  1. I golfed with a gentleman today who claimed that golf shafts "wear out" and need to be replaced every 4 years (assuming 50 rounds per year). Can anyone (equipment junkies, club builders, club fitters, etc.) please chime in with your thoughts on this? Is this a valid claim?
  2. I am looking for a set of irons that are in between blades and game improvement irons. I currently play titleist AP2 710 4-pw. I bought them when they came out because I couldn't stand the look and feel of the AP1's or any other GI irons. I'm a 16 handicap and they are on the small side(club head). I have looked at the mizuno JPX 850 forged irons because they are slightly bigger club heads but have a nice blade style profile. I was wondering if there is any other irons out there that I should look at. Is it me or are there not that many "in between" clubs out there?
  3. Hi Everyone, I don't post too much, but I really love the irons and the whole setup of my bag to the point where I believe everything is very dialed in! Been playing for 2 full seasons this will be season 3 and very excited to get out on the links!! A little more Detailed WITB than my signature: Driver: Nike Vapor Flex, weight forward, Diamana S+ 60 shaft in stiff, loft is 9.5 or 10.5 still see which flight is best once I can actually hit outside (Canadian winters), Draw bias 3W: Callaway Big Bertha 2014, Fubuki Z65 Stiff shaft, 15 degrees draw bias. 3Hybrid: Callaway X2 Hot, Callaway Ultralite Blue 60G Shaft, 19 degrees The good Stuff! Irons, Gotta say I'm soooo happy with these: King Cobra LTD Pro MB/CB Combo BLACK FINISH 7-PW MB's and 4-6i CB's, so workable high and low trajectories! AND FEEL PHENOMENAL!! 1/4" Short, 2 Degrees Flat, standard lofts. C-Taper Lite 110G Stiff shaft(unreal shafts, tight dispersion left to right and front to back, perfect mid flights) Wedges: 54 degree RTX 2 dot(stock shaft, will replace after this season) 50(2dot) and 58(3dot) are RTX 3 with C-Taper Lite shafts 110G Stiff, just got these haven't hit the 50 but 58 is amazing for chipping and being creative around the green. Putter: Nike method, blade style w/ insert (not a great putter so it will do for now) Thanks for checking out my bag, leave some comments, and if you got any questions about those irons! Attached a few pics, Driver got replaced by nike, old picture had the cobra driver
  4. Well fellow Spys, it's time for a little spring cleaning. All items are OBO and willing to negotiate. Not trying to get rich, just make it fair. I've been buying and selling on eBay for a long time (ID=pgcsf). I know what things are worth, I keep items in best condition possible and I have great feedback. As for shipping, smaller items are most likely free. Everything else, we will decide best option together and I'd prefer to split cost 50/50. I usually use USPS priority and it's almost always reasonable. Any thoughts/questions we'll work it out. Will ship within 48hrs of received payment. I try very hard to describe all items as accurately as possible. I take great care of my equipment and have no problem passing it on to others to enjoy. Anything, please ask. Please DM me Oudefart and I'll happily include more pics for any specific item. Thanks. I will do my best to honor correspondence in order received. I reserve the right to end any discussion/agreement should it get nasty (it happens, at least on eBay). Finally, I request all transactions via PayPal. I'd prefer using Friends/Family option to avoid an fees. Thanks. Here's the list: - OBAN Kiyoshi Black shaft for driver. 04 flex (stiff) 75g. Depending on head, finished club should measure roughly 44.5" $125 OBO - Leupold GX-1 rangerfinder. VERY lightly used as I bought one with slope shortly after getting this. $115 OBO - Titliest 915F 15° 3W, Diamana Blue Board 72g Stiff. Shaft is brand new, never used it with this head. Club in great condition. Headcover included $140 OBO - Nike B1-01 Converge Counterflex putter. 38" Basically new, owned about 6wks, played 2x. Headcover & tools included $90 OBO - Titliest Sunday "pencil" bag, black. VERY lightly used , maybe 6x - Hogan Apex Plus iron set. Collectors dream. These are brand new, never used. PW has a couple shots on it. Make serious offer - Callaway Sunday "pencil" bag, black. VERY lightly used , maybe 6x $45 OBO - Odyssey putter. Brand new in package. $15 (free shipping) - Hogan Apex Plus iron set. Collectors dream. These are brand new, never used. PW has a couple shots on it. Not from me, most likely the person I inherited them from. Make serious offer - Miura CB-202 heads (4-PW). These are in great condition, LOTS of life left in them. They have expected bag chatter, however I always us iron covers on them when playing. Additionally, I have a set of True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 shafts I'll include. Or, I can build them for you. I build them to Miura stated specs. $800 OBO 4 iron - (shows least wear) PW - (shows most wear)

I haven't thought about the company in years, I had thought they went out of business. maybe they did i'm not sure but i searched them and to my suprise they are still making clubs and the MB forged irons are beautiful. has anyone hit them?

