  1. TESTERS ANNOUNCED! Cleveland's New RTX-3 Wedges While it's true that you drive for the show and you putt for the dough, few can argue that it's those 125-yard and in shots that can determine just how much dough you're putting for. Want to sink more putts? Hit it closer to the hole. And Cleveland says its new RTX-3 wedges can help you do just that. Testers Wanted The Cleveland RTX-3 wedge series hits the stores next Friday. Cleveland says its new wedges help bring more consistency and better accuracy to your game, primarily by moving the RTX-3's center of gravity closer to the center of the clubface. In addition, Cleveland says the RTX-3's new sole grinds will allow you to pick just the right wedge makeup for your swing and for the types of courses you play. MyGolfSpy is looking for 5 wedge-savvy short game savants to test these new babies out and find out if the RTX-3's are worthy members of the Cleveland family tree of wedges. If selected, you'll get to test (and keep) a 3-wedge set fit to your specifications. How To Apply: We take our equipment testing very seriously here at MyGolfSpy, so please read - and follow - these instructions carefully: In this thread, tell us the following: 1. Your name, home state and current handicap 2. Your current wedge brand and lofts If selected to test and review these wedges for MyGolfSpy, you'll be encouraged to visit a nearby Cleveland Wedge fitter and be fit using the Cleveland Wedge Analyzer. Cleveland will customize your 3-wedge set to your specs. Good luck!!!
  2. I'm a new member but a long time follower. These tests offered is a real incentive to get active in My golf Spy. I'm originally from Texas but have retired to my wife's home state of Ohio. I have never seen the number of daily fee golf courses that are located within a 30 minute drive as I have seen here. My big complaint is not being able to play 12 months a year. So now I go back down to Houston to visit my kids and grand-baby during the Winter months so I can at least play a couple of times in the Winter months. I am a authorized dealer for Pure grips out of Arizona and have an eBay store called C's Grips & More. I just recently picked up the Piretti Putter line and will be setting up distribution here in Ohio as well as selling on eBay. Obviously I love the game of golf and want to do my part introducing new people to the game.
  3. Awesome - I like the increased grind options and am a huge fan of bringing the snake emblem to the wedges... I haven't gamed Cobra wedges before, but these are definitely intriguing. Thoughts? What would it take to move you from your current wedge line-up?

  5. How have you gone about choosing the grinds on your wedges? Have you been fitted? How did they determine the grind for you based on your fitting? Have you just done trial and error? When it comes to wedges they may be the most important clubs in your bag next to your putter for cutting strokes and lowering your handicap. So in looking to pick up another wedge set I am wondering how to go about picking grinds? Is it possible to figure this out without hitting the shots you would on the course?
  6. If the hype about the new MP 25 irons from Mizuno is true my search for irons with feel & "distance" may be over when they are released in September. Mizuno claim that by using Boron along with their grain forged technology they have been able to add up to 7 yards in distance to the new irons. The 25's have been released as direct replacements for the MP 54's which as you all no doubt know that is what I am gaming and have been sort of looking for a longer set of clubs without resorting to the game improvement, loft jiggered irons on steroids type club. The 25's are also apparently more compact than the 54's which apparently appeals more to the better player. I must admit I've never really understood that angle but to each their own. Also being released soon is the S series wedges. These wedges are supposed to be somewhere between a game improvement wedge and your traditionally forged models already part of the Mizuno line. Wedges are something else I've been sort of looking for too. I've picked up lots of club whoring techniques since joining this forum and I am thinking of checking into rehab as soon as possible after purchasing a set of MP 25's, and matching S series wedges oh and a cute little Mizuno putter I spotted at the local Muni course pro shop yesterday
  7. FROM THE BLOG 2015 Bridgestone J15CB, J15DF and J15DPF Irons + J15 Wedges http://www.mygolfspy.com/2015-bridgestone-j15cb-j15df-and-j15dpf-irons/ 2015 equipment is just around the corner and we've now seen what Bridgestone looks to be offering in the iron and wedge department. Are you seeing anything thus far that makes you want to rush out and try them when released? Do you think it's been too long since we've seen any substantial from Bridgestone for anyone to actually notice? Let us know your thoughts.
