Adjustable driver setting

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

So last weekend I went to take a lesson... by chance TM had a demo day so I got to try the SLDR against my Fast 12 LS.

Long story short: numbers are similar, except LA.

My Fast 12 LS is 9.5* so the pro recommended I increase the loft.

So I used Adam's user manual to match the serial number on the hosel to the +1 setting and lock it back in place.

My question is: it seems like I just rotated the shaft 45*. How does this increase 1* loft? Should I rest the driver head on the ground before gripping? Couldn't I just leave it in standard setting and open the club face a little to increase loft? Or stronger/weaker grip?

Sorry for the n00bish question, first time tinkering with the driver :D

If it rotates the shaft only then you would need to set the driver on the ground before gripping in order to close the face and increase loft. I'm not 100% how the Adams settings work but that would be my guess. You could leave it standard but then each time you grip the club and rotate the face manually, it could be inconsistent.

The adapter doesn't hold the shaft parallel with the slot it fits into. When you set it to increase loft, it leans the shaft forward in relation to the head. Since we're only talking a degree or so, it's hard to visually see the difference. If you had the head clamped to a bench, you could see how the shaft angle changes in each setting. Increasing loft also closes the face and probably increases the lie angle a touch.

It does indeed:

+1 setting adds 1* of loft, 1* of lie and 1* closed

To the naked eye, it really looks I'm just rotation the shaft.

So I'll just ground the head and grip it normally and trust the setting is correct? :D

Thanks!

Yes that's exactly what you'll need to do.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD
