13 Club Contract: Who Would You Choose?

The Swoosh, The Roadrunner, or The Chevron?

I am willing to bet that most of us play more than one equipment company's gear. But what if you had to play 13 clubs (no putter) from one company? Which company's 2014 offerings do you think would best suit your game and your sense of aesthetics?

Don't get into whatever the fitter says mode. We know that's the ideal answer. I'm just looking for impulsive speculation. Is there a batch of 13 that catches your eye and draws you to demo days? Show us your 2014 set-up, and let us hear your reasons.

Driver:

Woods:

Hybrid(s):

Irons:

Wedges:

NOTE: If you feel the need to post that you are just going to stick to your current gear. This is for fun. We are having a theoretical discussion. Nobody is coming to your house, taking your current gear, and forcing you to play what you list.

Statements made in this thread are non-binding :)

I'm am all Taylor made after seeing and hitting their new stuff. Hard for me to say that because of how much I love Nike but my 2014 bag would be:

SLDR driver and fairway woods

tour preferred CB 3 iron

Tour preferred MC 4-9 irons

Tour preferred MB pitching wedge

Tour preferred 52, and 56 wedges

And I'll even game the new ghost tour Daytona putter with the counterbalanced daddy long legs grip

Driver:   :callaway-small: Epic 10.5 set to 9.5 w/ Tour AD-DI 44.5

FW:   :cobra-small: F6 baffler set at 16º

Hybrid:  NONE
Irons:   :taylormade-small:  3i 2014 TP CB  4-PW 2011 TP MC w/ TT S400

Wedges:   :nike-small: 52º :nike-small: 56º  :edel-golf-1: 60 º w/ KBS C-Taper XS Soft-stepped

My initial immediate thoughts work tailor-made. I want a slider. Their fairway woods are good. The tour preferred irons also really peaked my interest The problem is I have always hated their wedges. After Potter, the wedges are the most important clubs in my bag. However, after giving it much thought, I think I have to go with Callaway. I think I could get the same results as a slider with the new Alpha. Their Fairway Woods Have always been great. The apex irons are probably my favorite irons out this year. I also really like the Mack daddy 2 wedges. However if I were to do this, I would want full on pro treatment custom fitting for all of it. MGS let's make this happen! We've had a lot of Taylor-made guinea pigs on the site lately. I will personally volunteer myself to be the first person to do the same sort of thing with Callaway. I know it will be tough but I think I can do it! (Ha).

Big Bertha alpha driver.

Big Bertha pro fairway.

Not sure on hybrid. Maybe x2hot pro.

Apex pro irons 4-pw

Mack daddy 2 wedges. 52c, 57c, 62u

It's all about the short game, unless you can't keep it in play!

What's in my Bag:
Driver: Adams Speedline Super LS 10.5 with Excalibur T7+ tour stiff shaft
3 Wood: Adams Speedline Super LS 13 degree with Excalibur TFW Tour stiff shaft
Hybrid: Nickent 6DT 19 degree Aldilla Voodoo NV Stiff shaft
Irons: 4-9 KZG Tour Evolution with Nippon N.S. Pro Modus 3 tour 120 x flex shafts
Wedges:49 degree Dave Pelz wedge with a Nippon N.S. Pro Modus tour 120 x flex shaft. 54,64 Dave Pelz wedges with Rifle spinner shafts 59 Degree Scor wedge with rifle spinner shaft.
Putter: Bentinardi Ben Hogan Big Ben Center shafted 33 inches with best grips custom pistol putter grip.

Ball: Titleist Pro V1X, Callaway Hex Chrome +

Gotta go ping. Best overall total package. Yeah, you are going to maybe leave some distance on the table but the iron performance will make up for it.

Driver: i25

Not because of the other thread running right now, I'd go nike. I could realistically go with any OEM and find my happy place, but what draws me most to Nike are the new forged Pro Combos.

