Txstcatman
What's the best way I can get onto Torrey Pines? My wife and I will be traveling to San Diego, staying from July 10-13. I've decided I HAVE to get on at TP, just for a golf bucket list. I'll probably also play Balboa since it's also close to our hotel, Town and Country, across from Riverwalk GC. Tecolote is also really close. We'll also be flying to Portland, OR where I plan a round at Heron Lakes (played Big Blue last trip there). Any tips? Take photos, please I plan to! Especially if I get on at Torrey. I'm going to annoy my playing partners on near every hole looking for a picturesque view that I can take a shot from. I visited Portland a couple summers ago and loved it. Played a neat little track, Eastmoreland, and Big Blue out at Heron Lakes. Might try some of the other big name courses for fun. kbosecker
I would consider getting a car. There are so many nice courses nearby (driving) it would give you more opportunity. Dan - maybe we should make field trip? Other nice tracks Mt. Woodson, Barona, Sycuan -- all of the indian casinos have nice golf courses now. You might be able to pick up one of there buses in town. Madera, La Costa -- shoot you can't throw a rock with out hitting a golf course in San Diego. Torrey is a challenge to get on but you can work through brokers to get a time. kbosecker
Txst - After I fired of the post earlier I thought more about Torrey - if you are a single you have a fighting chance of walking on. From the web site -- Walk-on Waiting ListDepending on the time of year, we reserve the first half-hour, to an hour of sunlight for walk-ups. All tee times, Prior to reservations, are filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Players must arrive early to ensure the best possible opportunity to play prior to reservations starting. Hope it works out for you.
Txstcatman
Thanks, I've read the same thing, about people walking on. It's a bucket list course for me, so the out-of-state rate for me isn't as big a deal. Guess I'll see how it all works out. Mfrye
I just played Torrey this past Sunday, they only had the North Course open because of a charity tournament on south. I got to the course at 12:30 teed off at 1:30 as a walk on single. its fairly easy to walk on as a single there right now even with the furor of farmers open on everyone's mind. I havent played there over the summer yet but I doubt it will be that much different. I would get a car though, a cab ride from Town and Country (my old work) to Torrey pines is going to cost as much as a rental car for the day. ($60+) One of my Favorite courses though is Riverwalk if you get to play Mission/Friars (names of two of the 9hole courses) its a nice challenge and tempting to try for the green on 3 on mission if wind is at your back. DONT DO IT! lol balboa is a great course tucked into the canyons, but Tecelote is a s*** hole especially in the summer dont waste time or energy there. Oh and dont use the tee time brokers to get a time at torrey you can just call and book ahead if you really want to and pay a smaller fee through the course itself
