Putter Stamps Gone Wild!

Recommended Posts

Overly protective? Let me guess...every night before you go to bed... cuddle it a bit, oil cloth, wipe off excess with a ShamWow, and then store safely in it's head cover and a cocoon of bubble wrap until morning. Am I close?

Are you trying to imply that this isn't normal behavior?

While I tend to feel the same as most when you talk about "snow" on a putter, I'm old enough to remember that there was a reason this was done, at least in the case of Truett Mills, where it was done to reduce some of the glare on the flange of putters he hand made that were finished in black oxide, which in his case were pretty shiny. My experience says that it really did not do that much to reduce the glare as was intended but that was the reason none the less.

The past few years however, it has been done to death and a great number of classic putters have been scarred for life which is pretty sad in more than a few cases.

I'm a fan of very few or no stamps outside of the makers name, maybe model etc. If you have all stamped up with personal stuff, you better be sure you love it, because it is a resale value killer.

Thanks you for this. I had no idea where the snow idea came from. I, personally, would prefer glare. It would only be distracting some of the time. Snow on the other hand...

I did stamp "snow" on this old Spalding for what ever reason but over time I wish I would have left it alone and I know I would not do it again to one I own.

Very well done, but I agree with you that it takes away from the beautiful lines of the putter.

Snow lovers will, of course, disagree.

What to you think about the additional painted line on the top line of the later models? I had associated the dot/oval top with the MIlls and I was surprised when I found one with the top line. Seemed unnecessary to me.

You did that yourself? While I'm "anti-snow" I think that looks really nice. Very good work!

Yes, I added it to that one. I looked ok, but I'm too much of a old school guy when it comes to clubs and I always wished I had not done it later on.

Is that a TPM #1 or #2?

That was a No.1

Wow....As I was digging through old pictures, I dicovered that I had done it to another No.1 at some point. Someone must have liked it as I sold them both some time ago.

My Wishon / Mannkrafted by LaMont and Morgan,Christmas putter.

I received this as a Christmas present and wanted it to reflect the spirit of the season.

While it is very colorful,on the bottom, if you think about the colors of the bulbs on the Christmas Tree you will understand my choices, bright as they are.

The top is all business as it should be, black with a white aiming mark - you could not ask for a more unique and personal putter.

That's a very cool putter. I like the Christmas trees and the rainbow colors.

This one has minor stamping and some engraving...

Sactown...wow. Super, super sick. The paintfill with the copper looks AMAZING! I also like the latin stamping. I feel like at least half the custom Byrons I see have something that makes me say, "Why didn't I think of that...I want that on my next one" which means there will always be a next one!
