So far my GolfSpy fantasy golf season is going much better than my GolfSpy fantasy football season did. Maybe the fantasy powers that be are throwing me a bone.

I took a look at the managers names and see there are some guys/gals here that have won trophies before playing this game. Competition is going to be very good!

Whoever picked Patrick Reed this week in fantasy, my hats off.  What a great 4 days for him on the course and also in fantasy land. I really could have used him as I find myself going down the leader board really quick this season, I just hope it's not this bad for me all season or it's going to be a long season!

I've got a bone to pick... We're how many weeks into the season, 5, and people are already bailing out and not making picks??? If you can't play every week then why sign up and take away spots from people who actually want to play?  It's a long season and takes commitment but it literally takes 5 minutes to pick a team each week.  It's a bummer too that we don't have a full 50 players either but it is what it is.  I just hope by the end of the season there aren't 10 of us left making picks and everyone else has given up.

First off, if there had been more people wanting to play than JBones would have created another flight just like last year.  You are right on two counts, it is a long season.  33 weeks is a long time to participate in something every week.  Also it does just take 5 minutes to make picks, but if you plan on winning it takes considerably longer.

 

To do well, you have to pay attention to the courses they are playing, the expected weather, tee times, how the player is playing and has played on that course or that type of course, physical condition of the players, etc.  This takes considerably more than 5 minutes.  I have spent more than an hour researching before the round and several more than 5 during the round managing my team, because you also have to manage your team during the weekend.  I was really into this last summer and ended up winning the summer segment and coming in second over all.  But, honestly, I am having my doubts this year about if it is worth the effort.  There are apparently no prizes for winning.  At least last year's were not awarded.  And there has been no promises for this year.

 

I lost interest this weekend and while I enjoyed the round on Sunday, I would have enjoyed it more if I would have managed my team Friday and Saturday night like I had planned. But it is a lot of work bragging rights.  I am tempted to drop out myself.

I'm impressed on the time you put in Rover, for me I read some of the "expert" picks and then select mine.  I change players after every round based on my instincts and I do it all on my phone so I guess that is where I came up with the 5 minutes.  I can't imagine putting in the time you do but then again I've never finished top 3.  I don't do it for the prizes either, thats a perk I guess but I think it's more fun than anything because it keeps me interested each week.  I'm just suprised that each year we seem to lose more and more players in the MGS fantasy and maybe it's because of the prizes not there anymore or maybe the long season but either way I just had to say something.

I played last year for the first time.  And at first I just sort of picked who I liked.  But when I found myself near the top about half way through the season I became more serious about it.  Then towards the end, I noticed that the top guys kept picking the same guys as I did.  I had to make up 200 points in the playoffs.  That meant that not only did I have to figure out who to pick, I had to find players that were going to play better than the marque players that everyone was going to pick.  I made up 180 something points and came up less than 20 points of first overall.

 

For whatever reason the passion just is not there this year for me, and I was really ready at the end of last season.  I keep submitting picks and hope the fire comes back, but right now I am just going through the motions.
