  1. Did you guys get to check out the blog on the new wedges from Bridgestone today? Here's the link: https://mygolfspy.com/2018-bridgestone-tour-b-xw-1-wedges/ Couple of impressions -- I definitely prefer the black over the chrome - and so far the finish has held up perfectly. Not sure what they did to to it, but 8 rounds and some practice have shown no noticeable wear. As mentioned the blog - it's a low tech wedge. The forged feeling is wonderful, but if you struggle with wedges there's nothing here that will change that - but then again, the same can be said for pretty much anyone's wedges (we'll see about the Cleveland CBX wedges in less than a month!) KISB - or Keep It Simple Bridgestone: no bounce or grind options - what do you guys think about that? Seems like wedges are going all one way (crap tons of bounce, grind and sole options) or all the other (like Bridgestone). PING, as always, goes it's own way and is somewhere in the middle. Do you like more options or fewer options? And here are some pix that didn't make the cut....
  2. Gotta admit, this one caught me by surprise... Bridgestone is announcing its new Tour-level balls today - the Tour B line. The 12-year old B330 name is being retired - as a name it's not nearly as iconic as ProV or Chrome Soft - but still... Anyway, the details are here: https://mygolfspy.com/2019-bridgestone-tour-b-golf-balls/ What are your thoughts on the name change, the new balls and the switch in fitting approach - score/handicap as opposed pos wing speed?
  3. wbealsd posted this is another thread -- not sure if we've discussed it, but we should. Personally, I think this is brilliant! "I got an email from Bridgestone yesterday announcing that they're starting a demo program along these lines. Have you tried Bridgestone Golf's new Test Drive program? We ship new J15 demos to you! •Choose from over 100 unique sets with tons of shaft options •Enter your information and pay a small shipping fee to your desired delivery address •Try the clubs out for 21 days •Feel free to have your local fitter bend the clubs to your preferred lies/lofts ensuring the perfect fit •Re-package the clubs and send them back to Bridgestone using the INCLUDED pre-paid postage label It's that simple. Try today: http://testdrive.bridgestonegolf.com" Would you participate? If it's all free with shipping prepaid, what's the downside?
  4. Bridgestone Golf has given 20 MyGolfSpy Forum enthusiasts the opportunity to try out and review their current glove offerings. 5. From the InBox today.... Bridgestone is launching a new Tiger-centric ad campaign called "The Herd." I like the idea and the concept - it's an sound marketing message, but Tiger's health issues are taking a serious bite out its effectiveness, for the near term, anyway... Bridgestone Golf Debuts ‘The Herd' Marketing Campaign Featuring Tiger Woods (COVINGTON, GA) – Bridgestone Golf – innovator of premium golf balls, clubs and accessories – is amplifying its aggressive messaging with a new national marketing campaign featuring Tiger Woods that highlights the performance benefits of its products over other brands. Titled “The Herd,” a unique series of commercials on NBC/Golf Channel and across the web depicts the “herd-mentality,” common among consumers with notions that the best golf ball is the one played by the most Tour players. In contrast to this groupthink, the Bridgestone Tour B330 Series is touted as being 44% straighter and 6.9 yards longer than the Titleist ProV1 Series**. The spots are on Bridgestone Golf social channels and can be accessed here: http://bit.ly/2mpfRbo. More than 75 extras participated in the filming in South Africa, representing a mass of humanity scavenging a golf course for the most popular ball on Tour. What they find is Woods – who switched exclusively to the Bridgestone B330-S in December – hitting a tee shot while the narrator proclaims “you can't beat the pack by playing the same ball as the pack.” It concludes with the new slogan: “Dare to be better, Dare to Bridgestone.” “The imagery and language are bold, powerful and communicate how golfers need a break-away-from-the-pack mentality to gain a true competitive edge,” says Corey Consuegra, Senior Director of Marketing of Bridgestone Golf. “This is our first broadcast spot featuring Tiger Woods, the perfect iconic figure to carry the message.” Woods signed a multi-year agreement to play and promote Bridgestone's high-performance balls, selecting the Tour B330-S after thoroughly testing it against competing models from all major brands. Through his personal research, he determined the Bridgestone ball provided superior distance and accuracy off the tee for him, as well as optimal spin on shots into and around the green. Additional “break-a-way-from-the-pack” leaders include FedEx Cup champion Brandt Snedeker, Olympic bronze medalist Matt Kuchar, Masters winner Fred Couples, three-time major champion Nick Price and young phenoms Bryson DeChambeau and Hudson Swafford. The catalyst for distance and accuracy gains is the patented TOURcore (B330 & B330-S) and AMATOURcore (B330-RX & B330-RXS). Now six percent larger than the prior model, it produces even faster speed and less spin off the driver via Bridgestone's gradational core formulation. For increased greenside control, the B330 Series wears the breakthrough SlipRes cover, which increases stopping power without the usual negative effects of added driver spin. *Straighter claim and distance claim based on Bridgestone Golf ball fitting data of 13,434 fittings from February 2015 – September 2016. Actual results may vary. **Titleist ProV1 is a registered trademark of Acushnet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqHPiDR1yw8&feature=youtu.be