That being said:

Driver: Covert Tour 2.0 10.5

FW: Covert Tour 2.0 strong 3w

Hybrid: Covert Tour 2.0 set to 19*

Irons: Pro Combos 4-pw with KBS Tour-V

Wedges: VR Forged Tour

Driver: TaylorMade R9 9.5* with a Diamana Kai'li 70 S shaft

Fairway: TaylorMade R9 TP 13* with Graphite Design Tour AD YSQ-st X flex

UtilityWilson Staff FYbrid 19.5* Aldila RIP Sigma Stiff

Irons: Wilson Staff FG Tour V2 KBS Tour X flex 4-pw (soft-stepped)

Wedges: Wilson Staff FG Tour TC 50* (standard grind, bent to 51*) TT DG Spinner, 56* and 60* (tour grinds, bent to 55* and 59*) Dynamic Gold Wedge flex

Putter: Yes! Abbie Tour Forged Pro Series 33"

Ball: Wilson Staff FG Tour, Maxfli U4

Bag: Wilson Staff NeXus 100th Anniversary carry bag

Backup Irons: Wilson Staff FG-17 Tour Blades with TT Dynamic Stiff 3-PW

Backup Utility: Mizuno MP-H4 2 iron TT Dynamic Gold R300

Backup Putter: Pro Gear CG 100 33" (Pro Gear is what turned into Yes!)

I'd likely go Callaway right now.  The TMag lineup past driver doesn't do it for me (I've hit them all).  The wedges, to me, are terrible.  The irons are so-so and the speed pocket hurts the CB and MC lines for me (creates a gap where the transition from pocket and no pocket takes place).  The fairways this year don't impress me.  Course if we're talking being able to use both Adams and TMag, since they're under the same hat there might be a different story.

The Nikes, I haven't hit the Covert 2 line.  The irons haven't felt right to me since the original forged blades. Wedges are good.  But the middle of the bag is where the meat is at.

I'd likely go Callaway.  The new drivers and FM are spectacular to the eye.  The iron line-ups are appealing as well, and the wedges, well Roger Cleveland can make anything if they don't already offer it.  That's likely where I'd go for a 13 club deal.

In The Bag
Driver: TaylorMade M2 (2017) w/ Project X T1100 HZRDUS Handcrafted 65x
Strong 3 wood: Taylormade M1 15* w/ ProjectX T1100 HZRDUS handcrafted 75x
3 Hybrid: Adams PRO 18* w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4 Hybrid: Adams PRO 20* (bent to 21*) w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4-AW: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black Onyx S400

SW: 56* Scratch Tour Dept(CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
LW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
XW: 64* Cally XForged Vintage w/ DG X100 8 iron tiger stepped
Putter: Nike Method Prototype 006 at 34"

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

This is really too early for me, but if I had to venture a guess:

Callaway Big Bertha 10.5

Titleist 910 FW 17*

TaylorMade SLDR 18.5 HB

TaylorMade SpeedBlades

Callaway X-Forged Wedges (box grooves)

13 clubs from 1 company... LOL.

If you start from the bottom of the bag and work backwards, putters and wedges would be Nike or Callaway/Odyssey, with an edge to Callaway.  Ditto for the wedges, although I haven't seen the new TMag wedges in person - but they do look sweet.

I've hit just about every iron that's available so far (I have that kind of time  )…the Tour Preffered demo's were awesome and I've always like the Nike Pro Combos, but the iron that's jumped into my arms and said "whack me" is the Apex.

All over the map when it comes to the big sticks.  Haven't hit any of those, but if we have to stay within the same manufacturer, I'd have to pick Callaway, but from what the boys have been saying about their trip to the Kingdom, and early reports on the Covert - this would be one darned close competition...

So, with a gun to my head:

Big Bertha Alpha

XHot2 hybrids

Apex/Apex Pro irons

Mac Daddy wedges

Odyssey #9 type putter

I know it's early, but amazing that nobody has mentioned Cobra.

Very solid metalwoods (BiOCell+ Fairway is very intriguing)

top-tier iron offerings, and arguably the best wedges (Tour Trusty) on the market right now.

There is no weakness in the lineup.

