My Paderson Test Shaft has Arrived!

Recommended Posts

UPS just delivered an unexpected box from Paderson, containing a new, uncut, untipped K green shaft in S, ready for me to grip and tip.   Just like I requested.  But it came with no instructions or requirements for the testing.   Are there any?   Or is it just swing away and tell us what you think?

I have to say that they are better looking in person than in the photos.    They would look really sharp in a Nike Vapor driver.   Makes me wish I had a Vapor to test as well.

Since I've been testing the crap out of my two Rogues these past two weeks, I'm ready to go!   What kind of monitor should I use, Flightscope or GC2?   If we all use GC2's they'll eliminate environmental bias, don't you think?

I haven't been contacted at all yet, hopefully soon!

Best of luck with the testing!!

I did see in that Paderson pdf that went around that the shafts shouldn't be tip trimmed.  Yet most OEM's recommending tipping when installing their adapters.  So which recommendation do we go by?

I'll respect the manny's recommendation on this.  I specifically requested NO tip installed and uncut, 'cause I'll do it myself.   The rest of the guys may get theirs with tips and grips cut to their length.

BTW, I heard NOTHING from either Paderson or  MGS prior to the shaft showing up on my door, so don't be worried if you haven't heard.

How did you request untipped and uncut then?  Or pick a flex/weight/shaft?

I haven't heard a thing either -

I'd be totally lost if a shaft showed up unannounced.  I mean I'd figure out what to do but will certainly need help from the guys here.

Tour Exotics 3 wood is in the bag because we are allowed 14 clubs.  It's a great club for pulling balls out of the water or from bushes - you never want to put your hand into anything in Florida unless you are absolutely certain that it's safe.  There are rare wind conditions when I might hit it off the tee on a few holes that I play.

I'm glad we are seeing some movement on this, that is positive! I am in the same boat, nothing yet from Paderson. I assume they are just taking our SS and matching it to a shaft? I hope it shows up soon!

How can you do that? If I know something is coming, I check the front door 4 times a day until I get it.

I'm rarely at home man. Plus I moved into a New house last fall. I always come in through the garage so I never see my front door. Trust me I check tracking numbers every 30 min like an insane person but I'm generally at work from 9am until 730pm every day(m-f). Unless I'm out playing golf or competitive softball/baseball. If I know it's coming then it's different but I get a lot of stuff sent to work not my house. If it shows up at my house unexpectedly, I might not see it for a week +. If this is how it works though, paderson may turn me into a perinoid person who checks the door every 10 min.

Re my requests, I just told Bones or Dave in my follow up to have 'em send an uncut shaft as I prefer 'em a little long and I already have lots of Optiforce tips.

BTW, I got a nice follow up email from Jason at Paderson today that gave me a few instructions about light sanding tip prep with a big emphasis on DO NOT TIP CUT.   But no other requirements.  I'm going to cut it to the exact same length as my other three shafts, the preferred Fujikura Zcom TW74 in Regular and the Aldila Rogues Silver and Black 60's in Stiff.

Here's the way I test, fyi, don't feel compelled to do it this way.  In lieu of specific instructions to the contrary, I'll just do my regular thing.

I test over many sessions on the range and real courses over many weeks.   I test against a known control.  I like to hit real shots side by side with my gamer, because every day and every hole gives you new looks and new feelings.   I take copious notes as I go.  I'm only interested in real world results, I could care less what numbers a monitor spits out, but for this test I'll also go make peace with the rubes who run the one GC2 in town, watch them like hawks as they fiddle with the presets, and get the output data.   I'll probably do the monitor last.

I like to get used to a shaft first, without getting too critical to start, because I usually have to change my settings and swing several times to get a new club to behave.   Then once I think I know what it's going to do, I try to push it on the range and test it to see if I can survive it in real course conditions.   Some clubs that seemingly do well on the range, don't hold up on the course because of how I tend to fear them or favor them.

For example, the SLDR 12 with my favorite shaft produced reliable, if unspectacular draws.   Ho-hum on the range, but on the course I found I could sling it out there confidently starting right to left and never fear the right miss.  It would skip right on up most fairways to an acceptable spot.   Other shafts that I miss left and right with big curves get me nervous and I start to try to guide them.   That's usually disaster on the course, but worry free on the range.

Anyway, the ultimate important decision only comes after about 3 weeks, at least 36 real holes in, and after half a dozen range buckets.   During that time I might change my mind or learn new things until the dust finally settles and I'm pretty sure of what I saw.

Just an FYI...if you sign up for UPS my choice it will send you a text alert every time they have a package addressed to you with an expected delivery date and another text on the day it will be delivered.  There is also an app for that.  Fed ex has the same thing.