  6. Good to see Freddie in the Winner's Circle again -- love watching him play and absolutely love the rhythm and tempo of his swing. If it wasn't for the damn back injuries... Fred Couples Dominates at Chubb Classic Using Bridgestone Tour B330-S Golf Ball (COVINGTON, GA) – Fred Couples became the latest Bridgestone Golf staff player to capture a title in 2017, relying on the Tour B330-S ball to record a three-shot victory at the Chubb Classic this past weekend at TwinEagles Golf & Country Club in Naples, Fla. The 57-year-old carded a bogey-free final round of 67 to earn his 12th PGA Tour Champions win. With this performance, the World Golf Hall of Famer claimed the top spot in the Charles Schwab Cup standings. He trusted the B330-S to produce longer drives and better greenside spin in part due to Bridgestone's proprietary Tour Core and SlipRes Cover technologies. “Going into Sunday I knew I'd have to make as many birdies as possible to catch and surpass the field,” said Couples. “When you absolutely need to score it is imperative that you have complete confidence in your equipment, and I know my ball will do what I need it to from tee to green.” “Fred is not only a legendary player, but one of the most popular athletes in our sport and it's great to see him playing so well to start 2017,” says Angel Ilagan, President and CEO of Bridgestone Golf. “We separate ourselves from the competition by offering equipment that will make all players better, be they former Masters champions like Couples or the average weekend golfer.” Couples' win comes two months after the company signed Tiger Woods to a multi-year agreement to exclusively play and promote its high-performance balls. Woods also selected the Tour B330-S ball after thoroughly testing it against competing models from all major brands. Through his personal research, he determined the Bridgestone ball provided superior distance and accuracy off the tee for him, as well as optimal spin on shots into and around the green. FedEx Cup champion Brandt Snedeker, Olympic bronze medalist Matt Kuchar, three-time major champion Nick Price and young phenoms Bryson DeChambeau and Hudson Swafford have all won using Bridgestone products. Scores of fellow professionals – including 2016 winners on the PGA and LPGA Tours – choose to use Bridgestone balls without compensation. Engineered to perform optimally for highly skilled golfers, Tour players' findings align with what Bridgestone ball-fitting sessions with amateurs have proven. Data from these sessions show the B330-S is 36% straighter, 6 yards longer, and has more spin than ProV1****. The catalyst for distance and accuracy gains is the patented TOURcore, producing faster speed and less spin off the driver via Bridgestone's gradational core formulation. For increased greenside control, the B330-S wears the breakthrough SlipRes cover, which increases stopping power without the usual negative effects of added driver spin. *Straightness claim based on based on Bridgestone Golf fitting data of 1,622 fittings. Actual results may vary. **Distance claim based on Bridgestone Golf fitting data of 1,622 fittings. Actual results may vary. ***Spin claim based on third party testing with a 40-yard wedge shot. ****ProV1 is a registered trademark of Titleist.
  7. I'll try to get a closer look at these later today too.... FORGED FOR FORGIVENESS Covington, Ga. — Bridgestone Golf, the #1 ball-fitter in golf and a recognized industry innovator, announced today the launch of its new JGR Hybrid Forged Irons at the 2016 PGA Merchandise Show. The new Bridgestone JGR Hybrid Forged Irons use innovative technologies and materials to deliver longer distance and more forgiveness, while maintaining the buttery feel golfers have come to expect from forged irons. “Similar to how we identified a gap in the market and invented the category of Tour balls for amateur swings back in 2008, we noticed that there was major gap in the club market for players who wanted the feel of a forged iron, but needed more forgiveness,” said Josh Kinchen, Golf Club Marketing Manager, Bridgestone Golf, Inc. “Our solution is the JGR Hybrid Forged Irons. JGR Irons deliver unmatched forgiveness, launch and distance due to their incredibly low and deep center-of-gravity and face design.” The forgiveness and performance that the JGR Hybrid Forged Irons generate is achieved through three primary technologies: 1. Ultra-thin Face Design • Crafted from a proprietary metal alloy, Ultimate Strong Metal 2.0 features unparalleled tensile and yield strength in an ultra-thin (1.5mm) face for greater repulsion, forgiveness and longer carry distance. 2. Low and Deep Center-of-Gravity • Utilizing a unique wide-sole design that resists digging at impact, the center-of-gravity in the JGR irons is located in the extreme lower rear of the club, allowing for incredibly easy, high launching distance. 3. Turbo Rubber Composite Insert • Bridgestone's patented insert in the clubhead dampens vibration at impact, further enhancing its soft forged feel and saves discretionary weight to optimize perimeter-weighting forgiveness. The JGR Hybrid Forged Irons come standard in a set of 6-PW2 with both steel (Nippon™ NS Pro Zelos 8) and graphite (UST Mamiya™ Recoil) shaft options. Street Price for steel is $699 and for graphite it is $749. Custom shaft and grip options are available. The JGR Hybrid Forged Irons will be available at retail on March 4, 2016. 