westy
Played yesterday and mind wasn't on the game (work etc) loads over par after 6. So I have a little chat with myself to try and get something respectable going. Par 5; ok drive and second shot leave me 70 yards to go. Didn't like the lie so I decided to pop it in short and let it run on to the green. Was worried about skinning it over green into pond. Hit it perfect, looked up in time to see it bounce 20 feet in the air off a sprinkler cover I hadn't seen, entered the pond behind the green quickly scaring a swan just behind the green. Shrug shoulders, should have checked my landing area etc etc. Take my drop; straight into a massive swan cr@p. local rule allows us to lift and clean, so walk round green again and clean ball (had to leave bag there because of hazard). Walk back in a mood because I'm holding my friends up - tread in swan cr@p and slide into hazard up to my ankles. I did not get up and down. My friends were still giggling 2 holes later, to be fair so was I. Later on I made the stupid (and actually it is stupid because we've all been beginners) of chuckling at a chap who hit a fence post 100 yards off the tee. Golf Khama got me though - my ball was last seen leaving the course on exactly the same line, his hit the post and ended up on the fairway. Still the cider in the clubhouse made it all better. Salmon
had something similar happen to me during a pennant match. Blocked the drive right which I thought was ok, hadn't played the course before and turned out to be a water hazard. Water hazard had effectively dried out with only a small section of water remaining at the other end some 60m away. Top of the soil looked like it had dried out similar to what you see in a salt lake bed, all cracked up and such. Was able to see a couple of balls sitting on the top and began to walk out and check them hoping one was mine. Made it about 10m from the edge and promptly sank to my knees in mud. Would have been stuck if my opponent hadn't rushed over to help pull me out lol. This all happened on the seconds hole of all places, managed to get the game all the way to the 17th though but sadly lost lol Quote Driver: Titleist 907 D2 7.5* Aldila VS Proto Shaft 65 X Fairway Woods: Titleist 980F 19* Pro Trajectory stock Titleist 4375 R shaft (desperately need to replace) Irons: Taylormade LT2's 3-PW S300 dynamic golds Sand Wedge: Vokey 56* 256 10 Oil can 8620 finish True temper shaft Lob Wedge: Shark 64* wedge True temper shaft Putter: Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 blade, 303 GSS Insert, 35'' 330g 4*L 71*L Ball: Pro VI

revkev
Swan song? Ok that has cheered me up! Glad I could oblige! BTW I just enrolled in a doctoral program - why? Because my son and I have a standing bet that the first one to a doctorate is to be taken by the other one to St Andrews for lodging, golf and beveridges - the winner buys the food and airfair. So at 57 and a half it's game on - and he is just finishing his bachelors. Bottom line we may need a guide to come with if I can complete this thing. Also, you should be thankful it's just swans. I received a very important phone call on the course this week that I had to take. As I wandered off towards the Mangroves where I wouldn't be disturbed the guys in my group started yelling at me - I looked down and directly in the Magroves about 15 feet away was a 6 foot rattle snake. I'm thinking that a little swan do do and a double are nothing compared to one of those bad boys. westy
Yep we don't really do dangerous reptiles in the UK! To cold all year round. Couple of small snakes and lizards, it always makes me laugh that our largest predator is the European badger - everything else (wolves, bears etc) all hunted to extinction hundreds of years ago. The scots want to reintroduce the wolves though..... You ever been bitten by a swan? Not nice! You get to the UK Rev and barring something strange happening I'll be honoured to shout you a single malt and translate what the locals are saying. As for a doctorate? I'm more likely to get my hairline back! So good luck to both of you. revkev
The doctorate is in lieu of the hairline or should I say in Lou? Of course my son is wrapping up his degree in nuclear engineering while I'm working on theology. Greek seems like nothing compared to thermo dynamics. Don't tell the kid though. wbealsd
You're never to old to learn, Rev. We've got a local course some swans hang out at, I'll agree they can be nasty creatures and some very nasty approach areas! BIG STU
Those swans can be ferocious. A friend of mine in Missouri used to raise black swans and those things are mean. If that had been me who fell I would have fell and rolled in the swan poop or either the swan would have gotten mad and attacked me Quote Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex---- 3 wood TM V-Steel Aldila 65G R Flex 15*--- 7 Wood TM V-Steel UST Pro Force 65 R flex 21*---- 9 wood TM V-Steel stock MAS Stiff shaft 24*--- Irons 4 thru 9 Mac Muirfield TT black label --- PW Vokey SM-4 51* stock shaft--- SW Vokey SM 5 L grind 58* stock shaft--- Putter -- Rusty Scotty Santa Fe fluted Bulls Eye shaft---.