  10. Hello folks, new guy here, I have finally decided to buy a new set of irons this summer after gaming the same set for ~15 years. Have never been fitted for irons either. Primarily looking at Titleist AP2/CB, Mizuno H5/MP-15, or the new Hogan hi/PTx (always admired the Hogan Apex Plus). I am not an equipment junkie so I am really going to take my time with this decision. I am an ok ball striker with a horrible mental game. My current set has 4* gaps with a 48* PW which gives me 3 wedges up to 60* (love my 60*, too much probably). I spoke with a Mizuno fitter who was really surprised that I would want to bend every iron to keep my current specs. He said it just wasn't modern. Modern meaning 46*PW. I really like having a uniform progression up to 60* (perhaps my attraction to the new Hogan philosophy). It works really well with my distances so that my 8i (40*) goes 150y. Distance isn't as big of a concern as constant yardage gaps for me. I realize this is probably an old and tired question, but how do you folks deal with the new 'modern' lofts? Do you bend them? Carry wedges with larger degree gasps (assuming you want a 60* wedge)? Am I missing something? Please educate this equipment dinosaur.
  11. Golfsmith Tour Cavity Pro irons 4-9 with good Golfsmith slight oversize grips. True Temper shafts. Very clean heads. $27+actual shipping via USPS Priority Mail. I accept PayPal as a gift or add 3% to cover fees. Email me at dwcopple@yahoo.com See pics.
  12. Beautiful old set of Karsten 1 irons, all matching serial numbers, original shafts. Never abused, and kept in climate controlled environment as long as I've had them. Pictures include face of the PW...grooves still in excellent condition. All grooves on all clubs in this or better shape. Make me a good offer, please!
  13. Excellent set of Taylormade M2 irons 5-PW and a Taylormade M2 Tour Gap (A) wedge. I have taken individual pictures of the gap wedge and the 7 iron to show the difference between the M2 and M2 tour. The M2 Tour gap wedge blends seamlessly with the set and features slightly less offset than the standard M2 irons. These clubs have been upgraded to Project X 6.0 Graphite shafts and have Golf Pride Velvet Cord grips on the 5-PW and Golf Pride Z Cord grip on the Gap (A) wedge. They have been played approx. 12 rounds with range sessions in between. The faces show minimal normal wear and the soles have no rock chips or dings. Swingweight is D2 and the 5 iron measures 38.5" long. Images can be found here: http://imgur.com/a/R9Dtc Email me at rcslade@hotmail.com Asking $523 shipped OBO.

  15. If the hype about the new MP 25 irons from Mizuno is true my search for irons with feel & "distance" may be over when they are released in September. Mizuno claim that by using Boron along with their grain forged technology they have been able to add up to 7 yards in distance to the new irons. The 25's have been released as direct replacements for the MP 54's which as you all no doubt know that is what I am gaming and have been sort of looking for a longer set of clubs without resorting to the game improvement, loft jiggered irons on steroids type club. The 25's are also apparently more compact than the 54's which apparently appeals more to the better player. I must admit I've never really understood that angle but to each their own. Also being released soon is the S series wedges. These wedges are supposed to be somewhere between a game improvement wedge and your traditionally forged models already part of the Mizuno line. Wedges are something else I've been sort of looking for too. I've picked up lots of club whoring techniques since joining this forum and I am thinking of checking into rehab as soon as possible after purchasing a set of MP 25's, and matching S series wedges oh and a cute little Mizuno putter I spotted at the local Muni course pro shop yesterday
  16. I've got a 5-P set of used Mizuno MP-58's. They have Nippon Pro 950GH r-flex shafts and the factory Mizuno dual compound grips. These have been used but the faces are still in solid condition with no browning at all, I'd say the grips are almost done with though. The shafts weren't right for me so i'm selling them to make room. Price is $125 shipped via USPS and payment via PayPal. If you think the price is too high feel free to let me know, i have no need for them so would be willing to discuss.

  18. FROM THE BLOG 2015 Bridgestone J15CB, J15DF and J15DPF Irons + J15 Wedges http://www.mygolfspy.com/2015-bridgestone-j15cb-j15df-and-j15dpf-irons/ 2015 equipment is just around the corner and we've now seen what Bridgestone looks to be offering in the iron and wedge department. Are you seeing anything thus far that makes you want to rush out and try them when released? Do you think it's been too long since we've seen any substantial from Bridgestone for anyone to actually notice? Let us know your thoughts.