I think I would end up with callaway... (Was tempted to go with either tmade or titleist... but callaway won out)

The proposed bag:

Big Bertha alpha driver.
Big Bertha pro fairway.
Apex pro irons 3-pw
Mack daddy 2 wedges. 50c, 56c, 60u

I had to resist my predictable Wilson Staff urges here. When I hit the new stuff at their demo day in Feb in WI I'll maybe have to reevaluate my entire life.

It's interesting that cobra didn't really come to mind as a possibility even though I like all of their clubs... (perhaps if it was an apparel and club deal I would have thought longer)

Best wedges?  Come on man!

I know Jose ground you some special but this is a statement that just cannot be backed up by their current wedge offerings.

This is really hard because if I were building my ideal set I'd have many different companies represented. But if you're forcing me to stick to one, I'll go Callaway.

Driver: BB Alpha

3-4 Woods: Big Bertha (to go 245/230)

Irons: X Prototype Utility 18/21° (for 215/200 distances)

Apex irons customized for 185/170/155 distances

Wedges: Mack Daddy 2 45/50/55/60/64°

I would go with Adams as I am most of the way there now with my bag. Add the new XTD driver and some wedges and I will be all set.

   M5 15* Evenflow Black 75g 6.5

This is tough for me because all companies have their goods and bads. I was thinking Titleist since they are dependable but I'm going with PING because their lineup looks really good this year and I like their S55's a lot.

Driver- PING i25
3 wood- PING i25
Hybrid- PING Anser or i25
Irons- PING S55
Wedges- PING Gorge
Putter- keep my current putter

I realize this may be a little bizarre considering I have no PING clubs in my bag. I've only owned a couple of their clubs but I remember a quote from one of the main Spies on here, it was something like, "I'm surprised I don't own any PING clubs."

Honestly, the wedges are my only hold up...

I could easily go old school adams (considering my bag already contains a Fast 12ls driver and an XTD three wood). I love the CMBs and could bag them no problem... I've never hit an Adams wedge though!

Callaway would probably be my "today" choice. I've always loved their wedges and putters... the Alpha would find a place in my bag, and I'm sure I could make the 3 wood and hybrid work. I'm indifferent to irons.

I could also easily do a full Wishon bag.

Mavrik 9 degree - Ventus Black 7X

Mavrik 13.5 Degree - Hazardus Smoke

Sub70 19 degree - Proforce V2 8F5

Sub70 4u - Proforce V2 8F5

Sub70 5i - DG S400

Adams CMB 6-GW - Project X 6.0

Sub70 54 (286) and 58 (JB Low Bounce) - S300

SeeMore Trimetal Mallet (Custom fit and built... Kudos to Cody)

And as always, Kudos to Craigers.

I am normally a callaway guy. But.i love 2014 TMag. I would go Sldr 430 driver, jetspeed 3 wood, 3,4 sldr hybrids, 5 - PW Tour preferred MC irons. And the tour preferred wedges.

Driver:         Taylormade SIM 8^  Shaft: Evolution III 6X

3 Wood:      Titleist  TSi3 13.5^   Shaft:  Project X Smoke Black RDX 6.5

2 Hybrid:     Callaway Mavrik Pro  Shaft: Project X EvenFlow Black 85X

3/5 Hybrid: Titleist 816 H2            Shaft: Mitsubishi Diamana Whiteboard 85X

Irons:           Taylormade P790      Shaft: UST Recoil 110 S (6-PW)

50 Degree: Taylormade P770       Shaft: UST Recoil 110 S

This is not easy because it takes SCOR off the table and I'm sold on their wedges at the bottom of my set.  Given that I've played Ping Tour wedges before and am currently bagging I20's I'm going Ping but in the real world I'll stick with the ability to mix and match. :)

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

I'll bite, and I actually would choose Cobra. I've hit the new Biocells and loved them. For me:

-Driver: BioCell+ Stiff

-FMs: BioCell 3/4W Stiff

-Hy: BioCell 3/4H Stiff

-Irons: Combo set of BioCell 5-6i, BioCell+ 7-GW Stiff

-Wedges: Tour Trusty 54,58,62

...and I'd go with Blue...
