  1. I'm curious who the Cobra F8, F9, and Speedzone irons fans are here. I didn't get to try our the F8s when I had them, but I've had a chance to try out the F9 and Speedzone irons. I noticed how much I enjoyed the Speedzone 4 and 5 irons and liked the loft differential in the F9s from the 7 iron and up. At first the F9s felt a bit heavy in the steel but I gained a lot from testing out the Speedzones at our aqua range facility. I am hoping to get there at least once before my game on Monday. I don't know what all of your experiences have been, but I am very tempted to take a look at a combination of the Speedzone 4-6 irons and the F9 7 to GW. I'm sure that will answer some of my questions far as what my actual set makeup will be. Is anyone here with me there? . Remember there is right or wrong bag setup. It would be easier if we all played a full set of Cobra F8s, F9s, or Speedzones. After seeing what I experienced with the F9s and Speedzones in recent weeks, I've been able to broaden my horizons more. If you look at the example of a number pro golfers on the tour...they play more forgiving irons in the longer irons {Rickie Fowler played an F9 4 iron in his set for some time.) So it's good to know that even tour pros are dealing with the same issues we as amateurs are dealing with. Something else up for consideration is the advent of One Length irons. If I were struggling with my longer a irons, I would stick with the VL for my 8 iron to GW and add the OL for my 4 tp 7 irons. Again...play to your strengths. Since moving over to GI irons some years ago, my long irons have been my strong suit. For me, consistency and club selection in my 7 iron to GW is the area I need the most work in. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. What's worked for you and why do you think that is? For me, as mentioned, the long irons have turned into my favorite clubs because to me, there's nothing more thrilling and exciting than purring a long iron and watching it sail towards the green or seeing it split the middle of the fairway over ending up on the right side of the fairway in the rough. Happy golfing everyone and welcome to the wonderful, confusing world of Cobra GI irons! Be sure to stop every so often to just enjoy the smell of the roses! GTiger aka Cobra Guy
  2. Hello everyone, so i got fit for a driver, and i am a very tactile person. With this amazing sport of golf everything matters, touch, feel, sound etc....so after trying 6 different drivers it came down to two. Callaway maverick max 66g stiff and ping g410 plus 75g stiff. The maverick i hit longer but less accurate than the g410plus. It was a little more erratic, but more yards is what we all want, right?....do you go for the longer club, struggle and try to get more accurate? Or do you take the more accurate and try to make it go farther?
  3. My last driver upgrade was about 8 years ago...not much money was being thrown at my golf game coming out of college. I’d bought a Callaway RAZR Fit Tour 8.5 with a stock shaft that I learned to hit reasonably consistently but the distance just wasn’t there. I don’t expect to ever hit Phil-esque seeds or Bryson bombs, but I did feel like I was leaving some distance on the table. And that 10-20 yards felt like a huge difference. Spoiler alert, I was right. I finally took the plunge, trusting Club Champion after they nailed my iron fitting a few years ago. Same results here. I’ve had the Speedzone for a few months now, and I’m hitting it on average 15 yards further than that old Callaway. I love the way the ball jumps off the face. I can affirm what I’ve read from other sources, even my miss-hits turn out considerably better. Like maybe-way-out-of-the-fairway-but-still-over-235 better (I average about 265-270 with this baby). The sound is scintillating...there’s that resonant “tink” with just a hint of smash on every. Single. Swing. I love the look at address, sleek but solid. Clean lines that somehow instill confidence. The adjustable weights are a little tedious to switch but that’s really my only complaint. Now, about the shaft. I’d never heard of VA composites before my fitting. Truly under the radar if you ask me now. I got fit in the Vylyn, and boy does it make me feel like I’ve stolen some secret. First off, the look is just geeky cool. Reminds me of reading comic books growing up. The face on the shaft seems like it should be distracting but it’s actually like having a man on the inside. Performance-wise, I notice what I can’t feel. I don’t feel the weighty-ness of this shaft, I know the kick point is higher but I just can’t feel it like I could with my old driver. It feels solid but in a comforting way, not an “I can’t bend this brick of a shaft” way. I was surprised that I hit the X version best as my swing speed isn’t particularly high. I know I’m probably late to the party on both of these, but just wanted to share my experience. I can’t wait to get back on the course with this baby once these cold winter months are over for us Midwesterners. Guess I’ll be frequenting my local indoor range a little more often! Also, shoutout to Fairway Jockey for the shaft. Doing great work over there, check them out. Pics of the shaft below, I figured there’s enough out there on the Speedzone.
  4. Currently using the original Epic but also have a Cobra F9. The Epic is looking pretty battered after 3 years and has some issues with the lamination on the base so it is time for a new driver. I've been to two fitting days Callaway Maverik: Ended up the recommendation was the 10.5 Max Head with the Stiff Hzrd Smoke 60 (1 inch shorter) Cobra SZ: 10.5 standard head with stiff Tensei Orange flash shaft. Out of the 2 the Maverik looks favourite at the moment, I 'm just not convinced that I got anything extra from the SZ, while the Maverik gave me slightly more yds and dispersion was much better. In the meantime I've been to the range and worked on my driving a bit and now hitting the Epic a bit better but still prone to the odd high and right. Today spending an hour with the Pro on Trackman and the Ping G410 and Mizuno ST200 c.f. Maverik. Hopefully if I get a good fit he'll let me out on the course with it, which is the true test. I want to come away from the fitting thinking yeah that felt really good which the Maverik got halfway there but the SZ was more a Meh!
  5. Anyone else see Rickie plying a practice round with the F9? I thought I saw it in one of the earlier tournaments also, maybe in Detroit? any news on this? He is the face of Cobra and SpeedZone which I find surprising I don’t see more Bryson speedzone commercials.
