plus model: 40.5 inch Hzrdus smoke yellow shaft. Originally I had a 42 in smoke red RDX shaft in the the stealth, and I figured going shorter in shaft length would calm it down…. It didn’t, but it did fix my dispersion.

I wish, still covered in snow up my way. @Micah T I believe has had a chance for some outside practice if I remember correctly.

I used it on vacation in Vegas: it has been a very snowy winter in Salt Lake City:  first winter in recent memory where all the courses have been closed/snow covered.

I have used it on a real green but nit for a pre round warm up.  Probably wouldn’t use it as a warmup aid since I am typically just trying to get the feel for the green and not work on mechanics.

i think I prefer indoors as I have a little more control of the environment and don’t need the space that a real green provides.

I used it pre round in Vegas so I would have video: I don’t know if I’ll continue that going forward. I use my putt-out gate pre round, so it’ll be one or the other, but not both. I do use it every day on my birdie ball mat and prefer that environment for practice.

Question,  It's been a few weeks now... does anyone feel more confident in their putting now than at the start?  Do you feel like you have more control over the starting line of your putts?

I’m sinking way more putts in practice: I usually keep rolling putts on my mat at home until I’ve made 3 consecutive 10 footers, and that is only taking 3 putts as of late. I mentioned this in an earlier post, but I feel like I’m going to make every putt: hasn’t translated to my rounds yet, but 4 vacation rounds in the middle of my off season isn’t enough data.

Been there before. I had a Callaway 5 Deep that outgunned a V Steel 3 wood. Kept them both in the bag for a long time as they were so easy to hit.
I think the Stealths pack so much fire power. The Sim Titanium as well is just a rocket ship. Are you using standard Stealth or the Plus/Ti version?

It’s the plus: ball speed is pretty similar but the spin is considerably lower.

  11. I want to know: because you have to help your fitter. The relationship needs to be dynamic: I know if I’m making odd swings, and I don’t want the fitter fitting me to swings outside of my normal parameters. Everyone on this site can look up optimal launch numbers: how hard you have to work to get those numbers is why you need the fitter.

  12. Reviewing my stats from last year made me start to think about my 2 iron: sure, it’s a reliable tee off club, but what else can it do? After tracking my attempts with it off the deck, I started looking at 5 woods. Surprisingly, I hit the stealth plus 5 wood best. So, after a gapping session, I noticed that the average carry distance between it and my 3 wood(ping g410 LST) were identical. So naturally, I decided to loft up my 5 wood and no good: starting hooking it off the planet. Adding the loft closed the face too much for me. So I thought, “what if I loft up my 3 wood?” So I put it into the big + configuration(16 degrees) and voila! But how I’m hitting a 19 degree stealth’s 12 yards farther than a 16 degree ping is beyond me. So essentially the stealth 5 wood is my 265 club and the ping 3 wood is my 245 club. Golf’s wild…

  13. Anecdotally, I feel like the Devil Ball has made me aware of how/why I miss, which is part of the process of improvement. When I’m putting poorly, I leave the face open and miss right. As a golfer with a strong putting arc, I need to release the putter head, something that is becoming less streaky thanks to practicing with the devil ball I think. It’s shown me that my stance needed improving, as well as ball position. This is changing how I line up where the ball is in my stance, and how the putt looks while I’m standing over it. Will that lead to making more putts? I’m not sure, but I’m feeling more confident over putts…

  14. Top end of my bag(carry):

    Driver -287

    3 wood - 268

    2 iron* - 255

    5 wood* - 245

    4 iron- 227

I can’t do anything but hook a hybrid off the planet. I’m sure I could fine tune an adjustable hybrid to mitigate that, but I hit driving irons well off a tee: but not off the deck. So what does this club need to accomplish @doubleduhric? I’m in the process of auditioning a 5wood to add to the quiver.  For 2 of the courses I play regularly, the 2 iron will go in, as these courses are tree-lined/OB heavy. For the other 3 courses, they feature longer par 5’s and forgiving fairways: no need for a tee shot only club like a 2 iron. Do you need to limit your options to 14 clubs? Can you put a driving iron in for certain courses and replace with a hybrid or wood for others?

It’s not a scam. Just like each company determines the length they want their clubs to be standard. These are design choices by each company.

No different than how they choose their clubs to look, sound, feel, weigh. Or what shafts they choose to make stock, no upcharge and upcharge.

We talk about it all the time on forums when people either ask what their lie, loft, length should be or what effects one of those has on the ball.

What you are pointing out in your post is the importance of getting fit and then refit when the swing/game improves to make sure that one’s current setup is still good for their swing.

contrary to belief these companies aren’t out “to get” golfers

This: I wonder if half the reason why people have brand biases is due to loft/lie differences. Makes you think one company is better than another due to one OEM’s “stock” loft/lie suiting you more.
