Ever wanted to be a part of the data MyGolfSpy collects over the course of the season? Welcome to Testers Wanted, where we recruit readers like you for objective feedback on products that roll into HQ throughout the year!

You can say a lot of things about L.A.B. Putters but you certainly can’t say they’re boring. Or conventional. Or even unoriginal. Even the owner calls them "absurd."

Leveraging an approach called "lie angle balancing" (hence L.A.B. Golf) the brand feels it has a technology to help you make more putts.

That said, we need testers like you to assess, and report back to us here at MyGolfSpy!

Important: Each tester will be required to submit a fitting video per L.A.B.'s fitting process and be prepared to provide as much detailed feedback as possible

I think every one of us were doing double takes when we saw things add up in our carts.

Well, with all this new info, if any tester doesn’t want to game their putter as is 35” and 70*, I’d gladly put it up against my Scotty.

Not surprised to see L.A.B. is going over the top for you guys. I had some custom requests on my DF 2.1 and they had no trouble accomadating them.

@Grand Stranded sounds like we're going to have very similar setups. May have missed this, but is anyone going with the Press II grip? As much as I love the L.A.B. itself, I think the grip made the biggest difference in my putting stroke.

Speaking of custom, my old putter measured out at 35.25”, Phillip told me they could make that happen if I wanted. I ended up going with 35.5” anyways, but given the option to go away from their stock offerings, and trust that they’d get it done says a lot.

I have the PRESS II 3.0 grip on my order.  The concept of forward canting the putter is something new to me, but so is doing it with irons and my iron game has taken a quantum leap forward for distance and direction.  Can't wait to see what it does with a putter when I do not have to change my standard grip to get the cant.

I ordered the Press II. Looking forward to seeing how it impacts putting,

I also asked for a 35.25" length, as that's what I've got currently and it feels just about perfect.

Same here - the Press 2 was the recommended grip for the DF2.1. I am NOT typically a forward-press putter, so this set-up will for sure take some getting used to, but I feel like that's sort of the point - different look, different set-up, (hopefully) different results.

As the other testers have described the fitting process, I won't repeat the process here, but I'll add a couple of insights.

First, I used a cheap tripod with a magnetic iPhone holder to make the video.  Super easy to setup and shoot.

Second, I've seen my full swing in lots of videos.  I've been using Rapsodo for about a 10 months and it records every shot on my iPhone, plus previous lesson videos, and videos taken at the driving range.  However, I have NEVER seen a video of  myself putting.  It has never occurred to me to even make a selfie putting video to see what I look like.  I was surprised 😮 when I saw it.  Pretty much nothing like what it feels like to me.  Kinda looks like Arnold Palmer - hunched over, and compacted.  I plan on filming some putts face on and down the line mostly out of curiosity at this stage.

My online L.A.B. fitting came to 69° lie angle and 34".  They said my setup lie angle was 68° but I go to 69° as I go through the stroke. Holy cats, they spotted 1 degree difference! My current putter is 34" and the fitter commented, " I like how the butt end of the grip is barely visible as well. "

I got the Press II 3* grip in LEFTHAND. (I have no idea why they differentiate?)

Im’m at 34” and 65* are you anywhere near those #’s?

I thought about going full Adam Scott, but I’m not ready to learn a new putting style.  Standard it is for me.

Standard for me as well. Just can’t get myself to give armlock a real look just not comfortable.

Over $900 for the putter I ordered. B.2 35” at 66*. Grooved face.  Press II 1.5. Stainless. LA Golf shaft in white. White head cover. Great experience with LAB so far. Still hard to express how grateful for the opportunity to test this putter. I was very close to pulling the trigger on this before being selected but held off. I have very high hopes of this putter replacing my custom Bettinardi in a full time role.

I was going to save my whole build sheet for the review portion of the thread, but since everyone else is doing it… peer pressure is…

I blanked out the prices on purpose, because I don’t want it to skew your or my own thoughts on how this putter performs.  If you want, you can throw a build together to see what it cost in the end.  I am here for the performance of the club, not the sticker shock… but I will say it was VERY generous of L.A.B. To offer up the whole menu to us all.

Edit: that is not intended to be a dig at anyone, because in reality the cost does matter.  I will address that in my review.  I’m just different. 🙃

Here is my build sheet.