  8. Vokey Design SM5 Wedges with Tour-Preferred Raw Finish Now Available through WedgeWorks Tour-proven, Customizable Models Available Beginning July 8 on Vokey.com Titleist Vokey Design Spin Milled 5 wedges, the #1 wedges on the PGA Tour, are now available in the tour's preferred finish: Raw. Previously reserved for the best players in the world through the Titleist Tour Van or Vokey Tour Department, Vokey Design SM5 Raw wedges can be ordered and customized through WedgeWorks on Vokey.com beginning July 8. “Raw means there is no additional finish applied to the wedge, which is made of 8620 carbon steel,” Master Craftsman Bob Vokey said. “It has what I like to call a satin appearance that will start to rust after some use. “On tour, the Raw heads give us the flexibility to grind wedges based on a player's needs,” Vokey said. “But guys just love the look of that raw steel – some players like it even more as it rusts, kind of like a trusty hammer or another tool. These are their scoring tools.” Jordan Spieth, the reigning Masters and U.S. Open champion, has trusted Vokey Design wedges since his junior golf days. Spieth now carries four Vokey SM5 Raw models (46º F, 52º F, 56º S and 60º L). “It's always been a confident feeling for me looking down at a Vokey wedge, knowing that Bob and Aaron (Vokey Tour Rep Aaron Dill) have me dialed in. I've been playing four Vokeys for years now – always with the Raw finish. I love the look and the feel of the raw metal, especially when they start rusting.” Many tour pros, including PGA Tour players Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson, have also commented on the Raw finish reducing glare that might reflect off the wedge on bright days. “The Raw finish is perfect for me,” Walker said. “I have never liked glare coming off my irons or wedges and I even have a matte finish on my metal woods. I've played black wedges and copper-finished wedges in the past because of that, but have been playing Vokey Raw consistently for several years now with great success.” Added Johnson: “I've played Vokey wedges for as long as I can remember, and switched to Raw early in 2007. I love the look of the Raw, plus I don't have to worry about being distracted by any reflection from the sun.” Vokey Design SM5 Raw wedges are offered in four lofts from 54º to 60º and three of Vokey's most popular sole grinds – S, M and K. In total, there are 10 loft/bounce/grind combinations. Among the models is the 56•10º S grind, played by Spieth and many tour players around the world. As part of WedgeWorks, every SM5 Raw wedge can be customized, including personalized stamping in up to six characters and one of 12 paintfill colors. Golfers can also choose from an industry-leading selection of shafts, grips, shaft bands and ferrules. SPIN MILLED 5 PERFORMANCE: Vokey Design SM5 wedges are the best performing wedges in the game, a result of Bob Vokey's decades of research and collaborating with the world's best players combined with the Titleist R&D team's development of proprietary Spin Milled technology. Since 2004, Vokey Design wedges have been the #1 wedge on the PGA Tour and the most played wedge at every level of competitive golf. Vokey SM5 wedges are designed with deep Spin Milled TX3 grooves that deliver maximum spin for precision trajectory and distance control and improved greenside performance. TX3 grooves produce additional backspin by channeling away grass and sand for improved contact between the ball and groove edge. Spin Milled technology also provides trajectory and distance control through precisely milled grooves and machined face texture, significantly reducing the chance of “flyers” from the rough. TOUR-PROVEN SOLE GRINDS: Every sole grind in the SM5 family has been derived from Bob Vokey's work with the best players in the world. The M grind, Vokey's original tour grind, is a versatile design currently played by many tour pros including Jimmy Walker and Charley Hoffman. The M grind has a crescent-shaped sole with relief in the heel, toe and trailing edge. This provides a forward bounce surface suitable for square shots while the relief encourages shotmaking by allowing players to rotate the face open without the leading edge coming off the ground. The moderate effective bounce makes it playable in a variety of short-game conditions.
