MYGOLFSPY 2014 - Past & Present & Future

Man...where do I even begin. Been an odd year for us and I am sure as a result an odd year for you on MGS as well.  Lots of things have changed over the past 12 months.  And unfortunately for you guys some of those changes resulted in less reviews, fewer labs and fewer of a lot of other things you originally came to MyGolfSpy to see and read.

Part of me is incredibly ashamed, part of me hates that I have disappointed you guys and part of me wants to apologize.  But, I don't believe much in apologies or sorries.  If you say you are going to do something in my world you do it.  If not, shut up and stop talking.  I don't want to build a reputation on what I talk about doing, I want it built on what I do.

And this year I think the readers perception might be that we talked more then we did.  And that is what truly disappoints me.  But, fortunately, behind all the talk about big changes there actually were big changes going on, problem is they took longer then I would have liked for them to come to fruition.  And even worse if YOU the reader can't see those changes then they do no good for YOU.

But that is all changing now and oddly enough it is coming all to a head basically as a brand new year starts.  I haven't been this excited in quite some time.  This past year was tough for me, it was stagnant and I don't deal with stagnant well.  I want to give you guys what you want yesterday not tomorrow.  But being the type of business we are I have had to come to grips with slower growth.  Is what it is unfortunately.

- So first, I want to say thank you for sticking with us around the forums in 2013

- Secondly, there is going to be a LOT of new and exciting things happening in '14 and beyond

- "Phase 1" (first 5 years) of MyGolfSpy is over and "Phase 2" (next 2 years) is going to blow you away ;)

COUPLE OF NEW THINGS:

Not going to list all of the changes that will be happening, want to keep some things a secret.  But here are a couple things that will allow us to deliver more of what you want to see:

1. MyGolfSpy Dedicated Test Facility - Can not even begin to tell you how stoked I am for this.  Starting in early 2014 MyGolfSpy will be opening our own "Test Facility".  This will be a game changer that will allow us to deliver exactly what you guys want to see.  You ask for it, we will test it and give you the data.  Sound good?

You want a head-to-head? Done.  You want a "Lab" idea tested? We got you covered!  You want to test a ball?  A shaft?  Done.

2. New & Revolutionary! MyGolfSpy Website - I want to revolutionize how the golfer gets his content.  And I feel the new website I have in mind will deliver just that.  Times have changed and so has how you guys want info delivered to you.  Up to this point no other golf media outlet has delivered a site that fits those changes.  I think you guys are gonna dig what we have been working on.

3. Tons of More Reviews - If it is made for the golfer we plan on putting it to the test to tell you whether it is worth your hard earned money.  This plan is going to take a few months to show up on the site but you are alredy starting to see the early stages of the plan.

4. Entirely New Categories - some of these I am really excited about and you will learn more about over the next couple months.  But I can say this, one of the categories is something no ones else is doing and it is all about giving you for free what others makes the industry pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for the right to see.

5. More Staff Members - Interested in being apart of the MyGolfSpy team?  Well, we're going to be looking for a few passionate men/women.  MyGolfSpy's "Proof of Concept" phase is ending, and the part about making actual industry wide change is now in motion.  I have a plan on how I want to change this industry and I am going to be looking for other people that feel the same way.

6. What Seems Like Hundreds More # Items More - I don't want to bore you with the list that is sitting in front of me of things that are going to be happening on MyGolfSpy in "Phase 2" of our operation.  So, let's just say that if you stuck around for 2013 you are going to definitely want to be here for 2014.

I am incredibly excited for 2014 and even more excited for you guys to be a part of this change.

P.S. - As always if there is something you want to see us try and change or see as coverage on MyGolfSpy, we are always listening and implementing your advice.  So let's hear it.

I'm not going anywhere, no one is perfect, we take the downs with the ups, learn from the downs and take the next step. I am with you 100% - no one else offers this kind of info nor has a member chat room as knowledgeable.

Keep up the good work in 2014 and thanks for all you do...

I joined last year because I thought it was the best site with good people and a reasonable approach to equipment testing. If it is going to be better, lucky me!

Assuming you are taking this out of context by your response.  This is regarding me personally as stated in what I wrote:

"Part of me is incredibly ashamed, part of me hates that I have disappointed you guys and part of me wants to apologize.  But, I don't believe much in apologies or sorries.  If you say you are going to do something in my world you do it.  If not, shut up and stop talking."

You say shut up and stop talking.   What kind of a forum is this.  Very interesting

The test facility sounds amazing.  Maybe the first test can be to prove that off the rack clubs with inferior shafts will not keep adding distance year after year after year after year after...you get the point :)

Thanks for the past. Been very helpful and fun for myself as a regular golfer...The future looks bright for you guys as well...Having said that, I would like to see you guys create a section for products, testing, reviews, etc., that would help benefit a golfer that is in the 10-20 (or above) handicap range, such as myself. Perhaps this means bringing on a few staff members that have a knowledge and love of the game, but simply aren't able to shoot really low scores. In my opinion, it seems that a lot of information is more technical and geared towards those that shoot low scores. Perhaps there is something like what I'm asking for already, I just have not noticed it. I like all the information you have provided, but some product is not realistic for me (i.e. blades).

But overall, great work and keep it going. I always look forward to seeing new products, no matter what skill level.

MGS - I was pretty taken aback when I opened my e-mail and read the initial sentences from you and heartened when the thoughts continued.

While not a frequent contributing poster / member, the info from your site has lead me, much to the delight of the major/minor oem's. to purchase equipment based on your exhausting reviews

In addition your Fantasy Golf sponsorship, which I cleaned up on 3 years ago, is my crack. I can't begin too tell you what I had to go through while on the road to find an internet connection so that I could make or change my team and to also not miss a week.

Wishing you continued success in 2014 and thanks for thinking that you need to set the bar even higher.

By the way - Six Sigma sound familiar ?

Happy New Year - Rob
