  1. Anyone have any ideas or concrete info on whether or not the manufacturers and retailers are going to fire sale the equipment? Or will manufacturers just hold their new releases for another year? There was an article on this a while back but wanted to hear if there are new ideas. I remember back in 2008 or 2009 Callaway gave me free fairway metal when I bought a Diablo driver. I’m looking for new irons and might be prompted to buy if the $1500-$1200 price point comes to sub $999. Thoughts?
  2. I swing the driver at about 95-100 mph and carry about 260 yards. I slice the ball so anything that would minimize that would help The most important thing I am looking for in a ball would be 150 yards and in, I like something that feels kind of soft off of the putter (I use Evnroll er5) and I don't mind some roll out on pitch shots. I use M6 irons I want to spend no more than 20-30$ a dozen. Currently I use the Srixon Q star tour as I get 40% off of all Srixon equipment for college club golf. However, I would say my favorite golf ball at the moment is chrome soft with
  3. Is it fair to call them the No. 1 iron, driver, wedge in golf? Some notes below from a press release on just how domimate Titleist is on tour this year. PGA: It was a Titleist Brand Ambassador 1-2-3 finish at the regular season-ending Wyndham Championship, where Titleist Brand Ambassador J.T. Poston earned his first career PGA TOUR victory … Poston finished one shot clear of Webb Simpson and two better than Ben An … Viktor Hovland (Pro V1), finished solo 4th, another shot back … Closing with a career-best eight-under par 62 en route to a tournament record-tying 22-un
  4. Hey Y'all, First time to the forum and I'm starting this thread fairly selfishly, but could be cool to see what everyone's recommendations for upgrades would be! Currently playing a set of Mizuno MP60's that I bought used about 10 years ago....long time. I always buy used clubs cause prices are just too crazy for me (still waiting on that lottery ticket to hit for that custom fitting experience). My question is: What would be y'all's recommendations for an iron set that's comparable to the MP 60's (I love the thin topline and forged heads), but a newer set would make me fe
  5. Spent a couple of hours this afternoon at the Tampa Bay Golffest event. A really nice though not especially large demo day event hosted by Tampa Bay Downs. Had a chance to hit some of the new offerings out there in the marketplace and some potential GolfSpy test candidates. Hit several drivers. The new Mizuno ST, Ping G410, Wilson Cortex, and Cobra F9 Speedback. Keeping in mind it wasn't full fitting for each, but the reps did ask enough questions to get you close enough spec wise so you were hitting something close to your current gamer. Of the 4, my least favorite was the Mizuno, it ju
  6. There are some good articles and forums showing off Puma's new Ignite NXT line, like this one: But not much in the way of reviews yet. Has anyone tried the Solelace on course or at the driving range? How would you rate it (bonus points if you have used a disc model before and can compare)? I have a new pair of the Disc sitting in my office right now because that's (somewhat) proven technology, but I like the look of the Solelace better, so I keep looking down at them debating an exchange (but I'm skeptical... seems like it could be gimmicky). We have about 3 months until golf season
  7. Just curious, but about how often does everyone upgrade their equipment? Personally, I change different components at different rates. For example, I upgrade my driver and woods about every 3 years, my wedges every two years, but I don't really change my putter, irons or hybrids ever. I have been playing the same Adams a12 pro irons since 2011, and I played a set of Cleveland TA 4's for years before making a change. I know part of changing equipment is dictated by how many rounds you play since that will dictate wear and tear (I probably play about 20-25 rounds a year), but is wear th
  8. I'm finally stoked about all my wrenches; so it's time to share WITB. My current pony is a 12 year old Ping Freestyle that refuses to quit. TMaG M1 430 (Matrix Q5 Red Tie currently undergoing rigorous testing for your spying pleasure); King Cobra S9-1 Pro; Nickent 3DX Ironwood Adams Idea MB2 3-PW on mythical Matrix Program 130s; Cleveland 588 RTX 52.10, 56.12 Macgregor Bobby Grace V-Foil M5K-GT The essential odds and ends: burlap bag formerly protecting a bottle of Tito's now holds golf balls and yes, Imodium A-D is essential equipment...that hopefully expires long before you
  9. A little over a month ago, TaylorMade and Rory debuted Rory's custom built clubs, the Rors Proto irons. I was wondering if anyone has come across some performance numbers for the irons like ball speed, spin, carry? It would simply be eyebrow-raising to see what numbers these clubs generate under Rory's swing. Maybe if someone has come across Rory's iron play numbers over the past month or so, that'd be super neat to study. Of course they're not production irons which hinders pretty much any possibility to gain numbers of them, but can't hurt to try! -Thanks! Swing easy.
