  1. Alrighty fellow spies, it's time to gear up for the summer league season. With that in mind, I decided to spin up a new thread for the upcoming season. I play in a casual/competitive league, based in the Tampa area, that branches out to nearby areas for a 14 event season with a Ryder Cup style team event to wrap up the season. What to expect. I approach these reviews as a look at the total golf experience, not just the course and how it plays. For my format, I lead in with the name of the course, where it is, a link to the applicable course website, which tees were played, and how much it costs. You can see some examples in the previous seasons' version of this thread (Florida League Course Reviews) or in my Tampa Area Course Reviews thread. My price scale is from 1 to 4 dollar signs. $ <50, $$ 50-75, $$$ 75-95, $$$$ >95. The league tries to find the best courses at the best value so that has an influence on the price scale. My review areas include: Course Description, Course Conditions, Practice Facilities, and Course Employees. At the end of each review I'll include an overall summary of the golf experience and an overall recommendation. = Don't Bother, = Do Not Recommend, = Recommend, = Definite Recommend, = Don't Miss It With all of that to set the stage, here is this season's course lineup Mission Inn Resort - El Campeon, Howey In the Hills, FL Southern Hills Plantation, Brooksville FL Old Corkscrew, Estero FL Orange County National - Panther Lake, Orlando FL Bella Collina, Orlando FL Juliette Falls, Dunellon FL Lake Jovita - North, Dade City FL Candler Hills CC, Ocala FL Eaglebrooke, Lakeland FL Lake Jovita - South, Dade City FL Innisbrook Resort - Copperhead, Palm Harbor FL Streamsong Resort - Red/Blue (2-day event), Bowling Green FL TPC Tampa Bay, Tampa FL Esplanade at Azario, Lakewood Ranch FL League Invitational: Ritz Carlton Members Club, Bradenton FL Team Cup Event: Black Diamond Golf Club - Ranch/Quarry, Lecanto FL Keep in mind, I may not be able to play in every event of the season, but I do my best. The events I do play, I try to have the course review completed before the end of that weekend. If you are familiar at all with any of those venues, you can see it is a pretty good lineup to begin with. To those who have followed the previous course review threads, thanks for reading. I'm looking forward to another good season, and providing some good info for anyone looking to play in the area.
  2. Ok so in a couple of weeks I'll be heading to the Dallas/Fort Worth area for a friend's bachelor party. All of us play golf so I know at least 1 round of golf will be played on the trip. Also, me and another buddy who are more avid golfers plan on playing 1 other round of golf. As far as price, I need two different things. 1 in the sub $120 range and another in the sub $60 range. I'd love something in good shape. Doesn't have to be crazy hard or easy. Although I'd prefer hard to easy. Just want to play a couple fun, nice golf courses. Thanks for any help!
  3. Ireland is spoilt for choice with world class golf courses. In fact over a quarter of the World's true links courses are situated on the emerald isle (and the other 300 or so courses aren't too bad either!!!). From the likes of Ballybunion, and Lahinch in the South West to the delights of Royal Portrush and Royal County Down in the North, and Enniscrone and Ballyliffen on the rugged west coast which region deserves the title of being the number-one place to visit? If you've been there; tell us what's the best in your opinion. Or if you have not been; what regions would you like to go to first? And of course, with the Irish renowned for their warm hospitality, let us know about any good stories from your visit...! Thanks, Guy
  4. Hello MyGolfSpy My name is Guy, Director of Golfbreaks.com. We've just joined MyGolfSpy as a sponsor and I'd like to take the opportunity to introduce myself and the company to you. We're a specialist golf tour operator based out of Windsor, UK with offices in Charleston, SC and Copenhagen, Denmark. We have been providing golf vacations, to mainly European golfers, since 1998. Currently we sell over 2000 golf destinations worldwide and this year will send over 220,000 golfers on golf trips. In 2013 my co-Director Daniel Grave set up our USA office to expand our American operations and bring our bespoke service (and great value vacations!) to golfers Stateside. Our aim is to enthuse about the wonders of UK and Irish golf and encourage as many of you as possible to take a trip this side of the pond and play some iconic courses. The golf truly is great, and it is not as expensive as you might think; there are hundreds of hidden gems amongst the better known signature courses! You can find more details about our UK and Irish tours service on our USA website at: http://usa.golfbreaks.com If anyone needs any advice on golf or places to stay in Scotland, Ireland, England or Wales or is planning a golf trip to Europe then we would love to hear about it. In the meanwhile, play well! Guy
  5. Everytime I introduce someone to the Mrs. and mines favorite little course, Cove Links, the reaction is always the same: Why don't we have more of these? Why don't we? I know, I know you're just like a couple of my buddies "But I don't get to hit driver every hole?" So? Cove Links is 9 holes, it's $15 for 9 and less then $30 if you play 18. It has 7 par 3's and 2 short par 4's. The par 3's are all full length, from the tips pushing 2 bills at times, fully bunkered and great undulating greens. The par 4's 280 and 330 are no slouch either. My point? Golf needs more accesible courses, more courses where it's not as tedious a task to get around and most of all courses that are just down right fun to play. On a Saturday morning Nidine and I can wake up at 7:45, be there by 8:15 (10 minute drive) with coffee and have played 9 by 10 am. We've enjoyed the golf experience, made some memeroies and most of all have the rest of Saturday available to us. Oh and let's not forget that was $15. So tomorrow we'll probably wake up and do it all again. Now I'm not saying forget the big courses, the more expenseive, because lord knows I wanna play em too. I just think we need more of these style course to balance out the cost and ability to play more often. I'm just rambling some thoughts, but would love to hear yours.
