Are you a "club ho"?

I know we have some straight up "club ho's" here (cough - Rookie - cough), but how many of you are actually ho's? Do you buy out of impulse or necessity? I have a lot of stuff laying around, but it's because I never get rid of anything, not because I buy tons of stuff. When I find something that works, I use it until something superior comes or it breaks. Last season I had a glaring hole in my bag, I had a wide open gap from 235-270. 235 is what I carry a well struck 3i, which I rarely ever need. I did however need that when we (RoverRick, GS Theoo, and Mr BestGrips) met up to play Mirimichi last summer. There were two par 3s that were playing around 230ish with coming up short not an option. 230 is asking a lot of a 3i when you're not swinging it that well. On the flip side, I thought it would be a great idea to put a 14* Super Hybrid in the bag last year. It was great, I reached a 600yd par 5 from 290 out with it, but for the most part it was a 270-275 club. The problem is, when I had 240, I couldn't hit anything to it. If I had a 250 club, I'd be able to play it down to 235 and not have to stripe a 3i perfectly. So that is what I need for my bag, a 250 club, so that is what I'm going to get.......period.....all year. Sure, I want to try all the new stuff, but I'm most likely not going to buy anything So I definitely buy out of necessity. Why do you buy?

And for you ho's, put up some picks, so I can drool and be jealous.

I think it's a matter of Ho vs HOarder.  You sir, are a hoarder.  I myself am a Ho.  I tend to get rid of most of my older stuff vs having a huge stock pile in the garage.  That's not saying I don't have a few backup bags, but for the most part it's gone once I'm done with it.

Mostly I buy because I feel that whatever I'm getting will perform better than what I am using.  For me there needs to be a reasonable expectation of improved performance.  That or it's just something cool I really want to try out.  Or I'm drunk and shopping on the internet.  Or it's a day that ends in Y.  I may have a problem.

What I do with my clubs in the privacy of my own home is.... oh... you mean do I like to acquire more clubs than I need. Right. I get it. Ignore that first part.

Let's just say that I know I will become a club horse if I start even remotely down that path. It bears careful monitoring.

I ho, therefore I am....

Actually scaled down this winter -- sold off or traded in 3 sets of irons, some hybrids and the great wedge collection of 2013.  Down to 1 full set with a backup driver, 3 woods and 16* hybrid, plus a couple of backup putters and two utility irons - not sure about those yet.

Of course, I haven't been out shopping in a while, so it could all change...

I will admit I am a club HO but I am a little different from most of you guys. With the addition of my new conforming wedges my regular gamer bag is set unless something breaks. I am bad about hoeing antique and vintage clubs. I have quite a few that are of sentimental value to me and some clubs I have had since High School. I hardly get rid of anything. I go to the flea market and thrift stores regularly and buy old clubs. I think sometimes WTH? did I buy that for? A Wilson Staff 4300 persimmon driver for $2.99 heck I did not even like that thing when it was new in the 60s/70s. I guess I have to have them to keep them from being destroyed.

Not sure where I would fall on the spectrum.  I am a hoarder of putters since I never get rid of them and the few that I have parted with have had siblings make their way back to me.  When it comes to the rest of my bag I am not sure.  I have a few drivers, several three woods, a few hybrids and three sets of irons.  I do buy things on impulse as I see them but tend to get rid of them  if it does not work out, but I also buy things just because I like them as evidenced by the Mack Daddy 2 wedges I bought this past weekend to replace the MPT4s that worked perfectly fine.

Yes, I had to buy an old golf bag from Aunt Sally's to store them as the kid's bag (that place where unwanted clubs end up) is now full.

I am a sucker for those clubs in the demo or used clubs racks, that are "only" $40. Also I have used my limited club assembling skills to dabble with component stuff like Bang.  (I have made 2 Bang drivers, (1) Bang 3 wood, and Bang (1) hybrid and they have all been dumped into the Aunt Sally bag.)  It is also an excuse not go through a proper fitting since it's only a "demo" club.

Add up all of the costs for this stuff, 99% of which I will never use, and I could have bought something that I really want and need and that is a good fit for me.

Sometimes I feel dumb.