The question has arisen of how testers are going to measure the effectiveness of the L.A.B. Golf putter in comparison to the putter currently in use.

I've been using the SwingU app since 2015 with Looper subscription for full features, though for putting it has just been number of putts per hole.  As a numbers guy, I like to be able to remember details and anyone who knows me learns that I tend to forget things, like their name on occasion  amongst other things, so the app can tell me things like on Thursday May 28, 2015 at Rosebrook GC in Silver Creek, NY I shot a 105 for 18-holes and had 2.2 putts per hole (PPH).

SwingU says my average PPH for last month was 1.8  and it also has 215 rounds logged over the past 7 years that can be accessed by scorecard so there is historical data available there for analysis should I want to go that deep.  New this month to the SwingU app is a Green Reading Maps feature (that I'm still learning to use) though I tend to not depend on electronic information apart from distance to cup to assist my play.  It is more an issue of interference with my joy playing golf than a purist interest and I can't see the ball beyond 150yds in flight (and a laser rangefinder helps me not hit into the golfers I'm following).

My baseline is 1.8 PPH for this testing of the L.A.B. DF 2.1 I have ordered and my objective is to lower it and the measure of effectiveness will be by how much it is lowered.

The MEZZ.1 will be competing with the longest tenured putter in my bag since I split ways with my Anser 2 SS from 1999.  The Phantom X hits all the marks for me with looks, weight, feel, balance and performance.

Quite honestly, these are relatively subjective takes so in soliciting relatability for other spies I will say this.

I am a long time blade putter user who switched to a mallet because I wanted the benefit of higher MOI.

I've been averse to traditional center shafted putters out of nothing more than bad luck.

I prefer a smaller profile pistol grip.

Many of these points are contrary to what I am testing...I want to love this MEZZ.1 and I have a feeling that could occur...The revealer videos are enticing and I really enjoy the enthusiasm that CEO Mr. Hahn has for his product.  I get a strong sense that these have been rigorously tested prior to mass release to the public.

Since I’ve ordered the Brass B.2, I’ve been perusing the internet looking for user photos, found a few on other forums, but it looks like this thing will get a beautiful patina over time… adding to my excitement, all of my sailor friends will know how much fun polishing brass is… so I will NOT be doing anything but wiping off excess water, and a clean after using it… especially if they just put down the fertilizer.

I'm glad you mentioned ordering the Brass B.2, I was just over on their website looking to see what the B.2 is and about to come over here and ask if anyone was going to order it.

You all are doing a wonderful job so far in this review and I can only imagine it's going to get better as the testing ramps up.

I’m pretty excited to get it on the course, Like @bens197 it will be competing against the trusty PING that has been there since 2015.

I really wanted to play back in Michigan, but with only 4 days… I might sneak one or two early morning  rounds in… luckily, there is an awesome practice green just a few blocks away.

A few places on the road will get the B.2 out in Montana, and I’m planning some rounds right when I get to Oregon. Hopefully this thing ships soon so I can use it on my “home” course of 3 years as much as possible.  I’ve gotten to know the greens pretty well, and my putting is far superior than it used to be… kicking the PING out will be a tall task for the B.2

Not that I'm not freaking ecstatic about the DF2.1 coming (theoretically) soon, but good GOD that Brass B2 looks so good. I wish I was "automatic off the center" enough to justify that bad-boy.

Lots of pictures, please.  Especially if you have it long enough for it to start the patina process - has the opportunity to be legit a work of art.

Oh yes.  Hoping to play mostly on courses near the Pacific, close enough where the salt will be in the air… I imagine it is going to look just amazing after a few months, and even better as it ages.

I am not 100% on center each time, but after watching Will putt during the PGA… I don’t think I have any problems…. Plus, I was really glad we all didn’t have to do the MEZZ, or the DF… it would have taken hypnosis for me to allow my brain to make one of those things work, maybe.

Since the Press grips have the shaft at an angle, the lefthanded version would have to be different so that the shaft lean was correct. I really enjoy mine.

Mine's a little longer (36") and more upright (68*), but I have the BGT Stability Tour shaft as well. I also choke down on mine a little and almost play it like a little bit of a wrist lock grip.

I sure hope this becomes a picture-heavy thread. Going to be so many unique putters to look at.