8. Successful hills are here to stay Everything must be this way Gentle streets where people play Welcome to the Soft Parade Seems as though every ball company out there has been grooving to The Doors, as another member joins the "Soft Parade." This came in today from Bridgestone... Bridgestone Golf Introduces Extra Soft Golf Ball Line Company Dares Golfers to be Better by Maximizing Distance with Excellent Feeling New Model (COVINGTON, GA) – Bridgestone Golf – Innovator and manufacturer of premium golf balls, clubs and accessories – today unveils the new Extra Soft golf ball series, available now at select retailers nationwide and bridgestonegolf.com. The Extra Soft ($21.99) provides maximum length on all shots for mid-to-high handicappers, without the harsh feel and feedback associated with many balls engineered to improve distance. An enhanced core design creates additional forgiveness off the tee, helping players consistently achieve longer, straighter drives. Extra Soft models will be offered in white, yellow and pink colors. “After more than a decade of performing golf ball fittings for players of all skill levels, we've learned that golfers have different needs, preferences and budgets,” says Adam Rehberg, Golf Ball Marketing. “With Extra Soft we've developed a ball that feels amazing, but doesn't sacrifice the distance or accuracy that is often seen as a drawback to playing a softer ball.” Separating Bridgestone from all other ball manufacturers is the company's unique and proven approach to new product development. It introduced a proprietary Ball Fitting system in 2007 and uses the data gathered to drive research and development. This real-world understanding of player needs was a catalyst in the creation of the company's most popular offerings, including the recently launched e6 SOFT and e6 SPEED series ($28.99 per dozen), as well as many more. In addition to the new Extra Soft, Bridgestone Golf designs a diverse portfolio of golf balls to meet the needs of all player performance characteristics, including the B330, B330S, B330RX, B330RXS, e6 SOFT, e6 SPEED, Powerdrive, Laddie Extreme, and Lady. More information on the company's ball, club and accessories offerings are available at www.bridgestonegolf.com.
  9. Sned's finally upgraded from his old Taylormade driver last weekend in Hawaii -- played pretty good, too. Here's the lowdown on the new Bridgestone JGR he put into play... SNEDEKER PUTS NEW DRIVER INTO PLAYCovington, Ga. — Bridgestone Golf, the #1 ball-fitter in golf and a recognized industry innovator, announced today the launch of its new JGR Driver. The new Bridgestone JGR Driver utilizes revolutionary technologies to deliver longer distance and more forgiveness. “We set out to make the JGR Driver our fastest and most forgiving ever,” said Josh Kinchen, Golf Clubs and Accessories Marketing Manager, Bridgestone Golf, Inc. “The engineers really outdid themselves, as the JGR is not only incredibly forgiving, but also extremely fast and high launching. Combine that with the ability to optimize spin for players of all skill levels, and we expect that this driver will turn a lot of heads this year.” The increased distance and forgiveness that the JGR Driver provides is achieved through 3 proprietary technologies: 1. F.A.S.T Crown · The Flex Action Speed Technology (F.A.S.T.) crown is extremely thin near the clubface and progressively thickens towards the club head rear to enable the crown to slightly flex at impact creating higher launch and increased repulsion where players impact the face of the club most often, above center. 2. speeDARC · A pair of internal arc-shaped ridges provides increased sole rigidity and better stability for the F.A.ST. Crown to flex against, leading to higher launches and extreme ball velocities. 3. Power Milled Face · Bridgestone's patented face milling pattern works to reduce the golf ball slippage and increased spin problem that all competitor drivers today face. The newly improved design has been enhanced for the JGR Driver. Milling is spaced further apart at the top of the driver face to maintain spin, while the milling is tighter and rougher at the bottom of the driver face to decrease spin on mishits. In addition, a new vertical milling pattern is utilized on the heel and toe of the face to further stabilize the ball on mishits. The milling combines to reduce spin (300 RPMs based on robot testing) for straighter and longer drives. Further enhancing the spin control of the JGR driver is a dual zone adjustable weighting system. The Heel weight can be modified to create a more piercing trajectory with lower spin, increased roll and more draw for longer distance. While the Center weight can be altered to increase trajectory for maximum carry distance. The JGR Driver made its PGA TOUR debut in the hands of Brandt Snedeker at the 2016 Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Maui, where he immediately showcased improved accuracy and distance, on his way to a T3 finish. The JGR is available in 9.5, 10.5, and 12-degrees of loft. JGR comes standard with the new Aldila™ NV 2KXV Orange driver shaft and custom yellow grip. Custom shaft and grip options are available. The JGR Driver will be available March 4, 2016, and has a street price of $299. Visit www.bridgestonegolf.com to learn more about Bridgestone Golf's 2016 plans and to view the comprehensive lineup of new products.
