Putter Stamps Gone Wild!

Recommended Posts

The putters I personally own.. The less the better. When I look down I don`t want to see any stamping. This is my favorite putter

Hey Steve, great looking blade.

I definitely agree that as much as I love stamping, I don't want to see anything from address.

Owning a putter company I have to give my two cents. LOL

1. Some people put a few miner stamps, maybe a nickname or statement. They are happy on down the road.

2. The guys that go overboard on the stamps eventually end up ordering another putter with much less stamping saying that their first one was too busy. I try and tell everyone I talk to about this, but in the end it is up to them.

3. I do not like snow either.

Great post. I haven't stamped any putter I own yet but I will definitely follow your advice. Don't discount the guy who talked about resale. Hey, tastes change over time and unless you have the money to collect putters and not have to sell them to reinvest in a new stick, then stamping is not something you should do unless the stamping you've done will appeal to others.

Initials do seem to kill value. Some of the makers and refinishers can do some cool things to cover some of it up. It may just be though if your name is Will Smith and you buy a cool putter with initials, you will now be known as "JR"

If seeking a gamer, and you don't mind the initials, you can score a great putter at a deep discount. If you do then sell it, you can probably get close to what you paid for it.

Very true, if you don't care about other people's names/initials, you can get good bargains. It's also true the some refinishers do a great job getting rid of old initials. I sold a putter to someone because the initials on the face bothered me and he had Kevin Colbert re-mill the face and you've never know they were there. Obviously, that took off some weight, but it worked out nicely.

I think I saw that one on PT. I was also thinking of the one that Byron did for someone as a remodel. Extra stamps. Changed the cavity stamping. Added colors. I am having issues with photos on PT after they changed design. OTw I would go find the one I am talking about. Funky would know.

I'll look for it. I seem to remember Byron adding stamping to the face to make a larger image out of stamps, covering the initials.

Man, this is supposed to be a "Show what you got" thread, right, LOL.

I am not a huge fan of snow, but on the right putter and put there by the right guy, I LOVE it. Here is one that I received from Tad Moore, this past December. My brother made friends with him and introduced me, last year, sometime. By the time Christmas rolled around, Tad thought enough of our family of golfers to put three handmades together and send them West a surprise Christmas presents. My dad, my older brother and myself, all wound up with a putter that would have been BIG $$$$$ back in the 80's, if you remember those days. He left them raw and did all of the stamping, himself. He knew that each of us would wind up putting some of our personality in them, through finish, paint fill or even some face work. I chose to give the face a milling pattern that I won't see on the guy next to me's putter, anytime soon, I am certain. She is in paint fill, right now, then headed to the new bag.

I'll keep you posted on how she turns out and how sweet she rolls the rock.

Thanks all,

LaMont in AZ

Quite a beauty, even without paint.

I think the snow, without paint adds nice texture to the top view. Helps make the topline and cavity stand out.

Agreed on all points, particularly that the snow looks good without paint. It's more of a texture than anything else, and I think that looks really nice.

IN the photo, it just reminds me of the hammered copper area in the other putter thread. Both very pleasing to my eye.

As in it falls off the back of the cart and the guy behind you runs over it? LOL, that certainly adds character, no thanks.

I would be ill if my LOL had road stamping. You are a bad putter sitter. More compassion and care for the flat blade.

You need to buy an expensive one so you can become overly protective like me.

Overly protective? Let me guess...every night before you go to bed... cuddle it a bit, oil cloth, wipe off excess with a ShamWow, and then store safely in it's head cover and a cocoon of bubble wrap until morning. Am I close?

Close. Bubble wrap is OK for Summer, but in the colder months, LOL likes a Snuggieâ„¢
