Doing a little wedge grinding

It was 9Ëš this morning....just a touch too cold even for us Northerners to go golfing.

I figured I'd mess around in the shop and see if I couldn't ruin a few wedges. 

I've been wanting to try the Miura K-grind, but really didn't want to pay for it   

 

I like the way they turned out and am looking forward to trying them on the course if it warms up this weekend to anything above freezing. 

All I can say is I'm really glad I practiced on a few junk wedges first. 

I'm a pretty handy type guy.....even still.......my first couple attempts were less than stellar!

 

First attempt....completely trashed the junk wedge...

 

 

Second attempt...getting better but still ugly....

That was a learning curve! You went from "hide yo' kids' faces!" in that first pic to "Day-um, that's good" in the last pic.

What kind of conditions are you playing them in?

Right now there are lots of thinner areas in the grass and some wetter areas. Does well for me chipping and such in these areas

aka Does the club feel different in swing in addition to the difference in turf interaction...? 

I'm sure it dropped the swing weight a little....I suppose I should have measured it before grinding......that would have been useful information.  I can measure the swing weight tomorrow and see what they are now though.  They certainly do not feel light....I thought these VRpro heads felt a bit heavy to begin with.  Now they feel more like the MP52's I'm playing....so it's all good. 

 

As far as turf interaction.....I didn't get to hit more than a few balls with each club (did I mention it was freaking cold today?) but it did feel "cleaner", especially off the hard, slightly frozen ground.....though honestly that might be all mental with as few balls as I hit.  I'll give them a good workout tomorrow for sure though!

After some tinkering I calculated the four grooves removed a total of 6 grams of weight.  I think that changed it from a D5 to a D2.