  10. Take a good look at Brandt Snedeker's bag tomorrow - we understand that he'll be bagging the new Bridgestone JGR 5 wood for The Masters. He and Kuchar are already bagging the driver, but Sneds will be adding the fairway wood to his bag this week. Not bad for a club Bridgestone did not intend to be used on Tour...

  13. Pretty impressive early season run for Snedeker and Bridgestone... SNEDEKER AND BRIDGESTONE'S NEW B330 PROVE TO BE UNFLAPPABLE AT WIND-BLOWN AND WET FARMERS OPENSnedeker Trusts Full Bag of Bridgestone Equipment To Overcome the Elements in 8th Career PGA TOUR Win Covington, Ga. — This weekend at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA, Bridgestone Golf tour team member Brandt Snedeker authored one of the most remarkable final rounds in PGA TOUR history, overcoming tropical storm-like winds and rain to grab his 8th career PGA TOUR title. Starting the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open six shots off the lead, Snedeker put his new 2016 B330 golf ball and JGR Driver to the test, overpowering the inclement weather and a challenging course setup to record a 3-under par 69 – not just the only round in the 60s, but also the only red number in the field during the final round. Making the win even more remarkable, Snedeker didn't play a shot in the event's rain-delayed finish, which was pushed to Monday, when weather conditions actually improved. “This was like playing a U.S. Open course in British Open conditions, I've never experienced anything like it,” said Snedeker. “I put the new B330 and JGR driver in my bag this year and the results bare out. Since I've put them in play I've finished 3rd, 2nd and 1st. That's pretty unbelievable stuff. That shows you how good the new stuff is and how confident I feel in it.” Snedeker showcased impressive driving, iron play and clutch putting to tame el Nino's 40-50 mph wind gusts and torrential rains that battered the California coast. In his victory, Snedeker trusted Bridgestone's new TOUR B330 golf ball, JGR Driver, J15 CB irons (4-PW) and J15 Forged Wedges (52-degrees and 56-degrees). In his first three starts of 2016, Snedeker has finished 3rd, 2nd and 1st. With the victory, Snedeker earned $1.17 million and vaulted himself into 2nd place in the early 2016 FedEx Cup standings. Brandt's Bridgestone Arsenal · 2016 TOUR B330 Golf Ball · JGR Driver · J15 Cavity Back Irons (4-PW) · J15 Forged Wedges (52 and 56 degrees) Snedeker's new ball and driver will be available at retail on March 4, 2016 and feature street prices of $45 per dozen and $299, respectively.
  14. The more I look at these, the more I like the looks...will get some in-hand pix of these today too.... These aren't adjustable -- what do you guys think of that? BRIDGESTONE ROLLS OUT ITS FASTEST FAIRWAY METALS AND HYBRIDS TO DATE Covington, Ga. — Bridgestone Golf, the #1 ball-fitter in golf and a recognized industry innovator, announced today the launch of its new JGR Fairway Metals and JGR Hybrids at the 2016 PGA Merchandise Show. The new Bridgestone JGR Fairways and Hybrids rely on revolutionary technologies to deliver faster ball speeds, higher launch angles and more overall distance than ever before. “The new JGR Fairways and Hybrids are without question Bridgestone's fastest fairways and hybrids ever,” said Josh Kinchen, Golf Club Marketing Manager, Bridgestone Golf, Inc. “Both offer players an unbelievable amount of forgiveness on mishits and impressive distance off the tee or the turf.” The new JGR Fairways achieve their performance through three primary technologies: 1. F.A.S.T. Crown • The Flex Action Speed Technology (F.A.S.T.) crown is extremely thin near the clubface and progressively thickens towards the club head rear to enable the crown to slightly flex at impact, creating higher launch and increased repulsion where players impact the face of the club most often, above center. 2. speeDARC • A pair of internal arc-shaped ridges provides increased sole rigidity and better stability for the F.A.S.T. Crown to flex against, leading to higher launch and extreme ball velocities. 3. Power Milled Face • Bridgestone's patented face milling pattern works to reduce the golf ball slippage and increased spin problem that all competitor fairways today face. The newly improved design has been enhanced for the JGR Fairways as milling is spaced further apart at the top of the fairway face to maintain spin, while the milling is tighter and rougher at the bottom of the face to decrease spin. A new vertical milling pattern has also been added to the heel and toe areas to further stabilize the ball on mishits. The JGR Hybrids also rely on F.A.S.T. Crown and speeDARC technologies to produce faster ball speeds and higher launch for more distance from a variety of lies, but do not include the Power Milled face in order to increase spin for these green attacking clubs. Further enhancing the spin control capabilities of the JGR Fairways and Hybrids are adjustable 10-gram weighting systems in the clubs' soleplates. The JGR Fairway is available in 15, 18, and 21-degrees of loft. The JGR Hybrid is available in 19, 21, 23 and 25-degrees of loft. Both the JGR Fairways and Hybrids come standard with the new Aldila™ NV 2KXV Orange shaft and custom yellow grips. Custom shaft and grip options are available. The JGR Fairway features a street price of $179 and the JGR Hybrid has a street price of $169. Both are available March 4, 2016. Visit www.bridgestonegolf.com to learn more about Bridgestone Golf's 2016 plans and to view the comprehensive lineup of new products.
