  1. Agree with everything @Golf2Much said. Most important thing is to not let you scores out early so that people can't erase that 4 to become a 3.

Additionally I played a fun event recently, where it was a ring toss on a par 3 (where there tends to be back ups on during scrambles). For $10, you got 3 ring tosses at a field of bourbon bottles that were donated by local businesses. Some bottles were worth $15-$20 while there were a few hard to find bottles. Really fun way to raise some extra money and give everyone a chance at winning a prize.

@EMacK1961 and @IndyBonzo for the stranded version what do you find the spin profile to be? It seems to be maybe the lost model with the others getting a bit more hype.

I'll let the guys comment on what they've seen, but from my fitting and after 2 rounds with the Qi-10 standard the spin profile tends to be just a tad higher than the LS (about 200rpm more). For me, the standard ranges from 2400-2800rpm on my good hits and up to 3500 when I mishit it but that's much improved from my LTDx which would spin up to 4200 on mishits.

I like it better than the max which I struggled to get the spin down especially as I tend to be too step on angle of attack. It's interesting how Taylormade seems to have lost the demographic a little with the standard. I think the 3-10 handicap weekend grinder would benefit with the standard over the LS most of the time because of the extra forgiveness, but not have to worry about distance lost on the good ones because of the spin profile.

  3. Did a range session on Monday with my new Qi10. My wife went with me, and I wasn't super diligent about tagging the trackman results to the comparison between my current Cobra LTDx and the Qi10 so I take a screenshot the recorded shots. I will try to do that next week and provide the true data points. I will say the speed across the face though compared to the Cobra is much more consisent. My toe misses are only losing 5-10 yards carry, and dispersion was much tighter with the Qi10. The Cobra on the center of the face might be a bit faster, but on the mishits, I'm losing 20-30 yards in carry.

Not sure I'm sold on the Kai'li White shaft, but that remains an unknown.

  4. Just put the finishing touches on 2 golf trips.

In May, I'm going to Sand Valley for 2 nights and tacking on a trip to Lawsonia on the way back to fly home. Currently on the waitlist for the Lido, but hoping we can get in there while at Sand Valley. Otherwise, we still have 2 rounds at Mammoth Dunes, 1 at Sand Valley, and a couple loops at the Sandbox on the table.

Then due to a last minute wedding in San Diego in July, I'll be playing Torrey Pines. While I have heard meh reviews on the course design, I'm excited to knock a top course off my list and this time the wife wants to join in on the round, so it should be a fun trip (fingers crossed this gets the bug and can greenlight more golf based travel for us in the future)

Oh man, we have to bring our own rubber tees on the mats. I guess people just don't respect the courses out here enough for there to be much else.

Edit: going to do the same as Ben an order the tee holders now. I don't know why I did not think of that. Thanks @GolfSpy_BEN

Another option are the plastic baskets that have variable height. Not as good as a wood tee, but a good option for driving off the mat with consistent tee height

I don't know each person's record, but this is not exactly a who's who of golf...

    image.png.35a2d5c4a2683162c0022328e4fce697.png

    • Two Major Winners
    • 2 Rookies from KFT showing strength in the youth
    • First Am in 30 years to win
    • 2 multiple time tour winners
    • Grayson Murray

This is not that different from many starts to the PGA Tour season where less top players play the Sony Open, AMEX, Farmers and Mexican Open. Pebble Beach getting only 54 holes set the PGA tour back from an epic Sunday and will struggle until they get depth back for bigger events coming.

I never really liked LIV.  I thought of it as a high-paying exhibition thing.  But the last straw for me was Rahm.  Watching the PGA now feels like watching the JV team.  It' just sad that the two cannot seem to play nicely.  Now, guys who barely made cuts before are winning on the PGA.  If I want to see the best players in the world, they're on LIV.

I'll watch golf whether it's LGPA, College, PGA, or LIV.  It's nice that the CW is free, so I have been tuning in recently.

What guys were previously barely making cuts that have now won (outside of Grayson Murray who's awful)? Not denying that the start of the season winners for the PGA tour have not been the massive stars so far, but Knapp is an awesome story, Kirk is a great winner and comeback story, Dunlap is the first Am since Phil to win then Hideki and Clark. I think the bigger issue is that the PGA tour has not capitalized on telling the story of these players. The PGA Tour has gotten so lost in the keeping up with the Jones' (LIV) they've lost the narrative unfortunately.

Pro golf's beauty is that outside of 2000s Tiger, there has always been amazing parity in the top ranks and that any given Sunday a player could win. Pro golf has the best core group of strong competitive young players that it's ever had.

I have to agree. If Phil’s quote never comes out this discussion probably isn’t happening.