The S grind was inspired by Steve Stricker, who likes to play his wedges in a square position, with minimal wrist action, and the shaft neutral or leaning away from the target. The full sole with moderate heel relief and a medium ribbon ground along the trailing edge provides stability for full shots, additional bounce for bunker play and the versatility to hit different types of shots around the green. The K Grind was born out of Vokey's work with several players, including Adam Scott and Jason Dufner. The K grind has a wider, more cambered sole than any other Vokey model. The wide sole makes this wedge very easy to use out of the bunker, while the camber enhances the playability for a variety of shots around the green. PERSONALIZATION AND CUSTOMIZATION: SM5 Raw wedges can be given the tour-level treatment through WedgeWorks with an extensive selection of custom options. Personalized hand-stamping is available in up to six letters and/or numbers and one of 12 paintfill colors. Characters are stamped in one of three styles – Straight, Freestyle or Snow (two-character limit). Golfers can also choose from seven different custom shaftbands and three ferrule options. BV custom grips, available in a variety of textures and colors to match a player's look and feel preferences, are exclusive to WedgeWorks. A high-performance shaft matrix includes wedge-specific shafts such as the Dynamic Gold Spinner and KBS Hi-Rev. The full complement of the Titleist custom shaft matrix is also available including graphite and lightweight shafts. WedgeWorks wedges can be laser etched on the shaft with up to 20 characters or numbers, offering an easy way to highlight a birthday, event or a player's full name. All Vokey Design wedges can be adjusted for length, loft and lie angle. Weight porting on the back of the wedge to dial in a specific swingweight is also available. SM5 RAW LOFT/BOUNCE/GRIND MATRIX: 54º: 54.10 S, 54.10 M 56º: 56.10 S, 56.10 M 58º: 58.07 S, 58.08 M, 58.11 K 60º: 60.07 S, 60.08 M, 60.11 K *Note: SM5 Raw S and K grind models are RH only. PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: Vokey Design SM5 Raw wedges are available beginning July 8 through WedgeWorks on Vokey.com or by custom order, starting at $180 plus personalization. 9. I am selling a set of the newest Cleveland RTX 2.0 wedges in 50, 54, 58 degrees of loft. They are in the Cleveland Black Satin finish which I think is gorgeous. All clubs are intermediate bounce (2 dots = 10 bounce) with standard wedge flex dynamic gold steel shafts. The clubs are all in like new condition and have only been hit during one round of golf last week. These wedges retail at $129.99 each. I am selling the set for $250 as a whole. If anyone is interested in buying single clubs I'll sell individuals for $90. Please see attached pics and message me with any questions or offers. Thanks Beau
  10. So Mr_Theoo and I caught wind of a brand new Golf Galaxy opening up here in good ol' Ohio. Since its still like 2* outside (I saw 50* for the forecast next week!) there wasn't much else to do so we decided to go check it out. Mr_Theoo will have more info on the store and some of the other things we tested. It's funny that any of this happened today. Theoo and I met up for breakfast before we went to Golf Galaxy and most of our conversation revolved around the putter that xMassacrex recently bought and posted from Edel and how we wished there was an Edel fitter closer to us because we both loved the look and the story behind xMassacrex's putter. I'm also in the market for new wedges and really wanted to try the Edel wedges too. I know that Edel has been getting a lot of coverage on MSG lately and after my experience today I think they 100% deserve every bit of it they are getting. So we show up and Theoo was talking about the putting green he had heard of and that it was huge so we start wandering over in that direction. In the distance I see a very nice display with the word Edel on the side. I look at Theoo and ask him if he sees what I see. (He didn't. I swear I had to point it out to him about 3 times before he finally saw it.) So in our excitement we head over there to check it out. We were met by a gentleman who had an Edel shirt on who smiled and introduced himself. His name was Bobby Dean. So we start talking to him (at this point the display was still buttoned up) about putters and mentioned xMassacrex's and he knew exactly what we were talking about. Side note – I starting talking to him about xMassacrex's story and he said that the person who posted it was really not supposed. I mentioned how cool I thought it was that xMassacrex saw his putter, thought how he wished it was his, only to find out that it was. A little about Bobby directly from the Edel website: Bobby Dean Director of Business Development Bobby took up the game of golf at a very early age in West Texas. He began his career in golf in 2002 by studying under Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructor and Golf Digest Top 10 Teacher Chuck Cook at Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas. Bobby was recruited by Edel Golf for his expertise in instruction, club fitting, and club design. Bobby became an Edel Certified Fitter in November 2004 and has since trained and developed over 90% of Edel's fitting and sales accounts worldwide. Bobby continues to play the lead domestic and international business development role at Edel in addition to serving as head club fitter and overseeing the training and development of new Edel Certified Fitters across the U.S. and the world. Anyways – after talking for a little while he asks if we'd like to get fit. Uhh yes please! Theoo