  3. I am a mid to high handicapper and I am looking for a new driver. I have been using a Titleist 909 D2 for the last couple of years but think it's time for an upgrade. Does anyone have any suggestions for what will give me the maximum length and forgiveness?
  4. So I have started using a Skycaddie Linx GT watch with smart tags on the course. Yesterday it rained pretty good right before I played so the course was soggy. I found out that with my Nike Ignite 460 I am only getting about 225-235 carry distance. I have measured distances of 245-275 other rounds using GPS and am thinking that due to the wet conditions I got zero roll out which could be the reason the distances are short. Even with my 2 iron hybrid I am only getting 210-217 distance. I guess I am going to need to get a fitting to optimize the carry distance. Now granted it didn't hurt me that much cause I shot a 79. My swing speed is 99 mph most of the time as measured by trackman during a driver fitting earlier this year. At that fitting, the pro didn't even ask me to hit my driver for reference which was weird and ended up suggesting a Titleist 917D2 9.5 with Aldila Rogue Stiff shaft. I didn't buy it because well its $500.

  6. What's the most underrated equipment in your bag? Is there something in your bag that maybe hasn't gotten a ton of love in the golf community either with players or reviews? For me I am finding that Adams made some really great equipment especially right before the Taylormade purchase of them. I bought a brand new Adams XTD Ti 3 wood and 5 wood for $30 bucks each...got an Adam Pro Red hybrid for $40 and have the XTD Ti Driver in route to the house purchased for $50. I am really amazed at these items...great sound and plenty hot...great stock Matrix shafts as well....what are your thoughts?

  8. How are we not talking about this yet? Big win for Srixon but it was awesome to see how close all the top drivers were. As always, a great test for MGS and probably the reason a lot of people started on this site in the first place (and for the free stuff). Thoughts? Surprises?
  9. I purchased in February 2016, my new driver Callaway XR16 10.5 ° shaft Fujikura speeder evolution 565 red graphite 59 gr. flex R - SW D3. Attached the shaft specifications. My swing speed with the new driver (set 12.5 ° draw) is between 90-95 mph with slightly negative angle of attack, smash factor 1.35-1.45, carry about 200-210 y. I hit enough to the center and the ball flight is good enough. I go quite right although I tend sometimes to take the hook. Normaly I use Callaway supersoft or Titleist pro v1. I am increasingly convinced that the lack of distance depends not only from my swing, but also from the shaft. Have you to suggest me an alternative shaft that can afford to be longer? Thanks in advance for your welcome suggestions. 2016 Speeder Evolution Technical Specs.pdf
  10. Hello to all. I'm Italian and my name is Aurelio. I live in the Marche region, a wonderful place with a population of 1,500,000 inhabitants (Ancona, Loreto, Sirolo, Numana, Recanati, Urbino, Jesi, Macerata, Ascoli Piceno ....) but, unfortunately, with a single 18 holes golf course (Conero golf club). I play golf from 6 years but I was also very much interested in the equipments and technology, where you Americans are the undisputed masters. I hope you bear with me for my bad English.

  13. Toney Covey's Recent blog, titled as above, was a revelation for me. My driver SS is 90-100, hasn't changed in years. The M1 is the longest driver I ever hit: avg 230 total with 220 carry, capable of 250-260. My M1-460cc is 9.5* with the stock Fujikura Pro60 Stiff. At neutral settings, I hit it 200, but increasing loft setting 2* got me 30 more yds. Only problem was, increasing loft on an M1 automatically closes the face; the two adjustments are inseparable. The 2* uploft closed the face 4*. No way to prevent it. So, to get 30 more yards of distance, I had to fight a pull hook all day. For 30 more yds? You bet! Then along comes Toney's article. So i moved both weights to the extreme rear, moving CG back. This increased dynamic loft, higher trajectory, more distance -- maybe. But the amazing thing was it eliminated side spin! The club is now a point-and-shoot howitzer. I now step into the tee box with confidence my drives are going to go and finish at least in the general vicinity of where I'm aiming. Apparently rear club weighting is a good thing, and I'm looking for my lead tape. Anybody out there have a similar experience?
  14. Hey Everyone, Just looking for any advice possible here. I have a match play tournament coming up and want to get back to my normal scores, been much too high lately. I am usually around the 85-90 range on 18. Handicap is currently at a 13.3 index, but lately have been playing much higher than that. My swing was much better to begin this year and now i'm about 10 rounds in and its almost as if I'm getting worse. My drives are getting away from me and starting to slice (I'm a lefty) so always on the left side rough whereas I was splitting fairways to begin. Anything out of the fairway at my club puts me in jail so my game has really been suffering with the tee box troubles. Does anyone else have this issue? Swing feels great to start the year and then starts getting away from them? I don't feel as though im overthinking anything while swinging, just something mechanical. Any tips or advice you guys have on what I can try or what to work on to help straighten this out? Thank you!