I do think the vast majority of pro  golfers don’t make nearly as much money as we think they do. You can really rely on Google searches but they had Rham net worth at 16 million. Which obviously is a lot of money but here in San Diego arguably the number one golfer in the world is going to have a mortgage lol.

Rahm has $51 million in career earnings on the PGA Tour. Think that net worth may be slightly understated especially when you add in sponsorships.

Think your point remains though for the vast majority that they're not making as much as you think they are outside of the top 15-20 golfers. Plus there is a burden of large expenses as a PGA tour pro. The bottom end lose money or break even as they fight for their card.

I think Hatton is a good signing for LIV and I think he came at a bargain  comparatively. I do really appreciate LIV slowly eating away at the European Ryder Cup team as well.

Truthfully I think the  absolute  best signing LIV could have made was Nelly Korda or another high provide LPGA player.  If that was not in consideration they need to hire some new idea people.

I think there is a strong argument that making Nelly (probably most marketable)  a member of a team especially Rhams would have immense marketing potential and unequivocally helped their grow the game argument.  Lastly I saw the scores the regulated players  put up. There is no way Nelly wouldn’t contribute in the team aspect and bring in new viewers.

I obviously have no idea if she would even consider it but giving $50 million to her over Hatton is probably the more profitable avenue.

If LIV is hiring let them know I am available with more marketing ideas.

For a guy who's made $22million on the PGA Tour, saying $50million is a deal is shocking.

  10. For my Dad's 60th birthday, we took a trip to Southwest Ireland a couple of weeks ago. I'll post the itinerary and a short review of the courses we played. TLDR: Southwest Ireland was stunning and immaculate Links golf. The only negative is the lack of centrality to the golf courses, so long drives between different courses. The unreal views and high cliff sides along the courses distract you from the pain of constantly having to punch out of the rough with a wedge.

    Itinerary (Numbers correlate to Day):

    1. Arrive in Dublin, drive to Cork
    2. Play Cork Golf Club
    3. Play Old Head Golf Links, drive to Killarney
    4. Play Waterville Golf Links
    5. Play Ballybunnion Golf Links, drive to Dublin
    6. Play Island Golf Club
    7. Play Island Golf Club again
    8. Fly Home

    Course Reviews:

Cork Golf Club - an awesome Alistair Mckenzie Design that plays as a more parkland design with firm-ish greens and a quirky plot of land. It is a great warm up round for Irish golf as you fight off Jet Lag. Some favorite shots are the blind tee shot on the short par 4 6th. Playing back into a rock quarry, aim at the right chimney of the house on the hill for a 200 yard shot and have an easy wedge in. The 17th is a great par 4 playing from an elevated tee shot down to a hard right to left sloping fairway with the out of bounds wall down the left. 2 good shots to find one of the larger greens on the course.

Old Head Golf Links - Easily the most spectacular golf course you'll ever play in your life. For those who don't know, Old Head is a peninsula on the very southern point of Ireland. Developed in the 90s it's course is played on the edge and over towering 300 foot cliffs. Favorite shots are hard to describe here because almost every hole (except hole 1) is played amongst stunning views of the ocean crashing on the rocks far below you. We played in 35-40mph winds with gusts up to 50mph so a true Irish Golf Experience. Despite the tough scoring conditions, if you're willing to make the drive out of your way Old Head is worth the trip once in your life. Bring Extra Balls, hold on tight and grab a few beers at the turn. The coolest part of this day for us was we played under a rainbow that covered the island. For once in my life, I can say I truly saw the end of the rainbow. Photo of the rainbow and lighthouse below.

Waterville Golf Links - A wonderful Links golf experience. Built in a very small town on the furthest Southwest part of Ireland, Waterville Golf Links, is 18 holes of pure links golf. Nestled between the coast and inlet waterway, the course winds its way for a tremendous design. It was a favorite amongst our group as a course that everyone would love to be a member of. The Modern clubhouse and upstairs bar and restaurant make for a place you'd like to spend everyday looking out over those battling the wind and course. The 18th is a great par 5 finishing hole that plays with the coast and water all the way down the right. It's a reachable 5 with 2 good drives (and the right wind conditions) to the right of the green is a large bank that the right ball will feed back to the putting surface, but a bit too far and you'll be dropping from a near impossible chip.

Ballybunnion Golf Course - The granddaddy and most renowned of the courses we played while there. From the moment you step on the grounds, you know it's a special experience. A classic clubhouse, large driving range with a Top Golf style bay on one end to give you real time feedback on your shanks (this is day 4 of playing golf, some were finding their groove and others were losing their mind trying to find a swing thought), and a beautiful first tee. The first tee shot is an awesome jog left, mid-length par 4 that plays over a graveyard on the right ($100 if you hit a 'Kennedy' Head Stone). After the gentle introduction, the second slaps you in the face as the Number 1 Handicap. A long Par 4 that plays into the prevailing wind and the second shot plays significantly uphill between 2 large dunes to a well guarded green. The rest of the course is a constant battle of risk/reward shots. Play to the narrow part of the fairway to have a wedge in or lay back to have a mid to long iron into a turtle shell greens guarded by deep bunkers. An absolute gem of a routing that I would play again in a heart beat. The only thing here is we had the worst caddies of our trip at this course. Both were inaccurate with yardages, gave bad advice on lines to take, and overall not helpful. By the end of the round, I refused to take any of his advice, pulled my own yardage and utilized the book to pick my lines. Shot 88 and played the last 7 where I didn't take his advice in 4 over.