was up first. I took him a total of about 20 minutes to fit him. They look at many components while fitting. The first thing Bobby did was have Theoo grab a putter that was a close comparison to the one he games. He puts a mirror on the face of it and has him line up facing a green laser as in the picture below. The laser reflects off the putter face onto the black backdrop to show where you're aiming at alignment. From there he adjusts the actual putter head type, the lie angle, the hosel, the offset, etc. Once he has the laser directly in the center of the backdrop its time to weight the putter. To do this Bobby had him hit a string that he had laid out and the goal was the stop the ball at the string. When everything is said and done he gives you your measurements and you are free to order from them. It's a very cool process. Bobby did the same thing for me although it took him about 30 minutes to fit me. I was apparently more difficult. I haven't felt a putter like that ever (granted I've never been fit). However, that's not where the fun ended. We also told him that we had always wanted to hit the wedges but same story, because there isn't anywhere close we couldn't. Luckily for us, he brought a few along just incase anyone inquired. He took about 20 minutes or so with us on the range to help us figure out the grind we should be looking at based on our swings. I have to say that I'm in love with the putter and I will (once the funds are in place) invest in an Edel putter sometime soon, however, the wedges are what really won me over. I've hit all sorts of wedges but I've never hit a wedge that felt as crisp and right as this. I'm a very steep player so I tend to take beaver pelts with most of my wedges. I also have a tendency to chunk my wedges quite a bit as well. He put me into the digger grind and oh man that thing is amazing. I can't wait to purchase a few wedges from them as well. It was a very eventful day and I will say that Bobby from Edel is an absolute gentleman and a scholar. If you ever get the chance to work with him at all you will not be disappointed. I will also say that if you are in the market for a putter or a wedge anytime to try and find a fitter. If you have to drive I'd even say that its worth it at this point. I'm really not trying to sound like a homer but everything they do and put they name on is really top notch. The only thing we weren't able to hit were the irons. We're trying to talk Bobby into bringing them back to Columbus at some point but we'll see if that happens. If they are anything like what I hit today I have to image that they are awesome!
  11. KBS Golf Shafts has added two wedge-specific steel shafts to its line and will debut the new products at the upcoming PGA Merchandise Show and Demo Day, Jan. 20-23, in Orlando, Fla. “We've gone outside the box designing shafts specific for scoring clubs,” said Kim Braly, head of R&D and Tour operations at KBS Golf Shafts. “They are some of the most important- if not the most important- clubs in a player's bag.” Over two years in development, the new KBS 610 WEDGE Shaft is designed to deliver penetrating ball flight with less spin. The shaft's stiffer butt section combined with the KBS signature step down configuration enhances shot making for the skilled player. This shaft is available in three flexes, from 110-125g. “Our overall goal with these two shafts is to create a wedge-concentrated shaft category,” said Braly. “Wedge shafts are commonly overlooked and we are aiming to tackle this issue, beginning with the HI-REV 2.0 and 610 WEDGE.” The HI-REV 2.0, an updated and improved version of the current HI-REV shaft, features an active tip section that increases the effective loft of the club head. Golfers can expect a higher ball launch with more spin for added stopping power. The HI-REV 2.0 is available in three flexes, from 115-135g. Both shafts will be available for inspection and testing, along with the full KBS product line, at the PGA Merchandise Show Outdoor Demo Day, Tuesday, Jan. 20, Tee #5, Orange County National Golf Center, in Winter Park, Fla. --- I like that they are committing to a wedge category and offering a low and high spin option. Barbajo - can you go and test these please!

  14. RENEGAR Rx14 Wedges I'm sure if I were to ask the hardcore "Golf Gear Head" if you remembered the name Solus Golf, you would all say YES. They made one hellova wedge. Still carry one in my bag to this day. But there are far, far too many that not only never heard of wedge but even more that never got the experience playing one. These types of products...one of the reasons I originally started MyGolfSpy. They needed to be given a chance, they needed a level playing field. I don't care what the name on a bottom of a club is and neither should you. Solus made a not only a beautiful wedge but one that performed. So you might be asking, who the hell is Renegar Golf? Basically...Solus on steroids. Why am I talking about Solus and Renegar together? Well the same man was behind both of them. His name is Bob Renegar, and he held the design patent on the Solus wedge and the utility patent on the Renegar wedge. The path to success for Bob has been a struggle he'll be the first to admit, but its not because his design is lacking and definitely not for a lack of passion. Nothing more I love than passion, I try to put myself around it daily. And there isn't a phone call I have with Bob, that doesn't fill my tank to the brim with just that. There is a lot more to this story and I can't wait to tell you guys all about it, but for now here are some pics of a couple of his wedges that just arrived to the shop. VISIT WEBSITE
