Cigar in mouth while putting -- Training aid or not?

A buddy of mine looks at the hole while putting.  I tried this and can't do it, more power to Spieth if he can. 

 

I have to keep my head down all the way through the stroke and not peek at it until its well on my way.   So today I'm warming up with the Churchill in mouth on the practice green and I notice that if I have it straight down, pointing at the ball I can REALLY detect the slightest head movement cause I'm essentially staring down the barrel of a gun and can see the "front sight" wobble.  

 

Is this a training aid if I use it during a round?   Have others noticed this too?

I don't see how it would be classed as a training aid, and I doubt many people would argue it anyway.

 

Going on things that help me on the practise green I'm enjoying popping my bluetooth headphones on and zoning out to the music while trying to make a putt. Really goes into the whole clearing your mind and thinking of nothing but the target or nothing at all while trying to make a putt.

I'm pretty sure a cigarette in the mouth, during the swing, was Hogan's "secret."

No. I doubt it becomes a training aid until you put it down and align your feet to it.

 

Only thing I can think of is that if you light it for the sole purpose of judging the wind, you can get penalized for that... and for wasting a cigar.

I love cigars, but I can't putt with one in my mouth.

I like cigars, and look at the hole when I putt, and have tried to putt with a cigar, but when I bend down to look at the ball the smoke gets in my eyes and nose and makes me cough.  It is not much of an aid to me.

It is very good for judging the wind, I'll grant you that.

I smoke a cigar on the course but could never envision putting with one in my mouth - I'd inhale at the wrong time, I'd get smoke in my eyes at the wrong time, I'd drop it on my shoe and catch the thing on fire or on my ball and move it..........

 

Aghhhhhh why did you bring this up.

 

Anyway there's no way it would be considered an aid.

 

I also look at my intended line when I putt or at the hole whichever seems wisest so long as the putt is over 7 feet (my 50/50).

I can only smoke a cigar when I putt, I can't do it with any other stroke!
