upcoming trip to Portland, OR and Austin, TX

So I've got a trip coming up and I'll be in Portland on April 8th and 9th, followed by Austin the 10th, 11th, and 12th. I expect to have nothing going on, and I will be bringing my clubs. I can't keep track of who lives where in Texas, but I'd love to get in some good old MGS golf. Anyone out there think they might be able to find some time?

Haha, I'm at the mercy of those above my pay grade. At least I can expect plenty of golfing time and decent temperatures.

 

I don't remember where any of the Texas guys live, but if anyone is anywhere near Austin I'd like to arrange a round or two.

I live an hour north of Austin, Txstcatman lives in Austin and Hula lives in San Antonio. That would make for a fun foursome. The best date for me would be the 11th but I might be able to swing the 12th.

Try out Heron Lakes while in Portland. Play Big Blue, it's a fun course.

 

I'd be down for a round when you're in Austin. Just have to check my schedule but there's some great courses in the area to play.

Ok, sounds good. We'll be technically on a sort of soft alert, in case we have to fly, but in most cases on trips like this we never get the call, so I don't expect much to get in the way of some golf. I won't really know for sure until the night beforehand, but I'll assume that we aren't flying until told otherwise. Hopefully we can get a fourseome together!

I'll maybe know slightly more come this weekend, but I'm going to have to be playing it by ear because of the nature of the trip. I'll post back as soon as I know anything more concrete! I'm looking forward to golfing with some more MGSers!

Ok, after today it looks like there won't be much time in Portland for golf... Texas should be totally free though. As such, I'll reiterate that I'm going to be in Austin in the afternoon or evening of Thursday the 10th and leaving on Sunday the 13th. So who wants to do 18 or 36 holes on Friday and/or Saturday in or around Austin? I will have to share the rental car with two coworkers, so I don't think it would be fair for me to go too far, and if someone could pick me up, then that's even more ideal, but that's a more minor detail. I would love to pull together some good old MGS golf!

 

To get an idea of who to bug about this, send me a pm or reply!!!

 

I should add the disclaimer that there will still be the off chance of our aircraft being tasked, but I don't really expect it to happen. C'est la vie.

 

This would be a good time to start firming up plans, if there are any suggestions.

Final update...

 

Bad news. Because there's some huge moto gp race or something in Austin next week, we couldn't find room downtown in any hotels. As such, a majority of our crew chose to go to Phoenix and stay downtown instead of go to Austin and go to the motel 6 20 miles away from dt Austin.

 

This is a big bummer, because I don't think there are many active forum members in the Phoenix area. Now I guess this thread must become a "where should I golf in Phoenix?" thread.

Sorry to hear it Paul S! Fortunately Phoenix and AZ in general should have some great places to play. Check the PHX area on golfnow for highly rated courses.

 

On another note, Hula we should play Avery Ranch saturday haha. Wife is going to a bridal shower for a friend and i should have some time for a round.
