SLDR - Jetspeed.....so quite good then?

All,

It would appear plenty of you have been securing SLDR's of late, so go on then is it that good really?

I've still got a 2009 TM Burner in the bag and it's ok, straight but not overly long - but then I only have a 95mph swing speed so I'm not expecting 330 off the tee.

Any of you SLDR users try Jetspeed? The stock 46 inch shaft doesn't really put me off - same size I'm used to anyway in the 09 burner.

Going to book a launch monitor session to look at both next week and with the 30 day money back offer currently in place it's really tempting.

Go on then any views? Rev seems sold!

If the shaft length isn't an issue, I would absolutely give the JetSpeed a whirl.  I couldn't consistently hit it, but I prefer shorter shafts.

I couldn't find the center of the club with the Jetspeed but my current driver is 44.5.  Why wouldnt' you give any available option a try?

I will certainly try jetspeed, SLDR and SLDR 430. It's be good to see a few more views on jetspeed.....the most wanted test surprised me I thought it's be up there but perhaps those stock shafts stood against it?

In truth any driver that can get me in mid iron range is a winner for me - that's where I'm good, leave me with a 6, 7, 8 or 9 and I'm better than most - due to how straight I hit it. Not long but I don't miss wide very often.

But like everyone else I'd like a few more yards to mitigate my advancing age and cr@ppy back!

I'd look hard at the G25 too. In every test I've done in the last few months, the G25 never failed to impress and make any decision hard, no matter what I compared it too.

The problem (IMO) right now, is that the difference from the best to worst in driver distances is so small that is is near impossible to declare a best.

Love the look, but can't make it work for me - g25 and i20 were spin tastic. Straight, lovely to look at but just can't get a shaft combo that works for me. I'd really love to have the i20 in the bag.....it's so sexy!

I'm a ping convert so it hurts that they aren't right for me.

No one is making "bad" equipment in this day and age. If they do, they aren't going to be around much longer in this golf economy. The Ping heads are not high spin at all, so that was just a bad setup for you, apparently.

Most everyone that seems to glean yardage the common denominator will be going through a fitting. Whichever brand you settle on. If you are a really high spin player, these heads will help. How much spin mitigation for a 90's swing speed player is still up for debate. I personally don't want too low spin. The less spin you have to work with, the less forgiving.

I can hit about anything, and the SLDR feels very unforgiving to me from my very brief encounters with it. I can't even remember the last club I felt so inept with. I play close to scratch, so I feel that is saying something for me at least. I'll give the 12º a chance before I write it off totally. Still have my '07 Burner TP and R11s TP, and not feeling overly compelled to try JetSpeed just to get into a TM. Loving my G25/DI7 combo and even that is so good the i25 would have to be bananas good to switch. I'm just finding a little spin is still good for me. Quite happy with the G25 and even if it isn't as long as it can possibly be for me, it is a great performer on course where it counts for me and not on a LM.

I actually hit the SLDR 430, SLDR and JetSpeed this weekend on a track man and the Jet Speed was in the middle of the pack with the SLDR 430 being the winner.  I compared all three to my R1 and as I would have expected the R1 was the winner out of all three, but then again I was fitted properly for that I have been playing it for about a year and have the most comfort with it.  My impression of the Jet Speed was that it was a nice driver and had a lively head, but really did not care for the three shafts that I tried in it.  Would have loved to give it a go with the Matrix Black tie.

I tried everything - I honestly think that the it is a combination of the shaft being too long, mitigated that by gripping down and too light.  My R11s has a heavier shaft to reduce spin.  I fits me.

If I were Westy I'd still try the Jetspeed - just because it doesn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for him.

I have a friend that has a swing that sounds similar to yours and he bought the RBZ Stage 2 last year and it killed his  R11 in distance and accuracy. I'm not sure about the Jet Speed but I know he hit the SLDR and the RBZ was still a better fit for him. Maybe try to find one on the clearance rack and give it a try.

Well I'm a man for a bargain! So hell I'll try anything, my last flightscope session had the nike vr pro ii as the longest and straightest, but not by enough to warrant spending money.

The longest I've ever tried was an i20 fitted with px 5.5, it was also the widest. 25 yards longer than my burner, but didn't hit one within 20 yards of the centre. It was crazy how far right it went, time after time out of the middle of the club.

Will try rbz 2, hated rbz 1 mind - the noise alone was enough to make me want to not want to bit it!

I've got a SLDR and when I nut it, boom goes the dynamite. More loft than my trusty Superfast 2.0 as well so it doesn't want to veer offline as much. I'm trying to find a 12* 439 head now. Loft up is necessary due to the low/low head it is

Jetspeed was the last driver I intended to hit., and now it's in my bag. I played it yesterday after a three day storm. Had 3-4 shots 20 yards longer than I've ever been before with my i20. Off center hits went to normal i20 lengths. This all on a totally saturated fairway..

