Howdy Spies. I purchased a pair of these from DSG's about 10 years ago and they have worked out really well. In fact, I'm still wearing them now and they show little wear - slight yellowing of the rubber sole/edge from age and possibly chemicals used on courses is about it. My wife was looking at some puffy vests on-line and these popped up on sale. While my current pair would likely serve me for another few years, the sale price and the newer looked peaked my interest. The one thing I don't like about my current shoe is that they are a little to wide for me resulting in the laces being a bit long and the eyelets close together when cinched up. I'm not sure if these were a medium or wide fit and the label has long since worn off. Also, they are a size 13 partly for my slightly larger foot when younger and also because I lived in the PNW where cooler, wet play and thicker socks were common. Seeing this as an opportunity to help my wife out with the dreaded "what to get him for Christmas" question, we ordered a pair. Free shipping arrived in 2 days! I figured I'd do a quick review on these to help any others in the market for golf shoes and, hopefully, while their on such a great deal. Here is a picture of my current Walter Hagen's. Still quite serviceable, with only wear in the heel area. I have found these "nubby" spikes to work very well except on frosty grass. All my previous shoes had traditional metal spikes. I considered a pair when I purchased these that had the newer multi prong rubber spikes, but really liked the look of these more. As for heat comfort, I have found these to be just fine - plenty breathable and not causing excessive sweat issues. I would give these a 4.5/5 star rating with the only deduction being the too wide a fit... presuming these were a medium size to begin with? Here's what the new shoes look like. They have a bit more "sneaker" like design than the old versions. Also, they have a better "ortholite" insole. I find my old ones quite comfortable and I walk more than I ride. My quick assessment of the new ones are that they will be every bit as comfortable - perhaps more so. I did buy size 12 medium and the width is perfect with eyelet spacing when cinched up just right. I would say if you generally wear "wide fit", they are true to size and would suggest getting the wide. Both are the "HydroHalt" design which I would rate as quite good in damp conditions. Except for raining days or having to constantly slosh through standing puddles, my current shoes stay dry with no seepage through the soles. Whether the new model has the same results remains to be seen but with my rounds taking place in Arizona and southwest MT they won't get a severe test in this category. For those that play in really wet conditions, I don't think these are the best choice. The construction materials sure look the same, though I don't know for sure. Typically, manufactures use cheaper and thinner materials and the new stuff often does not wear as well as the old stuff - so time will tell. The "nubby spike" design appears nearly identical, which is great based on my prior experience. They have worn exceptionally well with plenty of time on non grass surfaces. I'm making my 4.5/5 star recommendation based off of my experience with the older model - but would be surprised if these don't get the same score. I just wanted to get this initial review out to the forum ASAP since they are on sale now. I will follow up later as I get some mileage on the new ones. Greetings Ya'll, I need assistance getting Dick's to stand behind their error. They ruined my mixed set of Titleist 718 irons and 3 SM6 Vokey wedges. -My Wife and I live in Michigan full time. We are in Clermont Florida temporarily while I attend classes at the Golf Academy of America, Orlando Campus. I am 47, retired as a Major from the Army after 25 years of service. I am going to school to become a Teaching Professional. -A large part of the course work is actually playing the game. I need golf clubs on a daily basis to receive a grade. -I purchased a new set of irons, a Titleist 718 mixed set. 4-7 AP2. 8-P CB. They were professionally fit in Michigan before starting class on October 23rd. In addition to the irons, I purchased 3 Vokey SM6 wedges. 48, 54, 58. All the shafts are upgraded True Temper shafts. Total Cost is approximately $2000 dollars. -I was scheduled to participate in a golf tournament on November 6, 2017. The course, Venetian Bay, is in Port Orange, Florida. On November 5, 2017, my wife and I left Clermont for the tournament. I have been working on gapping my clubs. On our way out of town, we stopped at Dick's Sporting Goods in Clermont, FL. I stopped to have the licensed club fitter, Jim, adjust the lofts of all 10 clubs. The most any club was to be adjusted was 2 degrees. He adjusted them, we paid for them, and we continued on to the hotel in Port Orange. -After checking in, my wife and I went to a driving range. I always warm up with my wedges. I grabbed my 58 and discovered it looked more like a 4 iron. I don't know how he did it. But he managed to bend all of clubs in the range of about 10 degrees apiece. I was devastated. We went to Bob Evans for ice cream