Best of luck with the new position.  As someone that has the ability to fire people on the spot I can honestly say never have done it nor will I ever do it.  I prefer to hear the truth from the people that work for my company as they have a different view than I do and often times it is refreshing to hear their point of view.

I too have always enjoyed interviewing until this week......two straight days with the Nevada Gaming Commission and I am pretty sure an elective colonoscopy would have been more enjoyable.

Good Luck man!!  On the bright side,  you can dedicate some more time to hitting balls and playing for a bit.

My son is starting his new job in two weeks, and is done at the old job.  He's calling the gap "funemployment."  So far, it sounds like he's enjoying it.  Yesterday, he volunteered to get drunk for the Milwaukee police department so they had genuine subjects for live sobriety testing (hope they gave him a ride home).  Hopefully, Highfade can have a good, but short, Funemployment time as well.  Good luck!

I'm sure you'll get good news soon.  Seems like the old "CEO" (intentional use of quotes) was a douche, and you are better off not being with that company any more.

I'm catching up on schoolwork this week. (4 classes left for my degree).

But next week I'll have plenty of time for hitting balls and practicing. April 26 is my first golf channel tournament too. For a guy with no job, I'm pretty busy.

Sometimes things happen for a reason. I won't blather my religious beliefs, but you probably just figured out what I mean!

Cheers!

Ps, my brother is deep into network security for a big company. He tried to retire, and these guys hunted him down. The good ones are always needed.

One point I'd like to make, as someone who interviews tech job candidates frequently (network, systems, help desk, security, etc.), is that I am not really interested in whether the candidate has all the correct answers per se because it's almost impossible to find the perfect candidate. I'm gauging their reaction to the questions, seeing if they understand why the topic is interesting or important, and how they handle themselves when they don't know the answer.  Poise is key.  No B.S. an absolute.  One can handle a question to which they don't have an answer smoothly

No B.S. is an absolute gotta agree on that. Every spring season I have to interview drivers for the upcoming season and I have developed an eye for B.S. trust me. My basic turn off is when the candidate says " oh I know everything about the towing and trucking business" That is a certain turn off for me and I will not hire. I have been around trucks and wreckers most of my life and I certainly don't know it all I learn something every day.My best hire ever was a driver that could drive a truck had drove for 25 years but had never operated a wrecker or rollback but was willing to learn and had common practical since to work by his self and had good work ethics and if he got in a jam he would pick up the phone and call for help. Here in this transinent area you don't know what people will do they are here for a few weeks or so and then one shift they don't show for work no call or nothing

For you IT guys out there:

I have to vent about lame interview questions. These were two questions, with no other information given.

1. How would you shape traffic?

2. How do you affect traffic?

Getting tired of vague questions to which there is only one correct answer: theirs. There are 100 different answers to those vague ass questions.

I used to interview a lot, and the worst thing you could do is ask vague questions. You'll get vague answers. Very frustrating.

Good news: the one position I really want, the guy asked specific questions and was a good communicator. Bad communications skills are far too common in IT.

I know what the guy was going for - trying to see what you know about QoS, but if he's looking to start a conversation about classification, marking, policing, etc., there are so many better ways to do so.  I like to ask candidates to whiteboard networks they've designed or worked on.

You hit it on the head. But without any other info, they're just far too vague. Those were two questions from two different guys. The shaping question was looking for methods of traffic throttling, and the other was looking for bgp route selection. That's ok though. It makes it easier for me. I'm interviewing them too. There's nothing worse than getting the wrong job!
