  5. TO BE OR NOT TO BE, THAT IS THE QUESTION: CNBC reported yesterday that Acushnet, owner of Titleist and FootJoy brands, is working towards an initial public offering. While it may be news to CNBC and in turn its viewers, the company's owners, Fila, have been on the record confirming this always was its original plan. "We've planned an initial public offering (IPO) since we acquired Acushnet in 2011. We will push forward with the plan," a FILA spokeswoman told the Korean Times in April. "Our goal is listing the company on the New York Stock Exchange next year. But things can change depending on market situation." As long time readers of the Daily Pulse and Web Street Golf Report may recall, in 2011 a Korean Consortium consisting of Fila and Mirae Asset acquired the company. Fila's investment was seen to be long term (a strategic investment) while Mirae Asset (investing on behalf of the Korean Pension Service Fund) was seen to be more of the traditional five-year invest and redeem. The fifth anniversary of the acquisition is in July 2016. Therefore, it only makes sense that the company would be exploring recapitalization options as it faces a potential redemption. "As a matter of policy, we do not respond to questions or speculation regarding strategic matters, including the capital structure of the company," stated Wally Uihlein, Acushnet's CEO upon inquiry from the Daily Pulse on the matter. Despite the rough and tumble times in the golf industry in recent years, the acquisition has been an excellent one for Fila and Mirae Asset. Acushnet has made money each year that it has been in the possession of the Korean Consortium. According to its financial performance, Acushnet has delivered in excess of $121 million in net income over the past three fiscal years alone. At the midway point of 2015, the company has earned another $62.5 million for its owners. The original purchase price was approximately $725 million in cash and $500 million in debt for the company. Over the relatively short time that Fila has had an ownership stake in Acushnet, its stake will have grown to 33% by 2016 as it coverts available bond warrants into equity. Fila's investment position of $100 million was roughly 12% at the outset and will have grown to 33% by 2016 assuming it converts the last tranche of available warrants, according to information publicly available on its web site. Should Acushnet elect to join the ranks of publicly traded companies in 2016, it would also present an open-ended exit strategy for its shareholders. It would in effective eliminate the need to undergo the necessity of future funding if a large shareholder decided to take their money elsewhere some time down the road. So why sell given the financial performance has been stellar via an initial public offering? In some countries, when investments are made on behalf of public funds, there are covenants that require redemption to be made through the public markets in order to receive an undisputed "fair market value." That could be the case here since it is public knowledge that many of the funds associated with the investors listed (Mirae, Neoplux) emanate from public holdings. Another mitigating factor that could be in play is some of the Koreans investors also probably looked at the Acushnet Company acquisition with an eye on the world's second largest GDP: China. Back in 2011, there was considerable discussion and hope that China could or would repeat the Japan Golf Market growth of 1970-1990. However, the reality that the Golf Course construction ban in 2004 and later the central Government anti corruption campaign (initiated in 2013) have dampened the hopes of many who were looking at China as the golf industry's next platform for growth opportunities. In the meantime, Acushnet must explore its available options based on what it likely knew when it was acquired back in 2011.

  7. Greetings I see a lot of products over the year, much of it gets covered in reviews such as the Holiday Buyers Guides, Ball Guides or Speed Reviews, but I think it's important to let you guys know what stays in the bag or hasn't survived the test of time. This is the 2015 MBP Gear in Play thread. Featured are 22 products that are bag fixtures, I continue to scrutinize or just new pending some sort of review. I've listed a brief overview of each with general comments, but I'm starting this thread to open up each one for questions and discussion. So ask away, or maybe even leave your own impressions of a product listed here. Look forward to hearing from you guys. ACCESSORIES Best Grips Drivershoes and Puttershoes I'm constantly asked at the range; course etc where I got the driver cover. It's a serious head turner. Feels and smells like genuine leather Takes a beating an holds up well after over a year's use Soft internal lining Stitch Golf Covers The leather is good; although not quite as plush as I've seen Looks are really nice in person with nice detail and great color selection Internal lining is very thin and doesn't imply luxury Tight fit on large driver heads Garmin Approach S6 Mrs. MBP swears by the easy to read plethora of data Comfortable on wrist Data is quite accurate when verified against my laser GRIPS Best Grips Microperf I love grabbing the water bottle, soaking the grip and handing them to someone to see their “Holy crap it's even tackier!” reaction. Super tacky Love the feel of leather The stitching down the back isn't for everyone 2015 Pure Grips DTX and P2 Wraps I wasn't a fan of previous generation pure grips. They always felt as if they were dusty and instilled not confidence of not flying out the hands. Much tackier than before Comfortable with good feedback DTX tend to twist in the textured areas a little SHOES Biion I reviewed these last year and immediately fell in love. Yes, I've suffered through my detractors who I still call friend with comments like “Take off those Rubbermaid shoes”, but I continue to wear them. Super comfortable No smell after (serious I stuck my nose in) Quick and convenient to throw on and go (driving is fine) Great traction ECCO Biom Very sturdy, stable feeling Wide fit whether that's a good or bad thing – good for me Awesome toe protection – can wear on range mats without wearing out Footjoy DNA They hug and mold to your feet with their cool fitfoam system. I wasn't expecting this kind of support and will admit my feet ached for the first hour I wore them. By the end of that days round I was sold on their comfort. Fit to size Super comfy Really good traction Nike Lunar Control 3 Just took them out of the box, more to come Wide toe box Went a half size up for best fit True Linkswear Gent Wingtips Well don't I look all fancy! Fit wide Scuff easily Sole peeled back on first pair in 8 rounds BALLS From the Direct to Consumer Ball Guide 3UP, Lightning, Monsta, Nicklaus and Snell These balls all compete on a tour level but there are a few shining stars. Snell Very controlled spin Bombs off driver Feels great Nicklaus Crazy low bombing driver spin Solid feel Really good wedge touch/Spin TaylorMade Project A They claim it's like a Pro V 1 and they're pretty close. Sweet soft feel Mid-flight trajectory Surprising spin CLUBS Ping G30 Driver This club is all shaft dependent for me to ensure I keep the spin down. I've gone with a 73g Paderson and so far so good. Accurate Predictable ball flight Freakin loud Nike Vapor Pro For those who like to hit non-ballooning, line-drive bullets. I've had this driver one weekend and I look for every excuse to hit it. Talk about a perfect fit for me stock with the Diamana S+ shaft. Mishits carry much further than what I'm used to Really accurate Great soft feel face Flat trajectory TaylorMade Rsi2 Irons Love these Straight Mishits carry better Feel is really nice for a GI with forge faces Titleist 915 HD Hybrids Yes it's dirty, but you needed to see how often I use it. I look for a reason to hit hybrid because of this club. I will mention I'm test driving a Paderson Hybrid shaft in this one and the combination is great. Accurate Workable Feels good Ping Ketsch 352% more accurate from 5 feet? Yup 8 feet and in seems automatic I find it tough to adjust to for lag putting SHAFTS Paderson Irons I've got a thread already that I need to update with a mini review, but I will say these are the straightest damn iron shafts I've ever played. Distance is good, not phenomenal Good feedback Strong but smooth Great flat trajectory So there you they are, a bevy of goodies for us to discuss.
