mainuh
You never know whom you're going to meet at the Lumber Yard. I was standing at the counter this afternoon waiting to pay for a box of finish nails when I overheard a gentleman mention that he owned a putter company. My curiosity was piqued and I hurried my transaction so I could catch up with him in the parking lot. As he was about to open his car door I said – “excuse me, did I hear correctly inside that you own a putter company?†He turned to me and said, “ Yes…Heavy Putter†You could have knocked me over with a feather. He introduced himself - Steve Boccieri You can imagine that I had a million questions to ask him but what in the hell can you cover in a parking lot – A few hi-lights as I recall them – They did a fitting with Furyk… Convincing the Tour Pros that a putter can actually help them takes them out of their comfort zones even when the results speak for themselves. He mentioned Troy Matteson as one of their pros, Daly was even mentioned ! Players on the European Tour, none that I was familiar with… His putting studio has 5 SAM Labs. They are going to be introducing a new line of backweighted drivers and irons. He's very excited about their new wedge line – it will have the box grooves as he is taking advantage of the fact that this is the last year for that. I asked him if the wedges were similar to the Pelz in that the Pelz heads are supposed to be heavier. He is headed to Taiwan this week. He knows Ari ( I mentioned my Scratch wedge) and knows Tom Wishon. I closed it out so I didn't take any more of his time, gave him a business card and he gave me an invite to stop by the Studio to check out equipment, SAM, etc. Suffice to say I was driving on cloud nine as I drove back to my job – one helluva nice guy is Mr. Boccieri. Rob Ps - A few years ago my wife and I were in Savannah, Georgia when who should be walking towards us…Norm from This Old House. As a carpenter who has followed the program and respectful of his skills I was in awe that he stopped and spent some time on the street to speak to me. I was able to get a picture with him and he signed one of my business cards – I would have loved to have a pic. with Steve. I Can't Help It If I'm Lucky... JohnBarry
I thought you were going to say Danny Noonan when I read the title. Awesome story, and yes, I too would like to hear some more about the Heavy Wedges also! MmmmmmBuddy
Care to elaborate? -I never missed the line I was aiming at, but came up about 8-12 yards short of my expected distance. I could get used to being so straight, but I might need some different lofts.