  20. I had a lesson with Monte Scheinblum on Friday and got great shaft lean and lag by trying as hard as possible to dump it all! Check it out
  21. These look very nice........would like to get a couple swings in on them.
  22. TaylorMade Rsi2 Initial Impressions The TaylorMade Rsi2 irons are here and I managed to get out to the range after a month off today and hit some shots. I'm quite impressed by my limited interaction with them so far, but it's a lot better than staring at them in the office. For the last season I've played a fitted mix set of TaylorMade CB 3-7 & MC 8-PW with KBS Tour stiff shafts (115-120g). The Rsi2's are adjusted to my specs (1° up) with the stock KBS Tour 105g shafts. I found these easy to hit with a baby draw at worst and loved how penetrating the ball flight is. No hint of ballooning at all. LIGHT First thing you notice about the Rsi2 in hand is lighter weight which is easily attributed to the lighter shaft I'm sure. They feel very balanced in hand and you can tell where the club head is at all times, I did not think this fought against my quicker transition at all. MUSHY Lighter shafts, forged faces & some gooey face slots seem to equal a very crunchy-mushy feel on the first few swings. As I got my groove on this feeling really grew on me a lot. It was 2 degrees Celsius this morning and I really liked the feel of these. LONG So much for the half-to-full club I lost with the MC/CB's, accroding to Swing Caddie we're almost back to RocketBladez distances without the over-sized club heads. I was hitting a 7 iron roughly 170 and I was on TrackMan a month ago hitting CB 6 irons around 176. FORGIVING Mishits happen and not longer do you lose 10 or so yards. According to swing caddie those not so centered shots are coming in 5-6 yards less. ACCURATE It's a Christmas miracle! Seriously I hit a few off the heal & spattered a few on the toe and they were always within a 10 yard gap. The ball doesn't leak away, you can see it fighting to stay straight. For lack of a better phrase they're "stupid accurate".
  23. Full court press from the Big Swoosh on the new Vapor line of irons. Click here for the full story from the Nike website... Question is - do you find them Sexy or Silly? Been gaming the Vapor Pro Combos for about 3 weeks now and they perform...and to my eye they fall on the Sexy side. What say you?
  24. Speed Review TaylorMade SpeedBlade VS. RocketBladez Set Up As most of you know I wasn't always on staff with MyGolfSpy and a year ago today I posted my ‘Member Review Unboxing' of TaylorMade RocketBladez. Well jump ahead a year and one full season with the RocketBladez exclusively in the bag. Over this time I've had the opportunity to learn all of these guys' tricks and capabilities. Are they deep? Yes. Are they consistent? Fairly. Do they want to make me go out and play golf again tomorrow? YES. So seriously what's TM going to be able to do next year? Guess what, its fall of 2013 and TaylorMade have released the next big pocketed thing for 2014; the SpeedBlade. TM's also back with all of last year's marketing mumbo jumbo and it kinda reads pretty much the same… Longer. Higher… Well here read this. So back to the TaylorMade Player Center at University Golf Club I go for a visit with TM fitter Andy Johnson. Oh boy Danny's excited, if I had this much fun over the last season playing RocketBladez what are SpeedBlade's going to do to me? Looks Gone is the chrome & the mustard colored badge and instead TaylorMade has opted for a more neutral gunmetal satin grey and blue branding. TM has managed to reduce the bulk of the iron as well pushing the SpeedBlade much closer to the player's end of game improvement irons. This club will certainly appeal to the high single digit handicaps with its more compact design. Feel/Sound Gone is the horrendous sound in the slotted irons that made me almost jumped out my skin the first time I hit a slotted RocketBlade at a covered range. As a matter of fact I think everyone on the range stopped to look... Anyways I'm sure this is simple a byproduct of changes in design and better technology. Or, is it? Whatever I'm just being facetious; it's gone let's move on. The sound of the SpeedBlades is fairly pleasant in comparison, a lot more muted but still more cast than forged. Feel wise thinner faces, more face flex and the magic pocket goo have reduced any of the harsh cast feel of days gone by. The RocketBlades never really bothered me as you get used to a club over time, but you can instantly tell once we hit warmer temperatures in Vancouver and tour balls come back into play the SpeedBlade will be a far softer feeling iron. Performance OK let's get to it this is a Speed Review. Enough jibba jabba, let's find out if there's any improvements. A month ago before the Player Centre received their SpeedBlade fit cart and the weather was a good 10˚ Celcius warmer (it was like 62 degree F that day for my American friends), I was able to compare the same stock shafts in the RocketBlades and Speedblades. Stock 7 irons Stiff 85g Shafts 90% limited flight balls Distance – SpeedBlades take this one The other numbers here are interesting too. Swing speeds up & ball speed down, but when you combine a lower launch angle and spin rates in the SpeedBlade it results in a flatter more penetrating flight. This was a noticeable improvement and a welcome one. Move on a month later, temperatures have dropped and it's an eerie, foggy, cold Halloween night. Yes Halloween so I'm expecting some ridiculously “Spooky” numbers. Sorry I had to go there… So with the fit cart in I'm now able to match the specs I've been playing for the last year. 7 irons KBS Tour S shafts 90% limited flight balls Now keep in mind it's a cold and foggy night so numbers should be down from last time. Distance – SpeedBlades once again OK so total carry is a saw off, boy those RocketBladez sure ran out. But when it comes to carry distance there's still an improvement. Once again though, the other numbers tell a story. As you can see having a fitted shaft can make a world of difference and these numbers reflect what I've observed with my RocketBladez over the past year. It's exciting to know that with the same custom shafts the SpeedBladez can perform even better. And here are a few other observations of note about SpeedBladez. Distance consistency between shots is closer Dispersion is tighter Flatter but higher ball flight The Wrap SpeedBlades Higher Farther Softer MBP Approves http://taylormadegolf.com/irons/speedblade.html