    Arccos

I think this Arccos driver tech is very cool and a lot easier to use than the 14 club stat trackers (although if they made the data management and analysis slick and user friendly then I would love to try it, but for the current price I am not that interested). Direct bluetooth to your cell is much better than those belt sensors and if you carry you can probably leave your phone in the bag. However, does anyone know how it registers your second shot to determine driver distance? If you set your bag down because your playing partner is stick handling up the fairway how does it know you aren't at your shot. Same goes if you are carting. The passive, background data collection is ideal, but I am just trying to figure out how it works. Any thoughts?
  16. My goal was to get out and play today to give a full review of this driver on the course but the weather has been so cold and rainy that it hasn't been possible yet. Instead I took the driver up to Golfsmith to get on their launch monitors and at least have some numbers to post. It took me a little while to get warmed up since I haven't swung a club in a few weeks but overall the club performed extremely well for me. I am very pleased with how low the spin stayed since I normally have a hard time getting below 3000 rpm's. I usually swing around 100 mph and currently play to a 3.8 handicap. My shot shape is pretty straight overally but I tend to favor a slight fade so my spin numbers are usually a little higher. I was a little scattered with my impact position on the face as you can see from my picture but for not playing in so long, I wasn't too upset. The driver shaft length was a little long (almost 46") and the swingweight was around D5. I usually prefer no longer than 45" and a swingweight of D2. The sound was a little hollow sounding but nothing obnoxious at all. It may also have sounded differently because I was in the fitting area indoors. Overall my averages were: Clubhead Speed: 100 mph Ball Speed: 145.6 mph Launch Angle: 14.7 degrees Backspin: 2298 rpm Total Spin: 2352 rpm Total Carry: 250.2 yards Total Distance: 274.19 yards Offline: 5 Yards Given these numbers I'm pretty excited to see what it does out on the course. I'm sure using real golf balls my spin will decrease some compared to whatever they have in the fitting area. Once I got home I shortened the shaft down to 45" and added a few grams of hot melt through the screw weight port. This should help the sound quite a bit and gave me my desired swingweight after I cut it down.
  17. Again. And again. And again.
  18. As I was reading the excellent Paderson Kinetix shaft reviews, I came across the discussion concerning Spin created off the Driver. Thanks to Jason from Paderson for the following post: Technical Time Out! Relative to lesser of the oblique impacts, driver, fairway, hybrid: 1. Translating up the face, (sliding) will increase spin. The affect is linear in terms of compressive loading. 2. The greater the distance the ball slides prior to the point of separation, the greater it will spin. 3. Luberous coatings, lower the coefficient of friction! The lower the coefficient of friction, the less distance the ball will travel (compressively load) up the face. The rounder the ball will remain, the less it will spin. The greater energy it has to project = higher ball speed lower spin. 4. COR is a measurement of loss. Contrary to marketing, the "spring-like" affect is in fact, face compliance in the normal direction. IT IS NOT possible for a passive unsupported face (as found in all USGA compliant drivers) to rebound in time, during the secong half of the impact event, so as to trampoline the ball outbound. We do however tailor face compliance, to minimizing ball travel, reducing the quantity of deformation in the ball (compression / flattening) over the impact event. This will achieve a rounder golf ball, higher outbound ball speed at the point of separation. The higher the COR in a driver or HOT fairway metal, the greater the face deflection. The more the face complies, the less the ball will flatten. 5. Conversely, with oblique impacts, say wedges, whereby high spin is the desired affect. We tailor clubheads around material hardness. The harder the face (head) material, the greater the affective force load of impact, regardless of swing speed. The Harder the face, the more the ball will compressively load in the face normal direction, the less the ball will travel up the face, the greater it will spin. In conjunction with faces having inherently higher coefficient of friction and face and groove spec (latter within USGA' defined guidelines) work to channel moisture, affectively creating "rolling friction". My question to be ponderd is this: My old wooden driver had grooves on the face......Why don't the modern metal drivers have grooves on the face? Would this eliminate slippage up the clubface thereby reducing spin and providing for more distance?
