HighFade
Please tell me I'm not alone... Weather finally got better, so I found myself at the range for lunch today. I've always considered myself a range rat - but maybe for different reasons now. I used to obsess over every detail of my swing. Now I just hit balls for relaxation therapy. No thinking, no bashing balls to reach the fence (never could anyway), just hitting the ball and scraping another. It has a calming effect on me. There is no spoon. Blade
I so miss doing that. Don't have a big enough piece of property up here or an indoor golf room anymore.
Kenny B
I'm not a range rat, but I do go occasionally. Like today. It was nice here this last weekend, so I played both Sat and Sun. It seems that I have a new swing flaw. So, since it rained most of the day today, I decided to go see if it was a one time thing or has the winter playing affected my warmer weather swing. Did OK, so it must have been because I was wearing less layers than my normal winter golf attire. When I got there, I got a "small" bucket (which is a large at most courses, about 80) at the same time another guy got the gigantic bucket, about 180. He finished before I did!! “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
SPY VIP GolfSpy Dave Posted February 10, 2015 SPY VIP Share Posted February 10, 2015 Love to hit balls on the range. Get there multiple times a week to work on my swing or just to demo stuff. jbil8802
I'm a range rat. When the weather is decent I'll hit roughly 500 balls 3-4 times a week. langesc88
I love hitting balls at the range. A couple of years ago I was hitting the range 5 days a week. Really improved my game. mr_divots
Not much of a range guy anymore. I tend to do short game stuff moreso. I save my body parts for playing out on the course. Pretty mangled from a car accident. And for the most part, learning new ways of thinking on the course has helped me more than any muscle memory. Most of it pertaining to commitment to the shot. I just need to climb into a practice bunker for a few hours and not come out until that is better! wbealsd
I'm definitely a range rat, and also find it extremely relaxing. Sometimes I use the time to work on something specific but mostly, I just enjoy the feeling of hitting golf balls and watching them fly What's In the Bag Driver - GBB Hybrids Halo XL Halo 18* & T-Rail 20* Irons T-Rail 2.0 Wedges 60* TS / SCOR 48* 53* 58* Putter Ball Bag Datrek DG Lite
hckymeyer
The only time I really hit the range is a little in the spring to get the juices flowing and then as a warm up before rounds. I just can't sit there and pound balls all day. If I have an hour and want to golf my course has a separate 3-hole loop I'll go on and practice. It's usually not too busy during the week and it's easier to sit at a certain yardage and hit into a green than guess where the range markers are at and where my ball landed. mr_divots
^^^ Love that 3 hole loop. Sometimes if its a nice day and the course was empty and got around quickly, I'll go extend the day a bit and play those holes. We've done that many many times, it's also a great place to finish off a round with a tie after 18. A couple times in our "drunken scramble" after league play we've used the loop to make new holes. Call it a par 5 and use the 3rd loop hole tee to the 9th green, makes for a very interesting approach shot having to carry the road and ditch but stay short of the water with the green sloping away from you. What, no shots from across the railroad tracks? Have never played in their severe/sublime, but have always wanted to tee off from #1 tee for the 10th hole. I swear you and I were staring at each other from adjacent fairways last time I was up there. Is your cart blue? You just described my practice course. I can go there after work before dark or late on Sat or Sun and go to just about any hole on the course and practice any type of shot I want. I have a bag of used balls that are the same as my gamers. Much better than the range. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

If you ever come for The British that's the way 10 is played. It's usually the 2nd week of Oct and they set the course up pretty hard. Speed up the greens with tough pin placements and we tee off from #1 on the 10th hole. The loop is marked as OB and if the wind is blowing in your face (which it usually is in fall) it can be damn hard to even make it to the 10th fairway. Mr_Theoo
I am, but I like to play around in the short game area if I'm by myself. Just trying out new ways to hit shots. Even though when I'm on the course I rarely use these shots it's still fun for me to think outside the box cause I'll never know when I need to hit a funky shot to get up and down. BIG STU
I never was a range rat much to my poor old Dad's disdain. I would rather play and if by myself and not holding anyone up hitting several shots from different angles. As far as practice like that I usually hit 25 balls or so to stay loose except for dialing in a new club or experimenting with one I have modified. Now chipping and putting I can do that all day. I would rather do as someone else said play 2 or 3 holes than belting balls on the range it does me more good Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. Kor.A.Door
I would like to spend more time at the range, but because I am choosing (at least for now) not to have back surgery, I can't spend a lot of time hitting balls, so I try to go once a week and only take short clubs, 9, pw,gw,sw. And then I chip and putt, taking big full swings stretches the back out nicely, but it also tends to Tighten up more quickly and then I am sore for the next day or two. So I have to be careful about taking full swings Lefties are always in their Right Mind
sp0rtsfan86
too expensive for me. If one range around here offered a hit all you want deal I'd be in, but generally a 5 dollar a bucket deal plus a round of golf around here gets expensive. Jmikecpa
Weather is so bad on Long Island that today I bought a membership to an indoor place that has GC2 so I can at least start dialing in my swing a bit. Hard to hit balls when the average temp is 9* with 30 mph wind gusts. Don't care if it is covered and heated....the weather is just rough here this winter.