  15. This is kinda surprising. The decision was made by Bridgestone Japan -- and has no connection with the US operation. Bridgestone Golf pulls plug on UK Today 11:34 By Chris Jones, Editor If you play a Bridgestone ball, stock up on boxes now – the Japanese company is pulling the plug on its UK operation. That means it will no longer sell any balls, clubs or accessories in the UK. The US operation – which includes sponsorship of PGA Tour stars like Brandt Snedeker and Matt Kuchar – will be unaffected. The brand, which makes the popular B330 tour balls and the e series of balls, says it has taken the decision because of “prevailing market conditions, currency fluctuations and the outlook for long term sales”. “Despite having lifted market share in the ball sector in the last three years, it has been determined that any future investment was unsustainable,” said UK Managing Director, Steve Kettlewell. Brigestone Golf (UK) will stop trading on February 29.

  18. KUCHAR RIDES HIS B330-S TO FIJI INTERNATIONAL VICTORYBridgestone Tour Staffer Overcomes Gale-Force Winds to Win Fiji International Covington, Ga. – This weekend at the Fiji International, Bridgestone Golf tour team star Matt Kuchar used impressive iron shots, clutch putting and some fun father-son time with his caddie-Dad Peter to fire a Sunday 69, taking the 2015 Fiji International title by four shots. In his victory, Kuchar trusted Bridgestone's Tour B330-S golf ball and J15 clubs on his way to a 4-under 284 in blustery conditions, making him the only competitor to finish under par for the tournament. The win in Fiji was Kuchar's twelfth worldwide professional victory of his career, first non-team international victory, and most important, the first with his father on his bag. Kuchar relied largely on the spin-killing gradational compression core and wind-cheating 330 seamless cover of his Bridgestone Tour B330-S ball to negotiate gale-force winds at Natadolo Bay Golf Club. Kuchar bested the field with an array of Bridgestone clubs in his bag, as well: Kuchar's Bridgestone Arsenal · TOUR B330-S Golf Ball · J815 Driver (9.5 degrees) · J15 Cavity Back Irons Black (5-PW) · J40 Black Oxide Wedges (52 degrees (bent to 51 degrees)) · Tour Premium Glove "Wow, what a cool experience for Matt to win a professional event with Peter on the bag,” said Corey Consuegra, Senior Director of Marketing – Bridgestone Golf, Inc. “Golf has long been a family affair for the Kuchars and we've enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Matt and his entire family, so seeing father and son enjoy this win together is particularly exciting for us. We are proud to have played a small part in such a special moment.” Visit www.bridgestonegolf.com to learn more about Bridgestone Golf's entire Tour Team and its comprehensive lineup of innovative products on which they rely.

