I'm celebrating my 20th year in the ministry this year. The Congregation had a special service in my honor a month or so ago and it was great, full church, one of my closest friends from seminary as a guest preacher, children's choir from the school, brass, the whole nine yards. It was awesome.

 

Often there is some sort of significant gift but to me it was no big deal. We are involved in the building project and I'd prefer to see that type of money used for the building.

 

Well the gift arrived tonight in my driveway, a brand new van fully equipped with a power lift for my daughter (and my back). We had just started the process of looking for a van because she will be getting a power chair this coming spring.

 

I'm in shock and my wife hasn't stopped crying tears of joy. We took it out for a spin. The coolest feature is that there are several laces where my daughter's chair might be locked into place including the front passenger side. Guess where she wanted to sit! :)

I can't wait next week you will probably start having thread with one letter titles, or perhaps even number them.  You titles seem to getting shorter and shorter.  If you title one with a C or M or D or I or V would that be a letter or a number (Roman Numeral).

They did - who do you think voted for me in the MGS tour staff contest a few years ago!  The youth group was responsible for the signage on my van. 

 

They totally kept this a secret from me until lunch time yesterday.  My wife and I were actually seriously looking at a van that we were going to have converted (we found a grant to have the conversion done.)  I mentioned it at lunch earlier in the week and my associate pastor ratted me out.  One of the congregational leaders took me out for lunch and basically said, "Don't buy a van!"

 

The new one showed up in the driveway last night.  Way nicer than the one we were looking at buying.  The coolest feature is that my daughter has a choice of four places where she may sit.  Disabled people often don't have choices.  I'm very happy for her, my wife and my back!  Plus now we can use the money we had set aside for a van to remodel one of our bathrooms and make it accesible.

Thanks again guys. I signed the necessary paperwork yesterday and will take possession of the van this evening so that Kersti and Penny can drive it to church tomorrow. I also called good Will and donated our old van there. I've never been in that position before and I'm thankful that we could do it. It's a Mazda with 140K miles on it so there's still some meat left on that bone.
