SPY VIP GolfSpy Dave Posted February 1, 2014 SPY VIP Share Posted February 1, 2014 The Swoosh, The Roadrunner, or The Chevron? I am willing to bet that most of us play more than one equipment company's gear. But what if you had to play 13 clubs (no putter) from one company? Which company's 2014 offerings do you think would best suit your game and your sense of aesthetics? Don't get into whatever the fitter says mode. We know that's the ideal answer. I'm just looking for impulsive speculation. Is there a batch of 13 that catches your eye and draws you to demo days? Show us your 2014 set-up, and let us hear your reasons. Rickles
My initial immediate thoughts work tailor-made. I want a slider. Their fairway woods are good. The tour preferred irons also really peaked my interest The problem is I have always hated their wedges. After Potter, the wedges are the most important clubs in my bag. However, after giving it much thought, I think I have to go with Callaway. I think I could get the same results as a slider with the new Alpha. Their Fairway Woods Have always been great. The apex irons are probably my favorite irons out this year. I also really like the Mack daddy 2 wedges. However if I were to do this, I would want full on pro treatment custom fitting for all of it. MGS let's make this happen! We've had a lot of Taylor-made guinea pigs on the site lately. I will personally volunteer myself to be the first person to do the same sort of thing with Callaway. I know it will be tough but I think I can do it! (Ha). Big Bertha alpha driver. Big Bertha pro fairway. Not sure on hybrid. Maybe x2hot pro. Apex pro irons 4-pw Mack daddy 2 wedges. 52c, 57c, 62u It's all about the short game, unless you can't keep it in play! What's in my Bag:Driver: Adams Speedline Super LS 10.5 with Excalibur T7+ tour stiff shaft3 Wood: Adams Speedline Super LS 13 degree with Excalibur TFW Tour stiff shaftHybrid: Nickent 6DT 19 degree Aldilla Voodoo NV Stiff shaftIrons: 4-9 KZG Tour Evolution with Nippon N.S. Paul S
Not because of the other thread running right now, I'd go nike. RookieBlue7
I'd likely go Callaway right now. The TMag lineup past driver doesn't do it for me (I've hit them all). The wedges, to me, are terrible. The irons are so-so and the speed pocket hurts the CB and MC lines for me (creates a gap where the transition from pocket and no pocket takes place). The fairways this year don't impress me. Course if we're talking being able to use both Adams and TMag, since they're under the same hat there might be a different story. The Nikes, I haven't hit the Covert 2 line. The irons haven't felt right to me since the original forged blades. Wedges are good. But the middle of the bag is where the meat is at. I'd likely go Callaway. The new drivers and FM are spectacular to the eye. The iron line-ups are appealing as well, and the wedges, well Roger Cleveland can make anything if they don't already offer it. That's likely where I'd go for a 13 club deal. GolfSpy Barbajo
If you start from the bottom of the bag and work backwards, putters and wedges would be Nike or Callaway/Odyssey, with an edge to Callaway. Ditto for the wedges, although I haven't seen the new TMag wedges in person - but they do look sweet. I've hit just about every iron that's available so far (I have that kind of time )…the Tour Preffered demo's were awesome and I've always like the Nike Pro Combos, but the iron that's jumped into my arms and said "whack me" is the Apex. All over the map when it comes to the big sticks. Haven't hit any of those, but if we have to stay within the same manufacturer, I'd have to pick Callaway, but from what the boys have been saying about their trip to the Kingdom, and early reports on the Covert - this would be one darned close competition... myherobobhope
Honestly, the wedges are my only hold up... I could easily go old school adams (considering my bag already contains a Fast 12ls driver and an XTD three wood). I love the CMBs and could bag them no problem... I've never hit an Adams wedge though! Callaway would probably be my "today" choice. I've always loved their wedges and putters... the Alpha would find a place in my bag, and I'm sure I could make the 3 wood and hybrid work. I'm indifferent to irons. I could also easily do a full Wishon bag.
