  1. your going to make me go backwards to figure out what the challenge this week is arnt you...
  2. Right after I said that I saw the scores at the top of the page...Guess I stuck my foot in my mouth there...
  3. Ok I had some life stuff going on the last few weeks and don't have time to read the last 70 pages I missed. Is @B.Boston still the resounding favorite to win?
  4. interesting! My club came with a 5g and 20g weight set up. I wonder if the shaft selection changes the weights they ship it with?
  5. Made it out yesterday to play at Greenhorn Creek Golf Course in Angels Camp, CA. Once again I left the 3 wood at home and brought out the new trusty Tour Edge! Once again a hook free round. Used it off several tees, over corners and as approach shots to greens. I had one shot that was out of the rough, 210 yards, up a very steep hill. I though I can try to smash my 3i and hope I clear the traps guarding the green, or I can choke down a bit and just let this club loft it up there nice and simple. Hit it to about 20 ft (then 3 putted for par ). I was thinking that it might have been my best shot with the club so to date. Then I had another shot that was a sharp dogleg right with trees guarding the corner. I needed to go about 235 to get that corner. I threw down my ball, grabbed my Tour Edge, cleared the corner trees, then stuck the approach to 3 ft for birdie. Once again, might have been my best shot to get over those trees and be in perfect position, but no. A couple holes later I cut another corner with driver on a Par 5 (with driver), but apparently should have bitten more off as I went through the fairway and into a trap. I was about 2 paces from the lip, 225 yards out. I have never tried this club from sand yet and figured this would be a great opportunity. Clipped it Perfectly! Cleared the lip, cleared the green side bunker, and stopped pin high at about 15 ft. I could not have hit my 3i that far, nor Could I have gotten my 3 wood over that lip. I stepped out of the bunker and looked at my friend "Man I love this club!" (ohh and I managed to not 3 putt it this time either)
  6. Newest Update on my Mevo usage. I have been using this a lot in the yard and still see the driver numbers being incorrect. I have been out to play real golf twice in the last week and my driver is for sure hitting it farther than the Mevo unit is saying ( I even drove the green on a par 4 that was about 310 yards). Have not even come close to that type of number on Mevo+. (all other clubs are pretty close). That said, I also managed to set this up for a shot while playing my round Sunday on a par 3 had had enough of a wait that I didnt hold anybody up. I shot the flag with my range finder at 170 yards. I hit my shot and the Mevo said I hit it 180 carry. From the tee box i was past the pin so it looked good to start. When I got to the green I stood by my pitch mark and scoped the flag again. 9.3 yards. So that means that over a 180yard shot, it was off 0.3%. I would say that is accurate enough for me! I was very happy with this since to this point I didn't have any confirmed yardages. I hope to continue to do this test a couple of times each round to see if that % holds true.
  7. Managed to make it out to play again today and brought this guy with me again. I decided to play this round more like a standard round and see how often this club would come up and how it would perform when it’s selection might be more randomly needed. I ended up using it 7 times during the round. 4 times on Par 5s and 3 times for tee shots. All 3 of the tee shots found the fairways. For the approach shots on the Par 5s, most were too far out for me to realistically reach the green, but Twice I needed to go over trees to get back into play and both times it wasn’t even close (Cleared them easily)! Of the 7 shots, only 1 did I wish I had my 3 wood instead. It was an approach shot that was about 255 to pin and into the wind. My 3 wood MIGHT have been able to get there if caught just right, but also was more likely to miss badly with how hard I would have to swing to get it there. Not being able to reach the green may have even helped since I ended up in a perfect position to wedge it close and try to sink a put. In 2 rounds this week I hit this club 21 times. All of them stayed in play and only 1 had that dreaded hook (and that was even still not too bad). As to some comments on the sound: I’m with @Zen Snake that I don’t care what a club sounds like if it does what I want it to. I will see if I can get clear enough audio of a few different hybrids to show any differences for people soon.
  8. Hey, 5 years from now people are not going to remember who won this week, but we will remmber DeChambeau's 10!! "Clank" seems like he would be more fun to hang out with though.
  9. So after my home "range" sessions and lasts night on course performance I can say that this club so far has been SUPER easy to get up in the air. I think my highest launch as gotten up to about 135ft. My old Mizuno 17* when trying to hit high got to maybe 98ft and averaged about 66ft. But when I want to I can still flight it down. Have hit solid shots as low as 45ft. That is a HUGE window to be able to play with depending on the needed shot. So far so good.
