For the second round in a row my best shot of the day was my first tee shot.
Now if only I can keep that momentum moving forward next round!
-
Last night's session showed that I'm definitely not back to 100% from the mountaineering trip - my numbers were down almost entirely across the board (with a few non-dominant side exceptions). I also did the session in the garage, which may have played a factor - I feel like I always struggle to swing at max power indoors, there's definitely a bit of a mental block there.
-
I'm a bit behind on the program because the mountaineering trip last week took a lot out of me. 22 miles round trip, with over 9000 feet of elevation gain, in a little over 20 hours (left the vehicle at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, and got back around 3:00 pm on Thursday). My legs are feeling like they're back to 90% today, so I'm going to pick up on the training this evening.
Here's a shot on the summit - I'm in the red jacket.

Putter was good. Ball rolled true every time and right on my line. Will take a little getting used to, as I'm switching from a lighter blade to a heavier mallet. I couldn't get the speed right and left most of my putts short. Randomly, I blasted one putt and the ball hit the lip and did about a 450° before dropping in the cup, which doesn't mean anything but was super cool to witness. I didn't like using the mallet off the green, though. It felt like it was going to catch in the grass somewhere but that may just be a mental block.
I didn't get to hit the 6 hybrid in my fitting as it was a more custom option. I don't know how I feel about it. My game's been in a bad place for a while and I decided to experiment and go hybrid-heavy because it was about the only thing I hit well at my fitting. The 6 and even the 5 visually don't line up in a way that seems right to me, although to be fair alignment has long been one of my issues anyway. I had the same situation with my 7 wood, too. I already gamed a 7 wood but it was an older club with a much smaller head. Overall just going to take some getting used to.
Might be worth using the 5 or 6 hybrid like a putter for those off-the-green shots. I know what you mean with the mallet putter in those situations though - my approach is usually go put the ball a bit further up in my stance so I’m hitting up on it a bit.

A quick progress check yesterday after 2 weeks of the training, things are trending up.
This was the final swing from that set:
After last night's session, I won't be doing another session until Friday this week, because I am going on a single-push mountaineering effort with some friends after work on Wednesday and through the day Thursday. I don't want to put a session in Wednesday morning because I'll need maximum energy and fitness for the climb. I should be fully caught up to my normal schedule by the end of next week though.

For folks who wanted to see how much of a workout it really is - I manage to work up a pretty good sweat!
For reference, my resting heart rate is 60 bpm, and my max is ~195. The first 7 minutes or so were the warmup, and the valleys in the HR graph after that point were the 60-second breaks before moving into the heavy stick.

What don’t you like about it? I’ve never seen a caddytek in the wild, so I’m not familiar with them.
It’s mainly just the finish of some of the features - water bottle holder doesn’t stay on anymore, it’s a struggle to unfold at times, is very liable to tip over backwards when used with a lightweight bag. For the money it’s definitely not bad, but it has the overall feel of a budget product for sure.

Very thankful to be selected for this review. I'll have more on this later, but my 5 year old Caddytek was starting to fall apart so this comes at a perfect time. Let us know if you have any specific things you want us testers to be on the lookout for. Durability, stability, weight, folded size, flammability, buoyancy; it's (mostly) all on the table!
I'm currently using a Caddytek and not 100% in love with it, so I'll be interested to see what you think about the Clicgear!

Or maybe not, the air quality has shifted into the hazardous range for here and very unhealthy is the quality at home. Trying to come up with some alternative for tonight... hrrm
Wildfire smoke has become a normal part of summer for us out on the West coast, and for folks who are susceptible it can be pretty brutal. For sure stay safe out there!

Second time I've seen you make this comment in this thread - seems a bit ignorant to knowingly repeat false stereotypes because you think it's funny. There's plenty of jokes to be made without bringing in a religious group that has zero connection to this entire thing.