Respectfully,
DHUCK WHOOKER

I'm a proud ho who instantly sells off his losers.   I find that if I dump the losers quick I can recapture most of their value before they crash.   In 2014 I went through 3 Big Berthas, the G30, the Covert 2.0, and a second SLDR and all were out the door again within 3 weeks of purchase.   My plus/minus on the lot of them probably wasn't more than $50.    Had I waited 3 months, oooh I don't want to think of the losses.   I stopped ho-ing completely on wedges and putters though.    I guess I found the proverbial "good woman" who treats me right so I don't stray any more on them.

The only thing I tend to stock up on is shafts and tips.   I hold my favorites for the next generation, hoping they'll work.   Lately this has served me well.

I'm a hoarder. I have every clubs that I've bought except one driver that I used as a trade in. Now that I'm making my own clubs, I might very well turn into a ho because the cost is not so much of an issue, although, like Bones, I use something until it breaks, because it works.

By the MGS standards, I think I'm more hoarder than ho.  But it takes a lot of effort to stay at that level ;)

I seldom ever sell anything, but I've donated a lot of clubs to First Tee, Boys & Girls Club, friends, etc.

My goal is to get down to a gamer set and a backup set, but I still have some work to do, to get there.

Hahahaha... I just have to laugh... Because there's no real justifiable answer here from me... It's not limited to one category either... Clubs, bags (have like 6 trying to find the perfect one), gloves, tees, towels, divot tools, shafts, you name it.

LW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

Compared to many here I'm hardly a ho but more of a wanna be - Come on guys - we populate a website devoted to golf equipment - you know exactly what that makes all of us. :)

Having written that could we start a thread - club ho's anonymous?  I need to get off the ship for a while - my wife and I are making a conscious decision to downsize the household in anticipation of downsizing the house towards retirement -

So for me that means selling off clubs that I've been hoarding at about any price and also getting rid of my 18 inventory of 23 trumpets (seriously - I need to reduce that to 2 - my gamer and my D trumpet for whenever I might feel like playing the higher baroque stuff - I already got rid of my pic a long time ago - wish I still had that one - think Penny Lane.)

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Hi, my name is Graham and I have a problem...

I am definitely a bit of a club slut. I didn't used to be this way but hanging around you fellas in the forums has tainted me ;)

I mean to be more Ho than hoarder but I'm a bit of both currently as I haven't sold of any of my extras in some time. Currently have 4 drivers, 2 fairway woods, 2 hybrids, 3 sets of irons, 2 wedges, 4 single irons(1i 2i 4i 6i) an extra bag and 2 putters that I need to unload. This doesn't even count the countless shafts laying around. This may not compare to some of you, but for someone who had 1 set of clubs this time last year this is a ton to me. What have I become?!

Ah who am I kidding, I may buy something else before the end of the week... Ok night. Maybe only after I list something on the bay. I've got to start making deals with myself or something....

I didn't like it when I tried it either.

Did the head just feel dead and muted to you?   That's what it felt like to me.  I couldn't get it adjusted anywhere close to liking it either.  I set it as open as it'd go and still couldn't get along with it.  I did feel dirty though, like I was cheating on my LCG.  It may also have to do with what I had on as well.  I had on a compression shirt and a Nick Chubb jersey too so I may not have been as comfortable swinging it as I normally would either.

Were yalls numbers bad with it too or was it just the terrible feel and sound?

I think I'm just a golf deal Ho. It's cold and snowy up here right now. I spend my spare time driving around to different golf stores and check out all the trade-ins and past year apparel deals. In the past month I've bought a Driver, a Hybrid, 5 or so Hats, and a pair of shoes. All said and done though I think I'm in at under $150 and the clubs are 2014 model year. I can't pass up the deals. How does one pass up a pair of Puma Bio-Fusion Lites for $5.95 after discounts and coupons!!!????

I used to be a club ho but Ive slowed down.  I still look at used clubs on Ebay sometimes and like trying out new stuff but I dont pull the trigger on actually buying like I used to.

That's exactky how it felt. I was hitting ducks that fell out of the sky at 276. Thought maybe it was my swing, but was carrying the R15 296.

When I started playing golf 23 years ago, I could carry it 276 but it was 176 down range and 100 to the right.

I need to get rid of some stuff. I can make 3 complete sets of clubs, and still have some left over, and I am a shaft ho. That maybe did not come out right.  I have a lot of extra shafts. Sets of extra shafts. And I bought more this weekend.
