I've read a few threads on the 5w vs. 3w debate; and the prevailing thought that, for a good many, 3w's are just harder to hit. I bag the G400's with Alta CB shafts and can hit both pretty reliably, though the 5w a little more so. Both are set at nominal loft. My carry with the 3w is 185-195 and the 5w 170-180. I've noted a few suggesting to use a 3w length shaft in a 5w. This will be easy enough to test, but I'm curious how many are actually gaming this set-up? Ultimately, I'm finding myself using the 3w quite a bit on several courses I play. I'm on the hunt for another 10-15 yards carry as those same courses/holes are problematic getting GIR's w/o two coined strikes. My 4i is less reliable and pretty much ends up between these carry distances. Presuming a swap of the shafts simply gets my 5w carry same as my 3w, will the added shaft length reduce strike reliability - essentially robbing Peter to pay Paul? Maybe I'd be better looking for some hotter face fairway woods or perhaps a crossover iron (haven't even looked at/tested this option)... but these PING's sure are the easiest to hit off the deck I've tried so far.

Hate is a strong word, but I hate my fairway wood. It is the one club in my bag that is consistently a pain in the a$$, and I have often referred to that spot in my bag as the 'nemesis' slot. I can count the number of FWs I've hit well on one hand, and it remains to be seen if my current one will make the cut. But since I'm trying to quit swapping clubs just because it appears a club doesn't 'work' for me, I'm curious to hear others thoughts on this lovely club. So for those of you who have Stenson-like prowess when it comes to FWs, how did you get to that point? Aside from plenty of practice, what do you do that allows you to hit good golf shots with whichever flavor FW you use? I appreciate any and all feedback !

This was tweeted out by LondonOntarioGolf.com Air Force One Tees Up Air Foil Fairway WoodsAUGUST 3, 2016 BY:JEFFREYREED (COPYRIGHT 2016 LONDON ONTARIO GOLF) 0 COMMENTS PALM DESERT, CA (August 3, 2016) – Air Force One has unveiled its exciting new Air Foil fairway woods. Offered in a 15-degree 3-wood and 19-degree 5-wood, the Air Foil features technology that helps shots get airborne quickly and easily. Because fairway woods generally sport a shallower clubface, their trampoline effect is reduced. The Air Foil's dual slot wave design, however, creates an accordion effect: The thin face flexes inward at impact, initiating the buildup of Nitrogen pressure inside the clubhead. Then a trampoline effect takes place, as the face is thrust back to its original position at a high velocity to generate rocketing ball speed and increased distance. The club design increases how fast the face flexes at impact, promoting faster ball speed across the face, which promotes consistently longer distance on every swing. The dual slot wave design creates a high launch angle with a tight dispersion, making an ideal fairway wood design for players who have difficulty hitting a 3-wood off the fairway. To further enhance shot performance, the nitrogen valve is positioned to increase MOI and create an optimum launch angle. “Our brand is known for producing easy-to-hit equipment that increases ball speed for more distance,†says AFO President Ross Kvinge. “One thing we see is average players having a difficult time getting fairway wood shots up in the air. Thus, our goal in the Air Foil dual slot wave design and independent testing shows we achieved our goal. Add in the nitrogen-charged technology and we gave the new Air Foil a one-two punch for increased distance and accuracy.†Priced at $199.99 US apiece with Tour Grade shaft options, or at $149.99 US with an Air Force One Fujikura shaft, the Air Foil fairway woods employ the edge-to-edge sweet spot already known in the DFX driver that greatly enhances forgiveness on off-center hits. Through independent testing, the Air Foil proved to be one of the easiest fairway woods to hit off the deck, creating a high trajectory on-line to the target. About Air Force One Air Force One's mission is to make the game more enjoyable through our patented Nitrogen Charged Technology. Air Force One was born in America in 2009 and has achieved multiple consumer awards from major golf outlets such as MyGolfSpy and Golf Digest's Hotlist and is sold worldwide. Air Force One prides itself on its custom fitting and consumer guarantee (30-day performance guarantee) to ensure ultimate consumer performance and satisfaction on the course. Air Force One provides one of the largest selections of OEM shaft choices and custom fitting options. Has anybody hit these?
