Alrighty fellow spies, it's time to gear up for the summer league season. With that in mind, I decided to spin up a new thread for the upcoming season. I play in a casual/competitive league, based in the Tampa area, that branches out to nearby areas for a 14 event season with a Ryder Cup style team event to wrap up the season. What to expect. I approach these reviews as a look at the total golf experience, not just the course and how it plays. For my format, I lead in with the name of the course, where it is, a link to the applicable course website, which tees were played, and how much it costs. You can see some examples in the previous seasons' version of this thread (Florida League Course Reviews) or in my Tampa Area Course Reviews thread. My price scale is from 1 to 4 dollar signs. $ <50, $$ 50-75, $$$ 75-95, $$$$ >95. The league tries to find the best courses at the best value so that has an influence on the price scale. My review areas include: Course Description, Course Conditions, Practice Facilities, and Course Employees. At the end of each review I'll include an overall summary of the golf experience and an overall recommendation. = Don't Bother, = Do Not Recommend, = Recommend, = Definite Recommend, = Don't Miss It With all of that to set the stage, here is this season's course lineup Mission Inn Resort - El Campeon, Howey In the Hills, FL Southern Hills Plantation, Brooksville FL Old Corkscrew, Estero FL Orange County National - Panther Lake, Orlando FL Bella Collina, Orlando FL Juliette Falls, Dunellon FL Lake Jovita - North, Dade City FL Candler Hills CC, Ocala FL Eaglebrooke, Lakeland FL Lake Jovita - South, Dade City FL Innisbrook Resort - Copperhead, Palm Harbor FL Streamsong Resort - Red/Blue (2-day event), Bowling Green FL TPC Tampa Bay, Tampa FL Esplanade at Azario, Lakewood Ranch FL League Invitational: Ritz Carlton Members Club, Bradenton FL Team Cup Event: Black Diamond Golf Club - Ranch/Quarry, Lecanto FL Keep in mind, I may not be able to play in every event of the season, but I do my best. The events I do play, I try to have the course review completed before the end of that weekend. If you are familiar at all with any of those venues, you can see it is a pretty good lineup to begin with. To those who have followed the previous course review threads, thanks for reading. I'm looking forward to another good season, and providing some good info for anyone looking to play in the area.
Hey fellow spies. Last summer I submitted course reviews from my competitive league season down here in the Tampa area. As I am preparing again for the start of the season in March, I will plan to do the course reviews again here, as well as summarizing my prep and performance. When the league schedule is posted I will list the courses, then as each play week concludes I'll do my course review and my best sports analyst impression to report on that week's play. I'll try to include a few more pictures this season as well, we play some pretty nice courses. The league has about 45 members, uses a full handicap stroke play format with each week's field set at 32-36 players split between two flights.. League points are earned for weekly placement, and there are options for skins and close-to-pin. There are three majors on the schedule worth double points, one of which is a two-day event, and another week set aside for a two-man team event. The season concludes a Top-20 invitational, then a Ryder Cup style event with teams selected by two team captains from first the top 20 finishers, then captains picks from the rest of the field. Since I finished 25th last year, my goal for the season is to crack the Top-20 and earn a playing spot in the invitational and an invite to the Cup event. What have I done to prepare so far? Lessons for one thing, though I'm not certain the teacher/student dynamic is working well because I sometimes struggle to translate his input into something I can feel in my swing. I was lucky enough to be selected for the Odyssey EXO putter test, and my putting has been improving since. Since I'm now one year away from Champions Tour eligibility, I got a set of the SuperSpeed Training system to at least try to maintain what club speed I've got left, if not improve a bit. I hope you all enjoy reading about the journey, and I welcome any/all input and encouragement. Cheers for now.
Hey guys, I am seeking some advice on something that I have never done before. I have been a member here since 2016 and I have loved my time here. I trust what you have to say so I do not feel too embarrassed asking about this. After having taught for 3 years I just started a new job corporate job two weeks ago. A member of my team invited me to join the company golf league. They play every other Thursday right after work and there are a considerable amount of people there. My friend also said that it is a great place to network as well, since several members of the executive board play regularly. I guess what I am seeking is a bit of advice as to how to go about this. I have never been in a league before, skins match or anything like that. So I am not starting with too much knowledge here. I have the basic format of the league like how its set up and how they play. I guess I am just looking for any advice you guys might have for a golf league newbie. Thanks in advance ya'll!
