Check out this new proprietary golf ball fitting tool from Morton Golf.

GOLF BALL FITTING SYSTEM

I goofed with it for a bit and found some strange suggestions.

What do you all think about it?

Seems pretty generic to me,  It recommended the Tour category and then popped up 20 different balls which basically equates to each OEM's tour and mid-tier balls being included.  Basically it recommended going to a shop and buying anything that's $30 and up and it would fit.

We just know way too much for this type of thing to be effective.  I could get it to say whatever I wanted based upon what I entered.  There's simply not enough data to get a real feel for what's right - for example how can a recommendation contain both the Pro V 1 and the Pro V 1x?  I either need the additional spin off the driver or I don't - one type fits me better than the other.

Oh well it's a nice thought.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Would be fun to create an MGS tool for doing this (and then linking it to purchase via affiliate partners to raise more dinero for our favorite spies).

Could tie it into the annual Best of review data to generate best fits for balls, wedges, drivers and putters.....

Ooo wait I changed up one of my criteria. I now qualify for every tour ball on the market.

Sweet, those 20 balls are the best fits for both of us!

That's it? 5 questions and 12 generic results? Well that really narrowed it down for me :P

Thanks a lot, Dave...

Isn't is comforting to know that you can just blindly pick a dozen balls at the shop and it will fit your game? ;)

I am not sure how but it pick my favorites both time I did this. The first time I selected price as "somewhat important" and the Titleist Velocity balls came up. The second time I selected price as "very important" and the Nike P D Long balls came up. Those are the balls I like to use because they go a long way and I hit most irons so high that stopping them when they land is not an issue. Overall, the tool did not change anything for me. If I was new and had no idea, the tool still probably would not help much because some of the suggestions are not even close to each other.

Looks like the balls have been categorized into point tiers (5-10)(11-20)(21-25)ect.... The higher the point total you generate with your answers, the firmer and less expensive balls you get. I tried a couple of different scenarios where I selected completely different answers for handicap and driving distance, and got the same results...

Good idea in theory, VERY difficult to implement accurately.

I agree, decent idea in theory, but it's very poorly executed. The results were way too generalized. I'd love to see a high quality third-party golf ball fitting tool.

Actually, I just found this. That goes into a little more depth, but still, It doesn't cut it.

It may seem like I'm biased, but really, give Wilson's ball fitting tool a try.

Not much to add to the rest of the comments but, it did direct me to balls that are a step down from tour balls. Most of them I have tried, and a few of them I used to game regularly.  Nothing wrong with them but, I prefer to play a tour quality ball. They are simply (imo) superior around and on the greens.
