Nakashima Driver

BIG STU

Recommended Posts

I had a guy call me yesterday and said he had a bunch of clubs he would give me free if I brought my pickup truck over and get them all. Ok I will bite. Went over and there was quite a bit of stuff mostly junk but one thing stuck out a Nakashima H Tec driver 9.5*. He told me he paid a lot for it. It got my curiosity up and I checked out their website and did not really find out a lot. I was just curious of your guys opinion. It has a Pro Launch blue shaft but it is light as heck. I am wondering about putting a Pendley shaft in it I have had laying around for a couple of years. Did not know if it was worth messing with

My friend from junior tournaments had a nakashima because his teacher has a relationship with them. He is a very good player (probably anywhere from a 1-4 handicap) and he likes it a lot.

Like most other component-brand name - like SMT, Alpha, Bang, Nakashima really do offer excellent quality stuff. Among these brands, Alpha and Nakashima has always been the best quality I have seen. It their hay days, Nakashima had always been quite pricey compared to Bang and SMT golf.

Nowadays, nobody really want to play these golf clubs much. Not for want of quality or technology. But rather a TaylorMade or Callaway is about the same price as a fully assembled component club and has more brand recognition.

If ever there's a head to head test of these component clubs of yesteryears, I would not be too surprised that most / or all of them would perform just as well, if no nearly as well as the modern SLDR or whatever.

Now in my bag:

TM SLDR 10.5 Deg with Matrix Ozik 6Q3 S flex

TM VSteel 15 deg 3 wood

Cleveland Launcher Hybrid 18 deg Diamana Red Board Stiff

Titleist ZB Forged Iron 3-PW DG S200 Steel Shaft

Cleveland CG15 46, 52, 56, 60 Wedges

Thanks guys for the education. I may put my last remaining Penley Stilleto shaft in it. I have to agree with Hacker on the technology thing. Right now I am hitting a Hathaway V4 which is about 3 years old with a Creation shaft that is about a 4 year old design. Actually it is the best metal driver I have ever owned. I have went to some demos and have hit the SLDR and the newest Cally offerings and have not found any combo that I hit better than what I have. Prior to the Hathaway I hit an old Hogan CS-5 with a NVS 65 shaft in fact I still have that club and I think it is about a 8 year old design and I actually hit it better than any of the new offerings I have tried. I may play with the Naka driver for the heck of it. From what I have gathered they are mostly a West coast thing. I am not one to stand on ceromony if I can hit the darn thing I will play with it. I would not care if it was a Ram 420 from Wally World if i could hit it straight and reasonally long

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a Nakashima driver for a while that someone had given to me.  No idea on how much they run money-wise, but the quality was definitely good.