I am going to TRY and do a video...which means I will...and it won't be nearly as good as several of others have done in years past but I think this one deserves it.

My goal with this is a companion video, actually, covering everything from the write-up, so that for those who don't like reading, they still have a way of accessing all the info.  Pretty excited about the way to shoot it, too - camera nerd here, and my wife's a former indie producer, so we're already talking about best ways to go about it.  No promises on it looking like anything fancy, but given the opportunity, feels like a cool thing to be able to do.

And obviously, gratuitous close-ups of the putter. Maybe even wearing googly eyes and a mustache, because SOMETHING has to make the 2.1 attractive to some of you, and what's better than a disguise? 😉

Putting has long been a weak part of my game. Like everybody, I sometimes catch lightning in a bottle and finish a round with 26 putts but most days it's close to 34. If I could get better at speed control I would cut the 3 putts (at least once per round) and I'm not saying I would become a scratch but I could get close...

And I actually think that they look cool! But then again I have been told that I have different taste...

Right now I am going through the decision between my old mallet style that I have had for 20+ years and a Ping Anser copy like I used to play many years ago.  It would be very interesting to try something entirely unique compared to either one of those.

Very intrigued about the theory and subsequently the design of these unique putters and would love to try.

I play with a guy in our group that loves his LAB putter. I have hit few putts with his and have wanted to give one a try. I have several different blade putters and a couple of mallet putters but nothing quite as unique as the LAB.

This looks like a fantastic opportunity to test a product that is undeniably and unashamedly different.

I bought my first new putter in 25 years for Christmas. I am a very good putter and was surprised that the Cobra Stingray with SIC face could make actually take my putting to the next level. It would be interesting to see weather L.A.B could take it even further.

Love the concept and really love the look of the Mezz 1. Would really love to test lab putters .

I have done quite a bit of reading about L.A.B putters and love the idea that they are throwing out traditional ideas about putting and putter fittings. I am quite an inconsistent putter and therefore I'm always looking for new ideas and products related to putting. This will be a fantastic review that may have a huge impact on how people approach putter fittings in the future.

Count me in. I've been working on putting, it's my weak spot, so having a putter for a period of time to really test would be fun.

Always been interested in these. Hit one a few times at the Palm Desert PGA Superstore and was intrigued as to how it would perform on the course.

Very interested to see how this one goes! Having no idea what my putter stroke really is, a putter fitting is something I've been contemplating for awhile. After seeing the tester announcment, come to find LAB makes is very accessible.

Very interested in following this test! I'd love to give these a try. I've played VAS irons, Callaway square FTI driver and a Ping Doc 15.5 putter. So I'm definitely not averse to playing different looking equipment

Link to comment

I've played over 50 years and have always struggled significantly with my putting, despite being around a scratch golfer. I finally figured out about 2 years ago that I putt best with a center shafted putter, which the LAB putters are, but I still struggle. I need to find a putter that raises me to the next level in my game. I've been intrigued with LAB putters when I heard about them a year ago and would love to test them out. The LAB putters aren't sold in golf shops and I can't afford to spend that amount of money on a putter that I haven't tested. I'm truly interested in being a tester, gain confidence in my putting stroke and start draining putts! I have a gut feeling that this is my putter and want to prove it!

They definitely do - their website is awesome and (though I haven't pulled the trigger yet), the video fit was INCREDIBLY easy.

Good luck to all who apply. I checked out all the locations for a fitting and the closest one to me was over 2 hours away.

The description of the test was that a remote fitting was required and not an in person fitting.   LAB has a process where you take a video and they will determine the length and lie angle.

Recently bought a practice putting setup from PuttOut to improve my putter face control and speed, and raise my self-confidence when I'm humbled by my (lack of) skills with my long clubs 😆. Best of luck to all; these things look wild!

Have been on the lookout for a new putter for a while now but I'm reluctant to spend a fortune on a new putter without the chance to try it out first, and nowhere near me appears to stock L.A.B putters. I'm fascinated by the concept and would love to give them a go!

Extremely excited about this test have been doing my research for my next putter and LAB golf is definitely high up on the list. Still yet to actually try one though. Very much look forward to the results of the test and hopefully I’m one of the lucky ones who gets to test it.

Would love to try that putter out. I like the shape and I play 3-4 rounds per week,so I can give you an honest opinion on how this putter performs. Thanks
