Well, no rest for the weary. After the craziest Players event on record, a week long slog that only Pete Dye could love, the field heads to Tampa Bay area and Copperhead CC for the Valspar Championship. Sam Burns returns to defend his title and, at least for now, a pretty healthy field, to include many from The Players, are expected to be there. The weather forecast looks much better... I cannot help but think that will help any last minute travel plans. Those of us with Fantasy teams will have another dimension to factor into the play & sit decision. Some fun facts about Copperhead CC: It was designed by Larry Packard and opened in 1974 A contest ($250 purse) was held to name the course and included; Big Divot CC, Run Gator Run CC, and Skinny Squirrel CC Copperhead snakes are not indigenous to this part of Florida but Cottonmouths are... hmmm The desire to name the course after a snake was due to holes 16-18 being considered the "snake pit". Paul Azinger was quoted as saying "it's the best course on tour" and Curtis Strange said "if I had to choose one course to play the rest of my life, it would be Copperhead" If any of our spies have played this or the sister courses, please share your experience with us.