  10. OK so I went out and played last night with the intention of using this club as much as possible. I managed to hit it 14 times to mostly good success. I had intended to use my phone gps app to mark all these shots down, but my phone died so I had to go back and do this at home based on notes I took during the round. TL;DR: Took the club out and used it 14 times. Some not great shots, some awesome ones. Only managed to Hook the ball once, and it still stayed on my hole. So far it is doing a very good job at arguing itself into my bag! Close to the range of my 3 wood with an average of 242 yards over 10 normal shots (not including my punch shots or the clearly miss-hit 189 yarder). Hole 1: No warm up First shot off of grass...Decent hit with a slight draw 219 yards. Not the distance I was hoping for, but it was the first hit and down the middle. Who's going to complain.... Hole 3: After a long walk from the 2nd green, Pulled this shot a bit, but it didn't hook like my old hybrid would have on a pulled shot (which would have been bad since there is a road left of this hole). Got to my ball and was shocked at the distance...ready for it? 189 yards "Ok thats not good" ...Fingers crossed it was a fluke Hole 5: Another Pull! But again no hook. Stayed on my hole, though not by much. At least the distance is getting better. 246 yards on this one. Hole 6: Par 5 515 yards slight uphill on first shot (Blind fairway as it above you). Hit a nice draw up thr right side of the fairway 257 yards. Left myself with 235 to front pin. Had it cut it a little/hit it over some trees..NO PROBLEM. Choked down a smidge and actually hit it about 253 to back edge of the green. Was playing a little down wind. Hole 8: Downhill Down wind. Tried to hit a high hard draw, but pushed it off to the right a bit instead. Just into the rough about 241 considering the wind and downhill, was a bit disappointed in that distance. Small chance I clipped the edge of the tree, but probably not. Still in play! Hole 9: Bombed it! 275 center fairway. Again a nice baby draw. Hit this one off a small tee. Hole 10: First crack in the armor. I actually Hooked it! Was trying to fly it over the corner trees (205 to the trees) and swung a bit harder. The yellow line indicates the aprox path the ball took. So while I did get it to hook, the ball still stayed on my hole. 2nd shot left me 266 out from the rough but a good lie. Proceeded to push it through the trees just short of the green about 245. Hole 11: Playing 205 to pin, slight uphill, dead into wind. Figured this would be a good place to test some knockdowns. Threw 2 balls down, gripped about 2 inches down on and punched it. Both balls squirted right a little, but 1 was pin high and 1 was about 5 yards long. Pretty good! Hole 12: 312 yard hole. Tried to hit another small draw, but it kept straight. Went through the fairway just into the rough. Another 241 shot. Side note, I decided to go ahead and play a 2nd ball on this hole with driver and manged to drive the green! Then promptly rushed to apologize profusely to the group that was still on said green...I didn't think I was going to get there...That's the Red line. Hole 13: Last hole I hit it on today, but hit it twice off the tee. Slightly uphill, lightly into wind. First shot 241was a normal swing high and straight. 2nd shot I tried to eek out a bit more so flighted it down and played for a draw and got it about 10 yards farther. Both Fairway. 227 yards.
  11. I have a tee time tonight at a course near my work so I hope to get at least 9 holes in. Plan to use this club at every chance I get (even left the 3 wood at home to make sure) to see how it reacts in real grass. So far I have only hit it off a mat. I hope to get more than 9 in, but even it that is all that should give me at least 7 shots in real world playing condition to see how it plays. So far on my Mevo+ set up it has been WAY more consistently straight than my 3 wood (if not just a couple yards behind in distance). Hoping to see if the numbers I was seeing into a net look similar when I get true ball flight and roll out.
  12. Box came in! And when I opened it all I could say was "F-U-D-G-EEEEE"....only I didn't say fudge... It's Indescribably Beautiful. It Reminds me of the 4th of July! You should see what it looks like from out here! (just hoping everybody is catching those are all quotes from a specific movie...)
  13. I like the inclusion of the Hat! Looking forward to more on the Club!
  14. So are some of those shots down hill/wind? If not, why do you think the difference between the 190 and 232 yards shot to shot? (Also, those look to be some well placed tee shots! )
  15. My Wife and Son took some bell pepper scraps and planted them in there. If you zoom in you can see 2 more small sprouts on the left side of the box too.
  16. Too Bad this was me @ 8:00pm when UPS said it would be here between 3:45 and 7:45pm today...Maybe tomorrow
  17. My club is expected to deliver this afternoon so fingers crossed I get to see this in person when I get home tonight!
  18. I am a 4 handicap and have always considered myself a good ball striker with above average distance; especially for my size ( all 5’6” of me.) Because of my height and desire for distance I have always been told I have a violent swing. To continue with that persona I also tend to play aggressively. If there is a chance I can make the shot, I play the shot. Be it trying to drive a 320 yard hole, to punching it though that fork 20ft up in the tree after I miss the previously mentioned hole. I have also for the most part been disgusted with the thought of playing a Hybrid. I have tried many over the years and even had a Mizuno in play for a while, but the constant risk of a hook AND the thought that I was “too good to use a hybrid” kept me from taking them seriously. That is until this test. My swing with the Tour Edge Hybrid: https://youtu.be/KJFM67vxYhA Club Selection: I chose the EXS PRO 17* w/ Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black 6.5 X shaft with standard Length and grip. I picked this based on the suggestion from my normal club fitter’s suggestion of shaft along with a quick test of the closest options I could find that was open in my area. My goal was to pick a club that would be able to step in for either my 3i or 3wood depending on the course to hit that 240-250 yard shot off the tee and into the greens. First Impressions: After seeing reviews for the Cobra Connect challenge, and the Homa Driver reviews I was a bit disappointed with the original packaging that arrived at my house. That didn’t last long though. Once I saw the club all negative thoughts disappeared. I actually think I audibly gasped...followed quickly by the thought “Wow that is a small head”. I don’t think they were joking when Tour Edge said this is a players Hybrid. Its like the Blade of hybrids. It looks to be half the size of my 3 wood. Main Tour Edge Claims for the EXS Pro: Slipstream sole: Speed sole channels reduce turf interaction at impact for full speed power from any lie. While I do not have any scientific proof, but I would probably agree. With all the shots I have hit on the course in the last month with this club I have never felt the club get “stuck”. Every shot it just breezed through the lie weather it was Fairway, rough, or sand. The EXS PRO Hybris is and ANTI-LEFT good players hybrid. Yes, yes and yes. I used this club many times in the last month. Off a tee, tee shot off the deck, fairway, rough, sand...Of my 30+ shots I hit 1 shot that you might have said was a hook; and it still stayed in play.. That means I can say with 97% confidence that my shot will not go to the left. No other club I have can claim that (Not even my putter). I will add that does not mean you can’t hit a draw. Surprisingly I am actually able to play a small draw fairly easily. Old Mizuno (1st photo) vrs New Tour Edge (2nd Photo) (both 17*) Looks (10 out of 10 points) The compact head on this hybrid is beautiful. Because of the compact nature, I found it easy to get my ball to the center of the club face without need of any additional markings on top. I loved the super clean look of the smoke shaft going into the black head then right down to the black ti face. It really makes the ball stand out at address and directs your focus where it should be. Sound & Feel (6 out of 10 points) The Sound of this club is nothing special. Hitting back to back shots between this and my M1 3wood the sound to me was the same. Now admittedly I don’t pay too much attention to sound and try to focus more on performance. I can say nothing about the sound of this club put me off in any way. I did however feel it lacked a little in the feel department. While I knew the ball wasn’t going far left on any shot before even hitting it and you can feel if you really toe it, anything else pretty much felt the same so for the split sec from contact to bringing my head up I often thought the ball would be going one place and it being in a slightly different one. Basic Characteristics (15.7 out of 20 points) Trajectory – On a neutral swing from most any lie I would classify this as a High Trajectory aprox 100ft avg. However, I was able to fairly easily dial it down to 60ft or up to 130ft when needed for certain shots. I found that getting this into the air was way easier than any long Iron I have ever had. (20 out of 20 points) Workability – I was able to play a small cut and draw shots and could hook it if I really wanted to. However, I was not able to hit a slice even while trying.(15 out of 20 points) Accuracy – Because of the consistency in eliminating the big spinning shots I found this to be extremely accurate. You can see below in a 10 shot session how consistent the distance and accuracy was. (20 out of 20 points) Distance – For Raw Distance...Not as much As I was hoping for (and not really any longer than a 10yr old Mizuno 17* hybrid). I was hoping for a 250 yard shot and got more to 230-240 off the tee. (10 out of 20 points) Forgiveness – Very forgiving for me. With the exception of my first 2 shots on course I never hit the ball and was surprised with the lack of distance. I never came up short on any shots I was trying to hit “a distance”. (20 out of 20 points) Adjustability – Little to none. They do not provide any additional weights to swap out or a tool to do it. There is also no hosel adjustment like what has become fairly standard on many other clubs. (you can purchase extra weight individually for $20, but knowing which ones to order is a guess and check ordeal.) (5 out of 20 points) Pressure – I have extreme confidence in this club. Stepping up on the tee or into a shot into the green I felt I knew exactly what the ball was going to do. (20 out of 20 points) What factors were you pleased with? Where it counts this club delivers. It looks good, and hits it straight. I can confidently step up to