  8. I was reading an ad last night for the new Callaway Xfer Pro golf shoe. I haven't really paid too much attention lately to golf shoes. I own a few pair of golf shoes that I switch around on occasion. Man, you wouldn't believe all the technology that goes into making a pair of top of the line golf shoes. Let me (and Callaway, Adidas, and FJ) show you what I mean. Callaway says - Designed to provide the ultimate in power Xfer, it is loaded with Xfer technologies. Xfer means transfer in cool speak. See? Callaway claims their new Xfer shoe is "loaded" with technology and possess Power! Did you know for example that the Xfer has… A minimized toe to heel height lowers the foot's center of gravity. Ahh yes. I like being closer to the ground. Even by a 1/16". An adjustable X Cage structure is built into the upper and hugs the foot to enable synchronized power movement in tandem with the outsole. There's that word again. Power. Wear these shoes and you'll have more Power. I'd assume they mean I'll hit the ball further too. And all in perfect rhythm. My feet need to be X caged. The integrated Superfeet™ Pro insole improves alignment, balance and body position for a more fluid power Xfer. Awesome. Now instead of hoofing around like some amateur slug it I'll be carried around the course on Superfeet. And not just any old Superfeet but Pro Superfeet. And all my lousy swing moves will vanish and I'll start swinging like Erine Ells. … with Power. Fluid Power. As an added bonus for any of you granola heads Superfeet are vegan and free of latex, nickel sulfate, formaldehyde and preservatives. It's good to know my feet won't rot off during my next round. I suppose if I should get hungry and eat a Superfeet insole at the turn I'm least eating healthy. Xfer Dynamic Traction Technology combining built-in tractional elements with strategically placed Pro Flex PINS performance spikes to deliver optimum traction in any condition. Dynamic Traction Technology? Huh? Dynamic implies movement. When I swing I want grip… more static. I guess it's more controlled slippage they're after here. Additionally, these shoes have Pro Flex Pins spikes. I mean, who doesn't want spikes like the pros use? And these have them. The Xfer Power Wall prevents lateral side foot slippage during your swing, while absorbing and releasing energy through the load and unload of your swing. Here it is again. Power. But this time it's in the Power Wall. None of my shoes have a Power Wall. I must be a chump and losing distance. Secondary set of fashion laces in complementing color included. Lastly, if all this new found Power doesn't do it for you Callaway is throwing in a second set of "Fashion" shoe laces. Somehow I feel these laces contain most of the power. Don't you? Callaway isn't alone in awesome shoe technology. Not by a long shot. Adidas has "revolutionary" Boost cushioning technology. The shoe also has "AdiPower Boost". More shoe – more Power! The Adidas AdiPower Boost shoe will also keep you on swing plane due to additional Gripmore Technology. It's easy. Get new shoes and fix your swing. Lastly we have Footjoy with the D.N.A shoes. These shoes have more advancement packed into them than ever before. FootJoy couldn't do it last year. But, this year is different. These shoes have Micro-vents, 3-D foam collar, fine-tuned foam, Nitro-thin outsoles, Stealth cleats, snug-fit tongue, and ChromoSkin. Whew. I don't know if I'm ready for all that at once. Sadly, no Power from FJ. In summary it seems that if you don't start wearing one of these new shoes you're losing distance and your swing will remain sucky like a broken tree limb. According to these companies these are the best shoes ever. Ever! They will not be able to beat them. Everything these companies know is packed into these shoes. It can't get any better. Until next year.
  9. Pretty sure I'll have to be purchasing a pair of these for someone at home.
  10. I have 2 pairs of Footjoy DryJoys Tours for sale. Offers welcome!! White BOA model# 53719 $100 shipped CONUS Black model# 53652 $80 shipped CONUS Both pairs are 11.5 Wide The insoles are brand new. I pulled them out for some arch support ones that I have before using. They have the original spikes still installed, which should give you some indication of the little use that they have had. I would say that they are like new looking. These are my cart shoes, but I always walk, so I am looking to fund a new walking shoe purchase. I love they way these shoes look, but my feet don't seem to like them like some many other people. I know I am new here, but you can check all my good reviews at Ebay for reference. Member MFROADER I accept face to face or Paypal shipped to you. Thanks, and let me know if you have any questions. White BOA Black Insoles