and to ponder my options. I found a Dick's in Daytona about 7 miles from us. We made it to the store just before closing. I grabbed the 3 SM6 wedges and showed them to the club fitter Gary. He couldn't even get them in his loft machine at first. He was able to bend them back close to the point they resembled a wedge. Gary couldn't figure out how Jim could have done it. I asked him to look at all of them. He couldn't because the store was closing. The manager of the store apologized profusely. -I played in the tournament and shot a 102 with a bag full of 4 irons. On Tuesday, I showed them to a Pro at school. He told me they were completely ruined. He sent me to the club repair lab to show them to J.D., J.D. is the school's club fitter. He checked my 6 iron. It was supposed to be 31 degrees. It was 22 degrees. He gathered the class that was about to start to illustrate what happens to a golf club when you bend them wrong. He told me to go back to Dick's and ask them to replace them. All of the clubs were ruined. - I took the clubs back to Dick's. I asked for a manager. Zach and Ken were both some sort of intermediary managers. They went to a back room to determine how to proceed. The store manager and golf manager were not in at the time. They couldn't get ahold of them. They don't carry Titleist Clubs. I told them I need golf clubs for school. Ken did his best to get them back to stock measurement until a decision was made in the morning when the other 2 were back in the office. Ken told me to snap one of the heads off and then Titleist would replace them. He told me that I would receive a call by 10AM. I called the store at about 4 on Wednesday because I hadn't heard from them. I eventually talked to Jim the guy that ruined them. He denied it, of course. Zach, the assistant I talked to the day before, eventually called me back. He finally reached the store manager. The store manager is not going to replace them. They said they would send them to Titleist to have them evaluated. This is a problem. I need clubs every day. I had to purchase a set of Mizuno irons and wedges through the school. They offer a school discount. They don't have an account with Titleist. I can't afford a set of Titleist irons from a retail store. They should be in this week so I can turn in the Titleist clubs to Dicks. - I expect to receive new Titleist 718 irons from Dicks and to be reimbursed for the irons I had to buy to participate in school. Dick's golf business stops bleeding, but hunting sales to keep hurting Sporting goods retailer said golf sales, margins have improved; hunting to remain under pressure in current quarter Bloomberg Newsâ€˜Big Bertha' has helped stop the bleeding in Dick's Sporting Goods' golf business By TOMIKILGOREREPORTER Dick's Sporting Goods appears to have stopped the bleeding in its golf business, but unseasonably warm weather has now opened new wounds in cold-weather product salesâ€”notably in its hunting business. The sporting goods retailer's stock DKS, -9.43% plunged 12% in active afternoon trade Tuesday, putting it on track to close at the lowest level since January 2012, after the company's disappointing results and outlook. The stock has tumbled nearly 40% since the April 4, 2015 record close of $58.98. Same-store sales at its Golf Galaxy stores declined for an 11th-straight quarter, but the company said that overall, sales of golf equipment and apparel increased and golf margins improved. Chief Executive Ed Stack explained on a Tuesday conference call with analysts that while Golf Galaxy â€œran a little behindâ€ the results seen in Dick's branded stores, Golf Galaxy represented only about 3% of the company's total business, according to a transcript provided by FactSet. Stack said he saw reason to be optimistic on golf, given strong sales of new products, such as the M1 driver from TaylorMade and Callaway Golf Co.'s Big Bertha. Stack said the golf business still won't be a big growth area, â€œit's just we think we've stopped the bleeding, so to speak, but it will be much more profitable.â€ When asked by Deutsche Bank analyst Mike Baker whether the warmer-than-usual weather has helped drive golf's improvement, Stack said: â€œYes, the weather has definitely helped the golf business, yes.â€ At the same time, Stack said he believed the warm weather played a big role in hurting the hunting business, as it kept hunters from buying jackets, boots, socks and layering pieces. The hunting business is expected to remain under pressure in the current quarter, the company said, as the weather isn't expected to get meaningfully colder through November. Ironically, Chief Operating Officer Andre Hawaux said on the call that record-warm weather was helping boost same-store sales, to the higher end of expectations, until Labor Day. Then, â€œit's like somebody turned off the switch,â€ and cold-weather related apparel products started having a â€œreally difficult time,â€ Hawaux said, according to FactSet transcripts. Besides hunting gear, other products that have been hurt included compression products worn by football and soccer players, cold weather running apparel and accessories, ski pants and anything fleece, the company said.