One of the things we were told in the pre-testing meeting is that part of what we will notice is that the time of day we do the exercises will impact our speeds. I found on this morning that testing before breakfast is definitely not optimal for me, as most of my speeds were down. I did hit 110 with a left-handed swing for the first time though!

I don't see how these LIV tournaments continue in their current formats. The merged entity won't want star players playing regularly in different tours.
What we've seen this season so far though is that split tours make the majors even more prestigious and exciting for fans, because it's the only time that we get to see all the top golfers play against each other.
They definitely wouldn't want to dilute their own product, but I could see a situation in the short term where LIV events and elevated PGA events are specifically scheduled to not occur at the same time so as to not split the viewership. Long term I imagine that they will move towards some sort of promotion/relegation model - or maybe LIV becomes an "all-star" league during a break in the PGA schedule. Lots of potential ways it could go.

This is crazy, did not expect to see this news anytime soon!
All the guys that turned down big-money contracts from LIV to stay on the tour must be kicking themselves now…

Played some 9-hole matchplay against my brothers last night. Great conditions at North Bellingham, and teeing off at 6:53 makes for some beautiful twilight golf. They played best ball and I gave them 2 strokes.
Hit my longest shot of the day with a 276-yard 3 wood off the first tee, made par to take the lead, and then held the lead from then on. Was struggling immensely with chipping though due to the very thick rough on the course - it was fine when I was going with the grain, but couldn't get through it going against the grain.
I was 2 up on the par-3 8th tee, and my one brother (who was last off the tee) goes and sticks one to 8 feet.
So on to the par-5 9th tee 1-up, and there I managed to outdrive him by 30 yards. At which point he goes driver off the deck to an excellent position, and my second shot misses way left, and before I realize it the match ends in a tie.
Still, any round out with my brothers is a good one!

Having a good start to the round is nice, but when your first shot of the day is your best shot of the day, it gets increasingly aggravating as the round goes on! And here I thought I was being smart going with 3 Wood to lay up and avoid the greenside bunker.....

Two sessions in and I feel like I'm getting the hang of it. I have tons of room for improvement given my lack of existing workout regimen, but these rates of improvement are definitely not sustainable!
What has surprised me the most is that with the normal swings, my non-dominant hand is only 10 mph slower. Feels awkward as all-get-out (and I'm sure if there was a ball in front of me I would whiff) but at least I am getting some speed out of it!

... And evidently I am right there with Noble and Freddie as my index ballooned to an 11.2 and has been listed that way for almost 3 weeks now so too late for any of you to accuse me of "accidentally" adding a 1 to 1.2 I just hope my 11.2 index doesn't go to 21.2 playing a new course for the summer.
I did the opposite with the Cobra Challenge - we had to set a 5-round baseline with our old clubs using Arccos, and the very first round out I set a personal best score by 8 strokes

I've updated my initial post with my baseline numbers - looks like I'll be trying to build off of a 110-mph club-head speed.

Since my putting has been crappy lately, wanted to look at this. Is it hard to get this to relate back to the course since you are putting on a short mat or is the feedback on the TV pretty realistic?
It depends on both your putting style and how you've been missing lately.
I can say with confidence that using the Exputt will improve your ability to hit putts on your intended line. The key component for that is face angle at impact (with a little bit of nuance related to centered strikes, especially if you use a low MOI putter).
As far as practicing distance control, I found the Exputt incredibly helpful, mainly because it allowed me to identify an easy way for me to control putt speed based on stroke length (rather than trying to hit the ball harder or softer). My review post on the first page goes into this in a bit more detail, but basically depending on how far back I went in my backstroke relative to my back foot, I would get different ball speeds, and could correlate those to distances. Now, part of my pre-round routine is finding a flat spot on the practice green and getting an idea for how far a putt will go at 3, 4, 5 mph, etc.

I think I'm gonna need to start incorporating some kind of neck warmup into the usual dynamic warmup routine - very stiff and sore neck after this morning's session, could feel it coming pretty early into the session.