  20. In this week's ‘5 Questions' we chat to Bridgestone Golf's Director of Golf Ball Marketing, Corey Consuegra. Thanks for taking the time to share a little more about yourself and Bridgestone Golf with MGSers, Corey! Tell us a bit about yourself Corey - how long have you been with Bridgestone Golf? How's your golf game? What's in your bag at the moment? I have had the privilege of working for Bridgestone Golf for the past 10 years. Our brand has gone from “middle of the pack” in the golf ball category to the #2 position as a result of hard work and our efforts to better understand the needs of consumers/amateurs. Ball Fitting has allowed us to speak directly with the golfers that are the game's lifeblood and as such we have developed product for a wide range of players from the beginner to the weekend warrior, to the avid golfer and the Pro. Sadly, my bag is in the midst of a major overhaul. As someone who needs more forgiveness (10hdcp), I will be making the switch from the J40 CB's to our new J15 Dual Pocket. They look amazing at address, but the minimal twisting at impact will keep the ball online longer. As for the driver, I will put the new J815 in the bag, again for maximum forgiveness. From a personal standpoint, I live in Covington, GA and have an amazing wife and 2 children (7yrs old and 5yrs old). I am a die-hard baseball fan and love to be outside fishing, running, hiking and just walking! In the US Bridgestone has been better known as a tire manufacturer than a golf equipment manufacturer - how difficult has it been over the last 10 years to establish Bridgestone Golf as distinct from Bridgestone? As a division of the largest rubber company in the world, we have had great success being associated with our tire division. We collaborate closely on golf related efforts including the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Performance Center events at 10-12 PGA Tour stops annually and for TV commercials with Matt Kuchar, Fred Couples and even David Feherty. At Bridgestone Golf, we leverage the parent company's expertise in rubber manufacturing and polymer science. In fact, we have 900+ engineers on staff who help with all facets of rubber development and that has helped Bridgestone Golf to create balls that fly farther, spin less off the tee, more around the green and be as aerodynamic as possible. At the end of the day, we are fortunate to be a part of such a unique and diverse brand. We use this to our advantage in all facets of our business and it is a privilege to be a part of an organization that puts its customers' needs first and never stops innovating. What can you share about the plans going forward for the North American market? In the US Market, we are studying consumers' needs and preferences closely, especially through our Ball Fitting program. Consumers are looking for even better feel off of all clubs without sacrificing distance and performance. There is usually a give and take relationship with soft golf balls for feel as they tend to sacrifice distance, but we are working hard to further engineer our core to deliver faster speeds while maintaining the best feeling compression level possible. As for our Ball Fitting program, we now have 25 teams around the US actively reaching 40,000-50,000 golfers annually. We recognize that there are millions of golfers around the US who need a custom fitting and may not be able to reach a live fitting. For this reason, we are expanding our online ball fitting program to be more accessible at retail and online. What makes our online program unique and different from others is the database constantly references live fitting data and compares your needs and information to people just like you to provide the most optimal fit. If you have not completed an online fitting, click here and see for yourself. What is the process like for developing new tech at Bridgestone Golf? Is there a lot of trial and error? Is there much transferability between what the tire manufacturing teams and the golf teams work on? Great timing for this question. Our new Tour Prototypes have just arrived here in Covington and we are actively testing. We immediately take the first versions (3-4 models of each) and test with our PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Champions Tour professionals. During the same time frame, we gather consumers from our Ball Fitting Database and conduct “amateur” testing for maximum data. Once complete, we share this information with our R&D Team along with recommendations for changes and improvements. We will go through this process at least 2-3 times before finalizing the model. At the end of the day, we want the product that hits the shelves to be the best it can possibly be for the end user. This process is expensive and tedious, but critical to creating the best performing golf balls possible. Can you tell us a bit more about the Hydro Core in the B330 series? How is it supposed to improve performance? In 2014, we introduced HydroCore technology to our B330 series. This technology was created by an engineer who substituted water (H20) for another substance used in “baking” the core. Water was intended to be a substitute or additive but actually provided great benefit. It delivered a softer core center than prior generation and a firmer outer region. The direct benefit was a lower spinning tee shot from the softer center while the firmer outer region would produce more speed. The combination resulted in longer distance. Making the core softer or the core firmer is not innovative. Anyone can do that, but what made the HydroCore center unique is that we were able to do both with a new formulation and baking process.