I'm totally digging Bennie, the jet.

Oh I think they still had some roll out, maybe not quite as much.

I just got back from the range and I was experimenting with the loft. I turned it to the opposite and went to 11*.

So different! Hit ball after ball off the 250 fence, but they were on the way down so it will be hard to tell until I get on the course again. Not a balloon shot, just high and deep. Like some of those old Micky mantle towering home runs... Huge difference from 8* which were like missiles that would roll and roll.

Very interesting stick.

Well my SLDR arrived yesterday. It was an open boxer so $309 in mint condition, traded in a fairway, I have a room full, hybrid, and a set of irons and only took about $20 out of pocket so I'm happy.

Can't wait to hit it. It's a 12 I've got it set at neutral as a starting point, we shall see. Here's what's tough though, I'm going to be hitting range balls when I first head out. My guess is they spin way more off the driver than the balls I use. This is really and wait and see game.

I'm like you westy.......straight, short and bad back......went through the same process and #JETSPEED with shorter, heavier fairway wood shaft works for ME! Now now, short is comparative! Yeah alright I'm only a 240 yard man, mind you it's all carry....which is where I think I lose out most. Ok 240 in warm weather!

Interesting to hear how you get on at 45 inches, I think if I'm honest I grip down all my clubs a bit - probably an inch on the 3 wood. So I'd probably make the stock shaft more like 45.5

Hoping I can try a fair few shafts on Wednesday - will post flightscope numbers on my return.

I hit the range today with my new SLDR and my R11s. No launch monitor so I can only go my sight. I tried the SLDR at 12 one up and one down, weight one draw, neutral one fade. Regardless of the setting I was longer with the SLDR than the R11s. Lately I've been maxing out at around 240 but realistically I'm between 225 and 235. Around 210 carry plus the roll out.

I scoped everything so I had good targets to shoot at and a very clear line of sight to see the ball land and run out. There was a flag at 219 with a tree to the right at 249 and a pole to the left at 253. I hit several drives at 12 degrees that reached the flag and rolled out either to the tree or the pole depending upon the side I was aiming for. I believe that I hit everyone either right or left of the flag depending upon where I wanted it to go. I clearly was hitting the SLDR 15 yards farther than my current driver.

The one setting I didn't like was the up one. Too big a draw with a closed face. It was exacerbated by the wind to boot. It drew too much even at the fade setting.

I handled the llonger shaft fine. Just gripped down a bit. Guessing I was playing it at 45". It's going out on the course Tuesday so we will see.

Good luck Westy.

Turns out 46 inches may not be that big an issue, checked the specs and my 09 Burner is actually 46.25!

So I'm gripping down a tiny bit and still playing at best part of 46.

My clubhead speed when last on flightscope was a very consistent 93/94 mph, doubt it'll have changed much. If I drop shaft length will I lose clubhead speed?

That's wierd only because TMag measures its shafts differently and they are normally 1/8 to 1/4 shorter than published.  But that may be a recent change.

I have to say that I didn't have the problems that I thought I would with the longer shaft in the SLDR but couldn't find a way to hit the sweet spot with the Jetspeed - everything and I mean everything was in the heel with that club.

Funny thing.  TMaG releases.  Looking at the pure #'s, TMaG did not release the most products last year....

Rev, I've found that to neutralize this head, go one either direction and two the opposite direction with the weight. The hot spot setting seems to be one closed (higher loft) with the weight 2 clicks toward fade. I've gotten the best distance with it like that on the 460. I've only hit balls into the pasture behind my house this far with the 430.

And for those wondering, the 14* driver is now shipping

In The Bag
Driver: TaylorMade M2 (2017) w/ Project X T1100 HZRDUS Handcrafted 65x
Strong 3 wood: Taylormade M1 15* w/ ProjectX T1100 HZRDUS handcrafted 75x
3 Hybrid: Adams PRO 18* w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4 Hybrid: Adams PRO 20* (bent to 21*) w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4-AW: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black Onyx S400

SW: 56* Scratch Tour Dept(CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
LW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
XW: 64* Cally XForged Vintage w/ DG X100 8 iron tiger stepped
Putter: Nike Method Prototype 006 at 34"

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

Thanks I'll give it a try. My best setting so far has been totally neutral. I got a wow from my buddy who was with me. It really launched how and hopped like a rabbit when it hit the ground.

I'm playing with Toke tomorrow. That's always an adventure.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD
