Hello from the midwest

Hi guys

New here....been doing online golf lessons/ online programs for over a year now, in hopes of getting back to golfing like I did over 2 decades ago...(not happening :( ). . Used to,lurk on this site..and decided to take the plunge.i have been golfing for over 30 years..last ten years handicap has risen due to major back surgery and new child in our family. In the mid 90's I was scratch or better..currently I'm just a casual golfer now. I lost 50 yards the last 5 years..and play the white or occasionally the red if need be. I'm all about just having fun with golf now..realizing I will never be able to play like I did over 2 decades ago. A little disheartening, but I'm a proud dad..and I'm blessed every time I can take a golf swing..realizing that a decade ago I had a major back surgery that almost prevented me from ever swinging a golf club again. From me to you..thanks for letting me join..look forward to learning a little and maybe I can help some along the way..

Cya guys on the forum

MM

Ps..I know there is a ban on the long putter..but with my back I will always use it :)... (Ban me now) ..lol

Welcome MM,

Glad to see you back in the game. Here's my shot at trying to get your spirits up...

My wife played golf in H.S. (about 40 years ago) in Spokane, WA and recreationally ever since. She was diagnosed with a condition I can't spell some 30 years ago, but back surgery wasn't very good then, so she lived with the pain. I met her about 10 years ago on the golf course and we eventually got married on a golf course. I finally convinced her to see a specialist in Seattle and she finally had the surgery 5 years ago. She still has some pain but it is manageable. I am saying this because since the surgery her HCP has dropped 9 strokes, and she beat me for the first time this year with her best round EVER. However, my HCP has gone up this year due to bad knee. Finally had it replaced last week.

Don't worry about losing the 50 yards... I never had those 50 yards, and I enjoy playing as much as I can.

Think positive! It's amazing what we can do when the desire is there.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks Kenny

I just offset distance loss by playing the up tees. Played a course this year that was 7800 from the back tees...and 5200 from the up. Guess what, I played the up.. More enjoyable for me, and that is what golf is supposed to be all about

Great story about your wife..love hearing those

Welcome. This is an allaround great group of people on here. As far as the long putter screw the USGA and The R&A! I don't use one even though I have in the past and don't give two hoots if you and anyone else does. The main thing is to have fun playing

I play in no few charity events each year . This year I might try a few men's clubs Monday am am's. I'm sure they could care less if I use a long putter. This area never recovered after the 2007 economy crash, golf has really taken a big hit. If you pay, all that matters here

Welcome.  Did the tornadoes miss you yesterday?  I grew up in eastern IL, where I-70 crosses into IN.

Just south of us..it was terrible. They found old newspapers and mail a 100 miles north of the tornado. It blew stuff from those cities almost to Chicago,,

Say a prayer for the families there..it was like a bomb hit..literally

Unfortunately I know that all too well.  In 2006 we had an F4 go through that ended the lives of 27 people.  It had a mile wide base and was on the ground for 41 miles.  My family and I were lucky enough to only sustain minimal damage, but the majority of the city was demolished.

I missed the first time around also.  Weather was probably nice here so I was playing golf.  Cold and wet so I am lurking the forums today.  I have read your posts on other threads and glad to meet you and welcome also somewhat belatedly to the forum.

I have not done a welcome thread yet.  Probably too late for me.  Haha.

A belated welcome and I love that anti-casting video you posted.  Immediate improvement with the irons--got some snap back with them and much more accurate through two rounds.  And I think a club's worth of extra distance.  Still working on the woods and hybrid, though, clubface contact is all over the place.  Need some range work, if it will every stop raining or blowing here (6 weeks of northeasters now, interspersed with a few days of rain).

Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts.