  21. Posted this Saturday in another thread, but wanted to give it its own thread. This was my first PGA show - and I hope it won't be my last! Here's a quick rundown on the product experience highlights... 1. Talking with Jesse Ortiz -- the man is a legend in golf club design and is one of the nicest gentlemen I've met in a long time. That he spent about 20 minutes talking with a nobody like me was very flattering. He has some strong opinions about the state of golf equipment and how equipment is sold and marketed -- and he's funny as hell. Best of many gems he shared - he sees the equipment industry morphing into something similar to the beer industry - there's growing room for the micro-brews or regional brews, as well at the Buds, Coors and Millers. He sees the golf industry moving in the same direction. Oh, and the new Bobby Jones putters look awesome! 2. Hitting the Hogans -- hit a crap-ton of irons during demo day and the show, and the Hogan irons were certainly the "buzz" of the show. Their booth was an homage to the Hogan tradition, and the business cards they were handing out were badass -- with the iconic Hogan 1-iron from the US Open on the back. The irons? Nothing short of outstanding in my opinion. Not sure how the loft-idea is going to work out, but I like the fact that they're going to work through pros and fitters -- so you CAN try them through those channels. And the products will all be custom ordered - so the pro won't have to stock much of anything. They'll build them to spec every time. These are going to be interesting to keep an eye on. 3. Irons in general - it's a great time to be an iron buyer. Of all the irons I had the chance to try, my faves were - in no particular order - Hogan, Wilson FG 100 Blade, Wilson FG Tour V4, Srixon 545 and 745, all of the Bridgestones and Epon from Japan. If you're "into" forged feeling irons, these are as clean, crisp and smooth as they come. Would game any of them in a heartbeat. 4. Vega --- Vega irons were also up there, and I gotta say, I really liked their driver. You don't hear much about Vega, but they have some pretty nice equipment. It's not inexpensive, but it's very, very good. 5. Big Max push carts --- got the full demo on their entire line. Big Max is the number one line of "trolleys" in Europe, and you can see why. Versatile, easy to set up and take down, easy to store with lots - and I mean LOTS - of really cool and well thought out features. Keep an eye on them - you'll be seeing more of them in the coming months. Best push cart that I saw.... 6. DST Training Clubs -- these suckers have bent shafts. It's a training aid designed to force you to keep your hands in front of the club face at impact, so you're leveraging all your power and hitting down on the ball. It's a weird feel at first, but it's one of those training aids that will find a permanent home in my bag, seeing as how I'm a chronic flipper. 7. Royal Albatross Shoes -- Winner of the MGS Most Wanted Shoe challenge - these things are gorgeous, comfortable and gorgeous. Not to mention comfortable. Pricey, but good footwear may be the most underrated item in the game. 8. ECCO - speaking of footwear, these guys are playing chess while most of the rest of the industry (Royal Albatross excluded) is playing checkers. The new lines - especially the spikeless street shoes - are nothing short of spectacular. 9. Biion -- another shoe company. We've had reviews by GolfSpy MPB here, and quite frankly, I didn't get his enthusiasm. I do now. You really have to see them in person to get the full color pop, and they are "slip-on" comfy. I see them in my future, too. 10. MLA Putters -- from Switzerland - the aiming mechanism is really unique and effective. If you have an issue with squaring up the putter face, one of these will help you with your alignment. Again, it looks a little weird, but sometime weird gets it done. 11. Zepp -- had never tried one before, but boy are they helpful little devices. Was worried I'd be distracted by having the little sensor device on my glove hand, but once it was on I never noticed it once. And I absolutely loved the feedback and swing information it gave you. Can see this as being a huge tool for instructors and for swing-junkies. The hands don't lie. 12. Kentwool Socks - have your say, Furu! Actually, I've been a fan of Kentwool for a long time, and at this very moment wearing a pair of their compression socks on the plane. Bought these over a month ago and always wear them when flying - they are the cat's behind! Got to meet the owner of Kentwool at the show and - like Jesse Ortiz - was very friendly, frank and giving of his time to a no one like me. We had a great chat and he made me an even bigger fan of his company. 13. Golf Knickers.com -- Another product that looks way better in person than in pictures. I see an MGS Golf Knicker Invitational in our future -- great colors and styles. You want to stand out on a course? These will do it, but when you dress like that you better bring your A-game! 14. Lambda Golf Shoes -- all leather from Portugal. Great designs - awesome looking shoe. Didn't get to try them on, so can't speak to their comfort, but Golly Moses they're purdy. 15. Renegar Wedges -- liked the new forged design with the notched sole. Hope we see more of these - good looking and produced by another industry maverick. Pay attention to them. 16. iZulu Golf - from South Africa. A custom fitting system to be sold through golf pros. Irons with interchangeable faces (for fitting purposes), driver with low CG pods (not unlike NIke's, but not similar, either), and some of the nicest hybrids I hit at the show. Their mallet putter looked like a Transformer - you can move the weight back for fast greens and up for slow greens. They're a ways away from becoming a presence here - if they ever will be, but their stuff is pretty solid. 17. New Stich headcovers -- no words other than "Bad-Ass-Looking!" Really cool new designs.