Island Golf Course - Probably the least known course we played in Ireland, this little course tucked away north of Dublin is an absolutely fantastic course that we played at the recommendation of a friend who lived in Dublin previously. It's a course that plays amongst large sand dunes and swells. It is a great mixture of gettable and challenging holes. It made for a bunch of fun amongst 8 guys who were feeling the pain of playing 6 rounds in a row plus many hours riding in a bus. The stretch between 12-15 is an awesome stretch of golf. 12 is a long par 4 Dog Left that begs you to take off more than you can chew and end up on the wrong side of a sand dune. The 13th is a challenging long 210 yard par 3 played over a ravine. Into the wind on the second day, I hit 3 wood and it barely made it (normally a 245 yard shot). 14 is a knifes edge of a par 4. The fairway only 25 yards wide at its widest makes for the most demanding tee shot of the day with marsh right and deep rough left. The 15th is a long par 5 with a tee shot to a wide and open fairway and a blind second shot that allows you to to take aim at the rock in the hill behind the green. Hit a good second shot and you've got a eagle/birdie chance, but if it goes left its a lost ball and right finds a deep bunker with a 35-40 yard shot to the green.

Once the PGA gives the $50 million players pool #1 spot to Tiger again like last year, you will see more and more players on the move.

I don't think a single player has a problem with the tour rewarding Tiger. Tiger brought more money to golf than anyone in the history of the game and he continues to bring eyes to the game while he plays 4 events a year

Got to be honest!  The PGA Tour better quickly re-think its contention that in order to play on our tour, since for the longest time we were the only game in town, We(PGA Tour) have the right to tell you where you can and can't use your abilities to make money.  Because I think the foundation of their we "the PGA are unsinkable , and unassailable, and its our ball, and if you don't want to play by our rules, we're going to take our ball and go home" is failing fast.  Guess what someone else brought a ball to play with, and their ball basically is coated with money every time you catch it.  PGA Tour better quickly think about "sharing" the golf tournament spoils.

A few more names and someone will pay for a TV contract, so these can be watched.

This could get a little more interesting than I thought.  It is only a matter of time that perhaps we see a LII tour, LIV’s Korn Ferry equivalent…. The ripples will be around for decades.

I think decades is a stretch. Despite what's said about the Saudi money, they won't sink another $2 billion into the league in a year if it's already losing traction. Having no co-sponsors is a dangerous game. Will a CBS or NBC pick up a TV contract for the Saudi league knowing full well they won't be able to charge a premium for ads because of the affiliation? TV contracts only work if there is someone willing to brand themselves alongside the Saudi league. I doubt AT&T and Morgan Stanley are going to pay for advertisements with that league.

In my opinion, the best response from the PGA Tour would be to take the pieces of the Saudi League that are exciting to fans like the team aspect and the pieces that are exciting to players/caddies give stipends for Thursday and Friday, pay for travel expenses, etc. and announce they will be implementing that for the 22-23 season. If you create a more viewable and captivating sport and share the revenue generated then this will never spread to the top players, Saudi League will continue to be a destination for the forgotten and disliked until it dies.

  13. 2 more big names jump ship on the PGA Tour. No details yet known around money for both, but I'm betting that Bryson's number will be close to or beat Phil's $200million.

The PGA Tour has to start reacting to the mutiny or this may get ugly quicker than expected, but on a positive note for the Tour their rules official's just took a big breath of relief with these 2 gone.

My Google feed us flooded with these articles.

I mean he must have more then enough money for several lifetimes so what difference would another stupid amount be?

I agree. Tiger doesnt need to earn another dime in his life, but neither does DJ, yet he still jumped at the money.

My question on this is why Greg Norman would say this?  To me, this statement only hurts your brand. Tiger, who in all reality, may never be in a Sunday final pairing again, turns down a “mind blowingly enormous” amount of money and says basically that he would rather play and lose than take your guaranteed money, shows that it will never be worth it.  If I were GN, I would have kept this as quiet as possible and even gone so far as to deny it.  Not a good PR look.

Norman is a narcissistic ego maniac. He lacks the ability to see that someone turning him down could be perceived negatively. It's all about the fact that he's able to brag about the offer number