  10. **SOLD**** Getting rid of a Cobra King LTD Pro driver. This is the version that goes from 7-10 degrees. It's in excellent shape. There are no major scratches, just some normal wear on bottom. I tried to show all sides of the head in the photos. The length is standard. It has a white, midsize Tour Wrap grip. Aldila Rogue Black 60 stiff. I don't have the tool or headcover. $175 shipped Paypal only. contact me for more info: surfandturfdan@gmail.com Thanks guys!
  11. I recently went to the local DI (a thrift store we have here in the West) and found some great clubs. My set is pretty complete, but I added them to a set I have for people to borrow and things like that. For about 25 bucks I got: A Taylormade RocketBallz Hybrid 3 - $5.00 A Taylormade R7 3 wood - $5.00 A ping Craz-e putter - $5.00 A Taylormade Rossa Mezza putter - $3.00 It was rare, because usually I just find random irons from the 70's and obsolete woods. I keep checking though because sometimes I find a unique putter or something. Anyway, I'm curious. What's the best thin

  13. You have $1200 to spend on a full set of clubs...used or new doesn't matter. You have to make a complete 14 club set. Driver, 3 wood, hybrids, iron set, wedges and a putter. How do you spend it? Watched Rick Shiels spend $500 on a full set used. Just wondering how you would allocate the funds. Which clubs would you choose? What club would be the most expensive? How would you decide?Figured this would be a fun exercise. Would you stick to the same brand? Would you mix and match?
  14. I'm sure I'm behind the times as I haven't been on the forum much lately, and I know it's near blasphemy to mention that name here, but did anyone actually flip through the Golf Digest Hot List issue? I happened to be in the dentist office yesterday and saw a copy of it so I flipped through it. Their take on the Kirkland ball, along with their new testing policy that is eerily similar to MGS', were both...interesting. Maybe this has already been discussed, or not even worth talking about, but to me it was one more example at the lack of transparency across all media. I hope MGS continu
  15. Hey Everyone, My name is Terry Wittek. I am a local insurance agent in South Florida: business, home, auto and beyond. I play at many different private clubs in Palm Beach County, so if you are interested in getting an invite, let me know.
  16. The picture have been circulating of the new i200's....anyone heard whether it's just another iron range that Ping will be releasing or will they be releasing woods as well or they sticking with the G range for this year?
  17. Hey all, it is nice to see comments and likes when a member posts an equipment review. I was just wondering how effective they are. Has anyone actually made a purchase based upon the product reviews posted on My Golf Spy? Kindly post your thoughts here......Let us know what you purchased and what it was in the review that helped you make that decision.
  18. Fellow golfers: The TL/DR version: At what point at the bottom of the talent and skill scale is the quality of the club irrelevant to the golfer's ability (assuming a basic level of quality)? The full version: I love this game. I've been playing for four months, finally, and I'm taking lessons and have the kind of life where I can either play, get to a driving range, practice putting, practice chipping and pitching, or any combination of these things every day. As a beginner, I bought a decent set of used clubs, including a driver, wedges, woods, and a putter. All good ge
  19. Well, I wasn't much of a floor reporter while I was in Orlando. I'm not in the habit of taking pictures with my phone, nor can I really type more than brief texts with it and I wasn't exactly in "shopping mode" while I was attending. I was primarily in Orlando for the golf, more than any interest in equipment changes. I'm actually surprised I made a purchase at all, which should indicate why I'm particularly impressed with this product. As I've mentioned on other posts, I started having tendon problems in my hands last season and started experimenting with different club grips and glo
  20. For how long has "demand" been a rating category in Golf Digest's Hot List? The 2016 list is absurd. All the "demand" stars go to the largest brands, which make the difference between gold and silver in aggregate. I'm sorry if I am repeating what everyone already complains about here but this is my first hot list as a MGS member and am curious what the community thinks about this. Also, I'm pretty sure I'veread every single comment about every single club this year, and NONE of them were negative, none. Some were more positive than others, but every tester liked every club? Come on..
  21. Wow. just had a look on the MGS blog about TM's new iron and there are some pretty scathing remarks. Thought I was reading a WRX review or something it was so scathing. Whilst I understand TM haven't done themselves any favours it is still sad to see the fall from grace that they are undergoing. How the mighty have fallen.
  22. Nice and easy now.