  22. New press release from Bridgestone... BRIDGESTONE INTRODUCES J15 FORGED WEDGES FOR UNMATCHED SPIN AND VERSATILITY Bridgestone's Best Performing Wedges Combine Unique Heel Side Shape with Groove Technology for Ultimate Spin Performance from any Lie Covington, Ga. — Bridgestone Golf, the #1 ball-fitter in golf and a recognized industry innovator, will reveal its new J15 Forged Wedges at the 2015 PGA Merchandise Show. The J15 Forged Wedges rely on a combination of 3 innovative technologies to ensure the ultimate in spin and versatility. “Bridgestone is proud of the wedges that we have put into the market over the years, but we know based on our extensive R&D testing that our new J15 Forged line offer best in class spin and versatility,” said Josh Kinchen, Golf Clubs and Accessories Marketing Manager, Bridgestone Golf, Inc. “Feel and spin control have been vastly improved in going from our previous cast wedges to the new J15 Forged line. It speaks to our commitment to provide superior performing clubs to our loyal customers.” The unmatched spin and versatility in the J15 Forged Wedges is achieved through 3 key technologies: 1. Sure Contact Sole · The Sure Contact Sole design of the J15 Forged Wedges offers unique heel side shaping that features a reduced profile and ensures forgiving accuracy from any lie on the course. Unlike other companies who hand grind the crucial heel side of the sole, Bridgestone's unique forging process ensures this area is never touched by hand ensuring consistency. 2. Pro Groove Design · Bridgestone engineers focused their groove efforts on increasing the inner groove area for the J15 Forged Wedges, offering unmatched ability to channel dirt, water and debris away from the face, increasing spin and ensuring consistent ball to face contact from all lies. 3. Durable Heat Treatment · The J15 Forged Wedges have heat-treated faces for enhanced durability and longer club life. The unique heating process reinforces the face without compromising club feel or performance. The J15 Forged Wedges feature a head length of 79 mm with a tour preferred teardrop shape. They are available in black oxide and satin finishes at lofts of 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60. The J15 Forged Wedges will feature a street price of $119 and will available in both Right and Left Hand* versions at retail on February 1, 2015. *Left Hand versions available in 52 and 58-degree lofts, black oxide finish only and not available until April 1, 2015. 23. BRIDGESTONE ANNOUNCES J15F FAIRWAY WOODS AND J15HY HYBRIDS "DESIGNED TO PERFORM" It looks like the PGA Merchandise Show is the place to be if you have even a passing interest in Bridgestone Golf! Bridgestone Golf are adding the J15F and J15HY to the recent release of the J715 driver - to be unveiled at the 2015 PGA Merchandise Show. The J15F Fairway Woods and J15HY Hybrids reportedly promise optimized ball flight and more distance from a variety of lies. “The R&D team at Bridgestone takes great pride in offering clubs with true innovation,” said Josh Kinchen, Golf Clubs and Accessories Marketing Manger, Bridgestone Golf, Inc. “We want consumers to know that when Bridgestone introduces a new product to the market, that product is bringing something unique and worthwhile to the industry. Our new fairway woods and hybrids are no exception to that rule, featuring a multitude of technologies that allow these critical clubs to play the role they are intended to play – high launching distance with soft landings and the ability to be played from anywhere including the tee, fairway, rough and even greenside." The improved distance afforded in the J15F Fairway Woods and the J15HY Hybrids can be attributed to several key technologies: 1. F.A.S.T Crown The Flex Action Speed Technology (F.A.S.T.) crown comprised of High Strength AM355 Maraging Steel is incredibly thin near the clubface and progressively thickens towards the clubhead rear. This proprietary technology enables the crown Bridgestone Introduces J15F Fairway Wood and J15HY Hybrid to slightly flex at impact creating higher launch angles and extreme ball velocities through increased spring like effect. 2. Hyper Stainless 455 Steel Face The clubfaces of both the fairway woods and hybrids are made from Hyper Stainless455 Steel, which allows for the thinnest face ever by Bridgestone at 1.8mm for maximum repulsion within conforming rules. 3. Weighted Port Technology An adjustable weight system in the sole of the fairway woods and hybrids allows the player to influence desired spin and trajectory for maximum distance and control. The clubfaces of both the fairway woods and hybrids are made from Hyper Stainless 455 Steel, which allows for the thinnest face ever by Bridgestone at 1.8mm for maximum repulsion within conforming rules. Versatility: The versatility in both Fairway and Hybrid models results from two key design modifications: 1. Reduced Heel Profile (less drag, in all lies) 2. Sole Profile (rear sole of the club has been lowered to eliminating digging) J15F Fairway: 13.5, 15 and 18-degrees of loft with the 15 and 18-degree offerings also available in Left Hand versions. Fubuki Z Fairway shaft and custom yellow Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip. Available at retail February 1, 2015 Street price of $199 each. 24. Bridgestone J715 Driver More Photo: Michael Chini Bridgestone J715 Driver by Rob Sauerhaft Posted: Mon Jan. 5, 2015 Thin is in. The J715's crown is only 0.5 millimeters at its thinnest and features springlike ribs on the interior that company officials say can increase ball speeds by 2 mph and launch angle by as much as 2 degrees at Tour-level swing speeds. A process called “power milling” creates a rougher clubface so that the ball doesn't roll up the face as much as it normally would and thus stays there longer. The combination reduces spin by up to 350 rpm at higher launch angles (12.5°) and by 200 rpm at lower launch angles (10.5°) for a longer, more penetrating flight. Two removable weights in the sole—one behind the center of the face and the other more rearward and heel-biased—are used to alter the club's center of gravity (CG). From the factory, the J715 driver comes with a 10-gram weight in back and a 4-gram weight in front, but flipping them will lower launch angle by as much as 0.75° and decrease spin by up to 200 rpm. A weight kit ($80) sold separately includes 2-, 4-, 6-, 8-, 10- and 12- gram plugs for more customization. The club's hosel offers further adjustability, allowing face-angle changes from 1° open to 1° closed, as well as lie angles from standard to 2° upright. Lofts: 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5°, 12°. $399. Available February 1.