the ball and know where I will end up. In n golf Consistency is key! I feel that the average above is misleading. If you don’t need adjustability (once fit for it) or just flat raw distance then you get a 19 out of 20 which is darn good! What factors did you find lacking? I do wish it had come with more options for adjustability. While I really like my set up now, would I love it if there was a 10gram weight in the toe instead of a 5gram? Who knows?? On-Course / LM Performance (28 out of 30 points) Unfortunately for me, shortly after getting picked for this test my phone took a swim in a river and never woke up so I was not able to use GPS options on course. However, I tried to track this info by noting my distance into greens and then backing out from the tee distance from there. I found that on course I was averaging just over 240 from the tee and about 225-230 into the greens. If I had a tendency for a missed shot it was to the right! With a Hybrid! On my launch monitor I tried to show my consistency using the FS Skills app on flightscope Mevo+. I think most people would be happy with those shots from 225 out. I was able to easily hit shots with this club that would have me shaking in my boots to try with my 3i or 3wood. (I took 2 points away because there was a time that I needed to play a bit cut around a corner and just couldn’t get it to curve enough) (257 off tee) (253 over the green) (Smooth swing choked down about ½”) Final Performance Comments: When I first got picked for this test I told my wife this would be interesting because if I had gone out to pick a new hybrid I don’t think I would have even given Tour edge a chance. Now after using this for the last month, I am thinking about buying several others! It looks great and plays better than it looks. My golfing buddies also commented about how I was hitting shots they have never seen me pull off before. Miscellaneous (8 out of 10 points) The packaging was sufficient to get the club to me, but was nothing special. The only other part of the club left is the headcover. I wasn’t too big a fan of the color scheme, but quality and fit were top notch. Sometimes club covers are too tight or too loose leading to issues with getting them on or falling off. This went on very nicely. Play it or Trade it? (20 out of 20 points) Play it. As much as possible. Depending on the course I will either drop my 3i or 3wood from the bag, but this isn’t going anywhere. If anything I may pick up some of the other lofts or one that adds that ½” of length to the shaft to truly be able to replace the 3wood. Conclusion (TL;DR) I started this process with no love of hybrids and the unfounded notion that Tour Edge was a sub quality band. I have totally reversed course on both of these thoughts. This club has hit on all aspects that really matter when it comes to golf. It does exactly what it claims to do by eliminating the hook other hybrids have been prone to. It looks great, is extremely consistent and most importantly builds your confidence on shots that would have otherwise left doubt in your head when stepping up to swing. I would not hesitate at all to not only recommend this club/brand to my golfing friends, but will also be including them in any product evaluation I do from here on out. The ease of this club to launch the ball high and accurate over a long distance from any lie I faced was just not fair to the people I was playing. This club will not be leaving my bag anytime soon! My only sub positive thought would be to get fit if possible before buying. The adjustability we have become used to from other brands with movable weights and shafts are just not present with this club so it is important to get it right the first time. Once you got it though, you got it! Final Score: (87.7 out of 100 points)
  19. For those too young or too old this is a rollerblade aka inline skates ! Lol! Just such a super random and old method of transportation to pick ! Love it. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  20. I move around between 8' and 12', but mostly hit at about 10'. When I get out to the 12' range I am not able to hit anything below my 7i as I am worried I will go over my net. At the 10' range I can hit everything but my 60*. From 8' I can hit anything. I moved back to try and see if it made any difference in the readings and found my sweet spot to mostly be the 10' range.
  21. Quick update on my Mevo unit. I took it out to a driving range this weekend and was able to see that the numbers from Short Indoor setting and Outdoor setting matched up pretty close. I noticed the numbers were a little shorter in the outdoor mode, but I was also hitting fairly worn range balls and not hitting all that well to be honest. There was also a bit of wind and I don't know yet how the unit handles wind since it imports the weather at your location when on outdoor mode (i.e. Is it normalizing your numbers based on wind, or is it just noting it down so that when you go back and review it indicates the weather at the time of the session). My next test will be taking it out on an actual course and setting it up on my tee shots so I can use the GPS on my phone (I use Golf Logix App) to confirm total distance (unless I can clearly pinpoint carry distance from the tee (such as par 3's). All in all I was very happy that the numbers were so close as now I can trust my home set up a bit more, though I was disappointed that I still hit my driver shorter than I think I do when on the course...My wife says getting old must suck...
  22. And now I have to add that to my wish list! Thats pretty cool.
  23. Looks to me like your handicap should be dropping pretty soon!
  24. My NCGA Handicap is currently @ 4.4. In the last year all my scores have been between 74 and 86, playing a wide variety of courses, course ratings, Slope ratings, and lengths.
